Another trip out and another new place to explore.

05/12/2023

Today I worked with all the Males individually. Iggy was a star in a room he has never been in before.
I let them express themselves as some want to give interact with me straight away when in possession and others want take themselves off. I make mental notes and try and cater each play stage to each pup.

Yesterday we headed out to our favourite feed merchants TFM Country Store - Whisby to play.

Scarlett had a trip out to work on her delayed retrieving and air scenting for her kong at a friends private woodland. She worked around strange men ( and I mean strange ) she played and competed with dogs she’s never met before and her hunt drive was awoken. 10/10 today for her.

Dogs used during WWI included Border Collies, Lurchers, English Sheepdogs, Retrievers and mongrels. The Airedale Terrier was probably the most common breed used by the British in World War One though. The Red Cross also commonly used them to find wounded soldiers.
It has been estimated that eight million horses and one million dogs died during the First World War.

New girl Scarlett first 24hrs and she has settled living in with Hattie for company and a bit of support after changing circumstance.
We look at drive suitability constantly but sometimes I think in the working dog sphere we forget about the emotional frame work, fear periods 1st and 2nd the hormones that are developing and the upheaval leaving where they are so content can do to them and a bit patience can do wonders.

Getting feeding right for pups can be a mine field. Ida is busy bee and sometimes I can’t work out if playing is more important than eating. So we did choice test and offered her choice of Royal canin which the rest are eating or CSJ cp30 salmon. Well she made her choice and I now the rest of litter can stay on the RC and she can have the Cp30 mix

Eire and Solo on a Police Scotland NCTAS ( explosives) exercise.
The Prestige training DNA came apparent when Solo’s handler was watching Eire work he approached her handler with lots complimentary feed back about her ethic and intensity to search and she reminds him of his own dog.
He asked her where did she come from and the 💡 moment happened that they were both related and from Prestige Search Dogs - PSD training program as puppy’s.

The Moral of the story is if you stick to your beliefs in training and development and you carefully select when each dogs ready to go and to what job the dogs do all the talking for you.

Throw back Thursday. The first 3 months of my trainers course in 2011 was the detection phase with Vinny (spaniel) and Sam(lab). Sam was partially trained dog and Vinny was a blank canvass from the trialing scene. We would train Bricks for indication in the Morning and pattern of search in the afternoon using Kong till 2/3 weeks before the end where we imprinted on Explosives and introduced larger venues.
Sam went to the Olympics and carried on his carrier and retired with his handler.
Vinnie was meant to go to the Olympics but was chosen to go to Afghanistan instead where he retired at the end of his career with his handlers family

Training today with Tucker and then we went down the train station for a bit.

Throw back Thursdays. 2 of the 4 dogs from trainers course back in 2011. The best thing about the course was the freedom to train with ideas of your own to get to the end product rather than painting by numbers with someone manipulating things and you don’t develop. I took my HASD back ground and trained them to do property ( finding lost/discarded items with human scent on ) using the bricks focusing on 5p pieces and cut up bits of T shirt. In turn this complemented them as awesome pursuit trackers really accurate but would go at hot pace to get to end as they rather enjoyed the confrontation side of things as well 🦈
