FOCUS PELHAM I-BRIDE BIT 🐎

To find out more about the effects of buckles, every month we'll be focusing on all the buckles in the I-BRIDE range. This focus is about Pelham buckles. 🔎

The Pelham bit has a lowering effect thanks to the curb chain which rests on the mandibular bone and nerve. This action is very strong for the horse, so it is essential to adjust the curb chain properly 👍🏻 in order to have a lowering effect but above all "comfortable" for the horse. 🐎

Thanks to a cushioning and flexible mouthpiece, Pelham I-BRIDE bits will provide a great deal of comfort for the horse to better accept contact. 🚀

The tongue is one of the most sensitive intra-oral areas. 👅

It is considered both a muscle and an organ. It extends from its visible tip (apex) to its multiple attachments back near the TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint). 💡

The tongue is one of the areas most prone to injury, hence the importance of taking this sensitivity into consideration. The use of an unsuitable bit on the tongue will cause pressure, pinching or even burning, resulting in discomfort and pain for the horse. 🥴

🔴 This discomfort will cause: poor rider/horse communication, tension, stiffness and restrictions of movement throughout the horse's locomotion.

Teeth wear as a result of repetitive movements when grinding food. 🦷

A horse's teeth regularly wear down by around 2 to 4 mm 📏 a year due to their fibrous and abrasive diet.

So to compensate for this wear, teeth grow in the oral cavity. This is called “eruption” and occurs at the same rate as wear, so the same amount of tooth remains visible in the horse's oral sphere. 👍🏻

As the upper arch is wider than the lower arch, enamel points outwards at the top and inwards at the bottom. The sensitive and delicate area on which the embouchure is positioned is called the bars and are also wider at the top than at the bottom. 🔎

It's by studying all the anatomical particularities of the equine mouth that I-Bride creates and develops mouthpieces adapted to the morphology and sensitivity of each horse to make information clearer and more adapted🌟

FOCUS ON THE FULL CHEEK I-BRIDE BIT 🐎

This month we'll be talking about the full cheek branches and the effects of this bit on your horse. 🔎

The full cheek branches allow better channelling of the horse thanks to the needles on either side of the mouthpiece which frames the horse's mouth. The weight of the buckles allows the horse to come through the bit better 🐴

Full cheek bits are therefore used a lot with young horses to have better direction and more precise framing. 👍🏻

The buccal composition of a female and a male is different. 🦷

Horses have 12 incisors, 2 wolf or pig teeth, 12 premolars and 12 molars. 👍🏻

The difference 👀 between the mare and the male will be on the canines. Indeed a male will have 4 canines that the female will not have, however these canines can be absent in some males called scales and present in some females called brehaignes. 🐴

To know 💡 : The bit will be located at the mandibular and maxillary bars, between the incisors and the first premolars.

FOCUS ON THE I-BRIDE D-RINGS BIT 🐎

This month we'll be talking about the verdun bit and the effects of this bit on your horse. 🔎

Verdun rings are D-shaped to frame the horse, and are often recommended to better channel young horses. 👍🏻

The rings are fixed and do not slide on the mouthpiece, so they transmit information from the rider's hand more quickly while limiting interference. 💡

On the other hand, care must be taken to ensure that the buckles fit snugly as they can pinch the cheek against the horse's teeth. 🥴

This buckle system combined with cushioning and flexibility adapted to your riding, will provide your horse with comfort while optimising the control of your hands ✋️
