Today was the last show of the season for the Seacoast Show Series. We had a wonderful day! So many successes and goals met!!

Megan and Toby were Champion in Leadline and finished the season in 4th!

Olivia and Bob were Reserve Champion in the Open Walk Trot in her first Hunter/Jumper show!

Marissa rode her new horse in her first classes and won her ground pole class! Then she rode Toby to a Champion in the Beginner Equitation for the day and a Champion for year end! They also finished 6th in the Beginner Hunter division for year ends!

Emily and Peanut were Champion in the Modified Equitation and third for the Modified Hunters for year ends!

Katie was able to secure a Champion with E in the Open Equitation for year ends even though I was unable to truck him today due to hitch issues.

Everyone rode so well this season! You all work really hard and it shows. I am so proud of each of you and can not wait to see what next season will bring.

Thank you Seacoast Show Series for putting on a wonderful series! We appreciate all you do!

This group makes me so incredibly proud! We had a great day at the Belknap County 4H Qualifier, Horse Judging and Hippology! I love watching everyone work together, help each other and cheer each other on! Today there were a lot of first experiences that were met with open minds and determination. From finding out there was an equitation pattern 2 seconds before having to enter the ring, to trying horse judging and hippology for the first time these girls gave it there all! We had rain, clouds and a bit of cold (and some spicy horses because of it!) but we had fun with our horses and our friends anyway! Oh there may have been so silly rolling down the hill for fun too!!

My heart is full and I am so proud of each and everyone of you!!

Wonderful day full of smiles at Seacoast! So proud of these girls! New divisions, new goals, working hard and it shows!

Make that phone call.
Send that text.
Forgive that person.
Tell them you love them.
Or that you have missed them.
Let go of that grudge.
Show more kindness.
Don’t take any of it for granted.
Because tomorrow isn’t promised…
And make sure to hug your horses and your loved ones, because there is a family who is missing their daughter, a trainer who is missing a part of her soul and horses who are missing their person.

Thank your lesson horse

In this industry, we all too often see the average lesson horse viewed as lesser than or below other horses. Yet, they have the hardest job of any horse.

They do not complain when an unbalanced first time rider mounts for their lesson. They are a calming force for the most timid of riders, promising safety and security. They are patient and kind, allowing riders to grow and evolve in a safe space without fear of making mistakes.

They take the brunt of your “bad day” emotions, without complaint, even though the negative emotions should not be taken out on them in the first place. They would have every right to not perform or act out, yet they are gracious enough to be a shoulder to cry on.

They have the remarkable ability to sense your insecurities and needs, and provide you with the exact ride you need for the day. To teach the lessons you need in that moment, lessons you didn’t even know you needed to learn.

Even on the frustrating days, “when the lesson horse isn’t listening,” they don’t take your accusations to heart. They continue on with their masterful plans to instill humility, critical thinking, and grace in their partner - and you will finally understand that they’re always listening, and they’re always right.

And when you finally graduate to your own fancier horse, take a moment to think of all the lesson horses who brought you to this milestone. They gave you the knowledge, ability, and skill to be where you are right now. And they gave you their heart and soul in the process.

So next time you see a lesson horse, thank them. Give them a pat and a peppermint, a warm hug, and a promise to treat them with respect - for they are the backbone of this industry, and the foundation for all future equestrians.
