Cherry Licorice's surgery is today!
He's got a nasopharyngeal stenosis which needs surgical correction
This boy has had a long medical journey to get to this point, two cultures including one that was positive for MRSA and the outgrown positive for 2 other highly resistant bacteria, a respiratory pcr, 2 weeks hospitalization for an IV antibiotic, a CT scan, many different medications, and nothing has worked. The CT showed a stenosis which has brought us to this point.
His medical to date has been over $6000 and this surgery is about another $1500.
Plz make a donation to help us with his high medical costs.

Volume up!
Weâd like to re-introduce to you Cherry Licorice, a crazy sweet tuxedo boy we pulled from ACC last winter. When we pulled him, he had a kitty cold and our plan was to get him healthy, shower him in cuddles and love, and find him an awesome home.
Well we got the cuddles and love part handled but his health has been an ongoing struggle.
Shortly after he arrived, he was treated with common antibiotics (one at a time), clavamox, doxycycline, azithromycin, and it sadly did nothing to for him.
We had a nasal culture and a respiratory panel done. The culture was positive for MRSA, which is high on the list of antibiotic resistant bugs. A sensitivity panel to tell us which meds should work. Marbofloxacin was on the list and pretty safe, so that was the drug of choice.
No change at all.
A couple of months later we did another culture, the MRSA was gone but we now had two other bacteria, both classified as âresistantâ Stenotrophomonas Rhizophila and Meth-Resist Staph Pseudintermedius. Our vet chose Amikacin, which is a very strong and harsh IV antibiotic. CL was hospitalized for two weeks for treatment, and we ran bloodwork every 3 days to make sure his organs were doing ok. His organs were fine but no change to his breathing.
Next meds from the compound pharmacy, Linezolid and Chloramphenicol.
No. Change. At. All.
So, grasping at anything, we sent Mr. Licorice for a CT scan thinking maybe thereâs a polyp deep in there. No polyp was found but they did find a Nasopharyngeal Stenosis which would explain his terrible breathing! Essentially, this is a narrowing in his breathing apparatus causing him to struggle to breathe!
So to sum things up, weâre basically already in for nearly $6000 between the testing ($2,000 hospitalization ($3,300), and meds ($450), and CL has his surgery schedule this Friday to open up his airways so he will hopefully breath clearly going forward.
We really need your help for this guy, as we're not giving up!

Hello Friends,
Just a little update on Lotus, She left the hospital this weekend and is settling in very well in her foster home! Sheâs a skinny-minnie coming in at 5.5 lbs whereas a healthy weight for her is estimated to be about 10 lbs, so sheâs got a ways to go.
Sheâs eating well, purring, and looking eagerly to joining general population in her foster home, and she will, once her fecal test is back, likely tomorrow.
A gentle reminder, she is scheduled in early December (on a waitlist for sooner) for I-131 Radiation treatment which is the gold standard treatment for hyperthyroidism which is a cure and not a band aid! When you treat hyperthyroidism with medication only, the tumor which causes this condition continues to grow and the need for a higher and higher dose of meds happens, sometimes the condition can worsen so badly that itâs really difficult to even control with medication. Given that sheâs only 13 y/o, and we hope have many years ahead of her, we have opted to give her this gift of a cure!
Also, this deplorable rescue where she originated from, All Sentient Beings, who is now located in MA, has been trashing AdvoCat on social media. When they refused to help with Lotus, and we had words with them, they blocked AdvoCat and Janaâs personal account, and it empowered them to say horrible things about us, but of course, our wonderful supporters were looking out for us and let us know. Truly the actions of a coward and a keyboard warrior, but more importantly, they wanted NOTHING to do with Lotus now that she needed help. Didnât want her back, didnât want to contribute. She was told her rescue was âsh*ttyâ (which it is) and now the leader of that rescue is playing the victim, trying to make it all about her rather than all about Lotus. Very sad excuse for a rescue.
Anyhoo, we need your help in order to pay for Lotusâ ongoing and upcoming medical expenses.
With periodic/ongoing bloodwork, vet visits, medications, and the cost of I-
UPDATE: Lotus is very sick and our vet recommended her being hospitalized, we of course agreed. She's got a high fever and is dehydrated. She's currently on supportive care. Bloodwork is pending and tomorrow we will discuss next steps as far as what tests will be run next. We'll also be setting up a fundraiser for her once we have a better idea what's to come.
Those who are coming here to comment from the ASB page please do not. You're comments will be deleted and you will be banned. The facts are, this rescue never once asked about the condition of Lotus and only wanted to explain why they wouldn't take their cat back. Didn't offer help or express concern that their former cat was abandoned on the streets, literally tossed out like garbage.
Today our amazing volunteer Jennie was contacted by someone who witnessed a car pulling up and unloading a cat and driving away. She immediately took action and went to retrieve this way too skinny girl from hiding in the bushes and rushed her over to our vet to scan for a microchip.
Well we found out that this friendly but emaciated girl was 13 years old and registered to All Sentient Beings Rescue in Massachusetts, who has blocked us to prevent being tagged.. We reached out to let them know and upon hearing the age of the cat immediately said it's illegal for them to take the cat as they moved to Massachusetts and they cannot import a cat. The MA law requires a 48 hour isolation and a health certificate, that's all, nothing crazy, nothing difficult. She claimed the laws were so impossible that they are not able to bring in an animal from another state. Never once asked about the condition of the cat (emaciated) or anything else. Never offered to help us with medical for her, just immediate did not want anything to do with the cat nor did they want any info.
Harsh words went back and forth and the director of this rescue then posted screen shots on her personal page that show her in a good way and an AdvoCat teammember in
