Rescue an Animal Australia helps you look for the right pet for you, Australia wide. We support small no-kill shelters that have very limited room and foster carers but try their best to save every animal. We do not only deal with cats and dogs but will help you find horses, cattle,

rodents, and other pets. If you need help looking for your new best friend message or post to the page what you're looking for and how far you're willing to go to transport/pick-up a new friend and we'll try our hardest to find them. We currently do not accept donations but we encourage you to donate to your local animal rescue organisation. 😸 ADOPT MEOW 😸

CeCe checks all the boxes – cute, cuddly and full of character! This furry bundle of joy is a supreme smooch who especially enjoys napping on the nearest lap and is looking forward to sharing countless cuddles on the couch with you. CeCe came into our care with severe eye issues which showed little improvement even after extensive health checks, medications, and treatment. Our vets decided to perform surgery to remove both her eyes to ease her discomfort. This beautiful brave girl has healed wonderfully, she isn’t about to let anything get in the way of a good time and remained her bubbly playful self throughout her recovery. For CeCe’s benefit sticking to a consistent routine is important and she’ll also need a little extra encouragement while she’s settling in and finding her way around her new home. This fun-loving kitty would also appreciate a big stack of toys, especially squeaky ones and jingly balls, any that make a noise will keep her excited and entertained. CeCe is looking for a strictly indoor-only forever home where she can safely zoom about and be the centre of attention, no other feline friends please. This little house panther can’t wait to be living a charmed life with you!

Age: 7 months (est)
Reason for surrender: CeCe came to Cat Protection as a friendly stray via a pound facility.
Rehoming Organisation Number: R251000224

Hi everyone

Update post

Firstly I wanted to acknowledge our amazing followers, sponsors and donors who have been with us over the last decade. Without you we would have never helped as many shepherds as we have.

We are currently a very small team of volunteers (an extremely small team). Most of our volunteers have moved interstate or to another country or moved to a different phase in their life. At the current time we have less capable foster homes then ever before and the applications we do get are unable to be facilitated. We try very hard to explain that shepherds of unknown origins can kill and maim small fluffies such as rabbits, chickens, guineas and cats etc. We will never knowingly place dogs in a position to fail or to cause harm to your current family members. (to many commenters chargrin that we won't give them a shepherd with multiple fluffies)

This brings me to my next point. With next to no suitable foster homes currently it means our intake priorities remain with seniors, medical/ortho care and very young dogs who are vulnerable in the system.

We are currently receiving up to 20 surrenders forms every single day. We are receiving more surrender forms then adoption forms!! I'm hoping that sentence will sink in to some who think we aren't doing enough. Our applications for dogs has dwindled to less then a dozen applicants for puppies and a very small few for older dogs.

We've never been in such a position before, and like most rescues I don't know how we fix it. Our looming economic crisis, our lack of housing, our lack of income to provide care for dogs that are out in the community as well as meet the family needs, homelessness on the increase, unemployment on the rise.... I could go on but I won't. Our furry friends are receiving the brunt of the unstable system we all find ourselves in. It breaks my heart and makes us feel worthless at our inability to help more then we do. We will still be there for the complex care ones that need that little bit of expertise that we offer. The old and the sick that need financial support and a soft, caring, experienced home to rest and recover. The young and the old we will squeeze in whenever we can.

We unfortunately are unable to take into care all the generalized rehomings for the variety of reasons they're wanting to surrender. Our services are to be dedicated back to those that really need us. Hopefully our donors and ongoing supporters as well as care homes/volunteers who have helped us through will continue to help us through the toughest time in rescue in the last decade.

We will continue to offer assisted rehoming services, desexing last litter services, domestic violence services, lower socio economic subsidized desexing, palliative care and medical intakes. All other applicants wanting to surrender dogs will be referred off to other organizations who can offer quick intake and rehoming.

Hopefully all our loving supporters will stay with us and understand however if our supporters move over to larger organisations we understand completely.

If you need to surrender your dog here are some suggestions.
1. I highly urge you to reconsider your reasons for surrendering
2. If it is a necessity contact rescue early enough for them to help you not 2 days before you threaten to put your furry friend down.
3. Ensure your dog is not going to be used by a BYB system and desex before rehoming.
4. Make sure you have done the work to set up your dog for a new home. Dumping isn't fixing your dogs behavioural problems it will 100% make them worse and if they end up in the pound that is a death sentence for a shepherd.
5. If you need to contact us urgently there are links on our website to show the services we provide. We are answering emails most of the time through the week.
6. At this stage the only service we offer healthy normal animals is assisted rehoming if you're looking for a quick dump and run we are not the rescue service for you.

If you want to adopt a dog
1. Talk to all family members and members in the home. We are so tired of going through the applicants and interviews and meeting the dog only to be told husband/wife hasn't been told yet and they then don't agree to a new pet.
2. Ensure you're set up to bring a new dog into your home!.
3. A dog is for life not when life is convenient to you. A shepherd especially bonds hard to their family don't break their spirit because you've got a holiday planned or a hiccup in your life plans. Make sure to have backup plans for your companion.
4. Our shepherds are indoor /outdoor dogs they're not garden gnomes to be left aside out the back. We take pride in selecting the right home for a shepherd that receives our care we won't be homing them to just anyone.

I think that's the end of the rant. If you've followed to the end thank you, it's now time for a cup of tea and to hold my 5 shepherds here ❤️🍵

Thank you to those who are amazing and help keep shepherds in the right homes we love you all.

🌟 SONAR ONE YEAR IN CARE 🌟

It's been one full year since Sonar, a little Koolie X, joined our rescue. While her sister Radar found her forever home rather quickly, Sonar is still on her journey to find hers. What makes Sonar special? She's delightfully quirky, requiring a home that appreciates and nurtures her distinct personality.

🐾 Blind but Happy 🐾

Born blind and having her eyes remove once in care, Sonar doesn't let that dampen her spirits. She's a lively, joyful dog who adores playing with her furry friends and exploring with her exceptional senses. Adapting to new environments and people, particularly men, can be a challenge for her, requiring patience and understanding.

🏡 Seeking the Perfect Home 🏡

The ideal home for Sonar is a peaceful, child-free environment with a loving and patient owner, ideally a single woman or a couple. An older yet playful dog companion would be a great support for her, helping her feel secure and loved. A safe space for her to roam and play is essential for her wellbeing.

🐶 Understanding Sonar's Unique Needs 🐶

Sonar may not be overly affectionate, but she cherishes quiet cuddle time in the evenings. She is cautious with new sounds and not a fan of vacuums or baths, yet she's a gentle soul who enjoys the company of other dogs, including her current senior canine friend.

🏠 Adopt Sonar: A Special Pup Awaiting Her Forever Home 🏠

If your home is a haven of tranquility and you're ready to open your heart to a special dog like Sonar, please contact us. Together, let's find her the loving forever home she deserves.

17/08/2023

It has come to our attention that there is a new page going around following rescues then accusing hard working volunteers that they don't care about the animals and its all about profit. This is highly upsetting to all members of animal rescues who most donate their time and their own money to rescue thousands of animals every year. So I want to make it very clear what this page is claiming and the actual facts of animal rescues.

1. If its not about the money why don't rescues give away pets for free?
There are several reasons for this, the main being rescuing animals is expensive. A lot of animals end up in rescues in poor conditions that require a lot of vet work, specialized food and professional training. These things aren't free or cheap. The adoption fee pays for vet bills, food bills, training professionals, etc. In the off chance the animal rescued was in good conditioned and needed very little vet care, etc. the money goes towards rescuing the next animal that isn't always so lucky.

2. Non-profit vs charity
Most rescues are registered as non-profit and this literally means by law the rescue cannot profit in any way. Does this mean there are some "rescues" posing as non-profits to make a profit? Unfortunately yes, but as in anything there are always a small group of people doing the wrong thing to ruin it for those who do the right thing. Now charities are different from non-profits, why? Because they usually get government aid, have paid employees and can legally earn a profit. The RSPCA is such a charity, the small volunteered run animal rescue in your area does not get government aid, earn profits or have a large group of paid employees (most rescues have no paid employees).

3. Rescues should be monitered more closely.
We 100% agree! Working with several rescues around Australia we've heard some horror stories of people claiming to be rescues that do not care about the welfare of the animals at all! Anyone can apply to become a non-profit organisation and as long as your finances look like you aren't making a profit, there is no monitering of any other aspects of the organisation.

So please do your research before accusing hard working volunteers that they don't care about the animals they are rescuing, unless you've volunteered your own time to help an animal rescue you have no idea the amount of blood, sweat and tears our amazing volunteers have put into rescuing and caring for animals others have dumped or forgotten about.

If you have any other question please don't be afraid to ask us here or PM us!

🔸🔹DIRECT REHOMING🔹🔸

Located Gunning, NSW

Hi Family,
We’ve been asked to help find these two sweethearts a forever home. All of the information we have is below. If you have any questions or would like to offer them a loving home, please message us for their owners contact details.

💜🙏🏼💜

🔹 Trevor - Pinto

Trevor, 18yr old, 15.2hh, station bred, gelding. Trev has a lovely temperament. He's been a successful RDA horse for the last 3yrs and a lovely ridden horse before that. He has an unfortunate soundness issue that prevents him from full work, but with an experienced leader, he is an excellent led line horse.
He is very easy to have around, gets along well in the herd, is easy to handle, and is a good doer.

Being rehomed on a lifetime lease contract.

🔹 Kiki - Bay

Kiki is an aged mystery gelding who has clearly experienced a lot in life. He was sent to me as a 7yr old Anglo-Arabian who had been broken in but was bucking.
It didn't take long to establish that he is closer to 27 years old. He was clearly treated roughly recently but has settled in with some gentle care and has shown he was likely loved and well trained at some point. I tried hunting down his brand or a microchip, but no luck, so I'm hoping to find him a soft landing for retirement.

Being rehomed on a lifetime lease contract.

Deaf people and deaf dogs share a special bond that goes beyond just a love for each other. Deaf dogs, like their owners, rely on non-verbal communication such as sign language, hand gestures, and body language. This can make for a very strong and unique bond between the two.

Deaf dogs are not uncommon, but they do face some challenges when it comes to finding a home. Many end up in shelters or euthanised because people don't understand their needs or are unable to accommodate them. However, deaf dogs can make wonderful pets for the right person.

For deaf people, having a deaf dog can be a source of comfort and companionship. They understand each other's needs and can communicate in a way that others may not understand.

Deaf dogs are lucky to find homes with deaf people who understand and appreciate their unique abilities and challenges. With proper training and care, they can make wonderful companions and enrich the lives of their owners in many ways.

Meet Jo our VIC Coordinator, and her deaf dog Willow. If you have attended one of our events, chances are you have already met them. Jo is not only passionate about supporting the deaf community and Hear No Evil, but she also shares a strong bond with her furry companion, Willow.

Both Jo and Willow are deaf, which means they communicate through sign language. They share a unique understanding of each other's needs and have a close-knit relationship that is built on trust and affection. Jo adopted Willow as a puppy, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Willow is not a service dog, but she does provide Jo with emotional support and companionship. Willow is trained and well-behaved, which allows her to accompany Jo to events. They make a great team and are a wonderful example of the bond that can be formed between a deaf person and a deaf dog.

The special bond between Jo and Willow is a reminder that deaf dogs are just as capable of bringing us joy and companionship as any other dog! We are so lucky to have them in our community and thankful for their contribution to our activities. 💗

28/05/2023

An increase of dogs being dumped at pounds and rescues is usually for one reason, people thinking dogs will just behave how they want them with no training and no mental stimulation.

The minute you decide you want a dog you need to know how much time you have to dedicate to training it the minute it walks through your door. If you don't have 10-20 mins a day (yes thats all it takes) you don't have time for a dog. If you know you'll be away from your dog for large amounts of time you need to plan walks before and/or after and plenty of toys and puzzles to keep your dog stimulated while you're away. This will stop any destructive behaviour and bored barking.

Just remember every dog is different, something that might work for one may not work for another and different breeds need different types of training and levels of mental stimulation.

We have a sad story to share with you today. A couple of days ago, we received a call from a local vet about a six-month-old puppy who was hit by a car and left with a broken leg. The worst part? Her owner after numerous phone calls from the vet clinic didn't even bother to respond, so she was deemed to be a stray.😞

At Hear No Evil, we knew we couldn't stand by and do nothing. The alternative wasn't worth thinking about. We immediately said we would take her into care and be responsible for her medical expenses. The vet clinic were awesome in giving us a discount but we still have a bill of around $1500 to cover her surgery cost plus her ongoing rehabilitation. This is where we need your help.🙏

With your support, we can give this sweet girl we named Clover🍀, a second chance at a happy and healthy life. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a huge difference in her life. We'll keep you updated on her progress and let you know when she finds her loving, forever home.💕

Please share this post with your friends and family and help us spread the word. Let's make a difference in the life of this gorgeous girl who deserves nothing but love and care. Thank you for your support.💛
