Hard corals types and difference:

LPS - These are large polyps stone corals: Frogspawn, Trumpets, Torch, Hammers, Frogs, Plates, Brains, Blastomussa, Acanthastrea, Flavia's, Bubbles, etc…

SPS - These are small polyps stone corals: Acroporas, Montiporas, Polichoporas, Seriatopora, etc...

All of them require a different treatment, however it is possible to adapt them all in a single large aquarium keeping enough distance so that there is not a chemical war between them.
LPS corals are easier to grow than SPS as they are more resistant to changes in temperature and water quality. SPS corals, on the other hand, require stable water quality, which involves good filtration, good skimmer performance and often higher light and flow.
LPS corals can be placed at the bottom of the aquarium where most of the times flow and light are moderate.
Because they have sweepers is best to keep them in a safe distance from other corals.
In a mixed reef sps are usually on the top part of the aquarium where flow and light are usually higher.

"Coral reefs are being boiled alive." That statement, made by Gabriel Grimsditch, a member of the marine ecosystems division of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), activated the warning signals. Prospects for corals are not very optimistic: scientists estimate that nearly 90% of these superecosystems could be extinct by 2050.
These ecosystems are as rich in biodiversity as they are sensitive to changes in water temperature. Warming and acidifying the oceans causes corals to turn opaque, a reaction known as bleaching that decreases their reproductive capacity and can even kill them.
Gabriel Grimsditch points out that we can still do many things to conserve these ecosystems, such as:

• Adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce our CO2 emissions.

• Participate in conservation projects and make friends and family aware of this problem.

• Go to dive centers that are endorsed by the Green Fins initiative – if we dive on a reef, we can't touch, step on or pick up a small piece of coral – and never acquire memories made with them.

For those of you who want a very different fish in your saltwater tank, we recommend the Pajama Cardinal, it has many little balls on its silver body, it really looks like it's in pajamas.

This little animal is not only interesting, it is calm, it can be placed with other corals, it even loves to hide among them during the day, they are peaceful and hierarchical fish, so avoid aggressive fish with them, as they even respect the larger ones accept feed and is easy to reproduce.

It is a small fish that lives for more than 6 years and the adult can reach up to 9 centimeters in length.

Something interesting in their reproduction is that the male keeps the eggs in the mouth after fertilization and does not feed until hatching, which can take up to 4 weeks, while the female is responsible for the safety of the place, keeping away any predators, when the fingerlings are released they will seek shelter in anemones and feed on zooplankton microorganisms.

Well, he is a very adaptable and peaceful little fish, for those who want to start with the little fish for marine aquariums he is a great option.

In the marine aquarium the parameters must remain stable and big fluctuations should be avoided.
Salinity which is the density of water must be kept between 1024 and 1026 (34-35ppm), to us the ideal is always 1026 or 35 ppm.

Temperature is another very important factor that cannot have abrupt changes but hobbyist have been keeping their aquariums between 73 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit here we keep our tanks at 78F.

For more tips such as the amount of calcium, magnesium and others, follow our parameter table to help you with your marine aquarium.

Aquarists do not forget that it is not only water parameters that must be observed, lighting, internal water movement and filtration are also strong competitors for the success of the aquarium.

If, in real life, a family of clownfish were attacked by a predator that devours the matriarch, as the film recounts, the most likely fate of Nemo's father would be to become a female.

Clownfish are hermaphrodites, that is, they are born with testicular and ovarian tissue. What determines which s*x will prevail are social and demographic stimuli, such as the number of males and females in the school, as well as age.

So possibly Nemo's father would become a female for breeding, the worst (don't tell the kids this part): it's quite possible that this new female would mate with the offspring.

Sun corals of the Genus Tubastraea get their name from their bright yellow coloration and sun-like appearance of each polyp. Despite their bright sunny name, these corals are non-photosynthetic which means they do not get any energy from the light. In fact, they are probably the most well-known non-photosynthetic coral in the hobby. Their popularity is rooted both in their beautiful appearance as well as the challenge to keep them alive and thriving.

Name: Sun Coral

Type: Tubastraea

Flow: Tubastraea are not reliant on strong flow and in fact, lower flow is helpful during feeding to give the sun corals an opportunity to catch the food out of the water column. One trick we can give you is to take old algae magnet scrubbers and glue the colony onto the wet side magnet and then place it under the engine head. You can also do this with magnetic frag racks.

Light Intensity: As mentioned above, Tubastraea is not photosynthetic. As Tubastraea are not photosynthetic, they can theoretically be kept in an unlit aquarium. Generally we would keep them below 75 PAR for safety.

75% of corals reefs are threatened with extinction, because of human influence.

The main problem is the increase in temperature and acidification of the oceans, caused by the greenhouse effect. With this phenomenon, the percentage of carbon dioxide concentrated in the water rises, which causes coral bleaching. Bleaching occurs when corals flush out algae located on their bodies called zooxanthellae leaving them without their primary food base for photosynthetic corals.

Other agents contributing to the extinction of reefs are overfishing, water pollution and coastal development. If the scenario does not change quickly, the percentage of reefs in danger would reached 90% in 2013 and almost 100% in 2050. According to the research Reefs at Risk Revisited, which included 25 environmental organizations, the countries with the highest risk are Haiti , Grenada and the Philippines.

Currently, reefs cover 0.2% of the oceans and concentrate 25% of marine species, including corals, fish and algae. Its extinction threat can have a great impact on marine biodiversity, disrupting the food chain and harming a large part of the fauna and flora of the seas.
Among the recommendations made by experts is the creation of marine protection areas, as only 6% of corals are located in efficiently managed zones. Coral reefs protect about 150 km of coastlines in 100 countries, in regions that total more than 275 million inhabitants.

Mushrooms from the genus Ricordea are a highly desirable corallimorph in the reef aquarium hobby due to their unique bubble-like appearance. There are two species of Ricordea mushrooms, Ricordea florida and Ricordea yuma.

Name: Ricordea Mushroom

Flow: Low to medium flow would be best for Ricordea.

Light Intensity: Medium to high light due to normally growing in shallow waters where they are exposed to more light in the wild.

15/07/2021

Acclimatization of newly arrived Corals is extremely important, considering the amount of stress this animal suffered before arriving at your home.

Today we brought you some tips to get your new Coral successfully acclimated .

1- Turn off the aquarium lights or reduce their intensity: Your Coral was in total darkness for the last day, and does not immediately adapt to the light in your aquarium, doing this procedure removes a possible source of stress for the newcomer.

2- Float your bags: let the coral temperature acclimate to your aquarium water inside the bags they came in. Floating the bags in your display or sump is one of the most important steps to acclimate your corals successfully.Usually 15-30 minutes is enough time for the temperature to even out from the water in the bag to the aquarium water.

3- Empty the bags into a plastic pot: You can separate your corals in different plastic pots. However, our tip is to put them all in the same container, in order to provide enough volume to add the aquarium water, as well as prepare an immersion in a dip solution for pest control.

4- Add ½ cup of aquarium water every 5 minutes: The slower you add the water the better. Corals and other invertebrates are sensitive to fluctuation in ph and salinity. Some aquarists prefer drip acclimation(we offer a dip acclimation kit for your convenience), but the drop in temperature must be considered, so the process should take no longer than 30 minutes.

5- Coral Prophylaxis or pest control (Dipping): Dip corals every time you’re adding a newcomer to your tank. The best method is always to quarantine your corals for at least 72 days, but not everyone is capable of having another aquarium for quarantine.
So the safest method is to visually inspect your coral thoughtfully and dip them in medication.
There are a variety of dipping products available in the market.

6- Release your Coral in the aquarium: Find a suitable place where the coral will receive the proper flow and lower intensity light preferably in the substrate in the first few days and gradually it will rise to the aquascape you can also use one of the many frag racks we offer to slowly raise the coral up to the correct light intensity. It will take a few days for him to adjust to the new lighting and as always remember to be patient. Good things happen slowly in a reef aquarium.

As coral transport is super stressful for them, their natural appearance and color can take a few days to get back to normal.
