The Dragonfly Project Follow this properties transformation from round up’d nightmare to lush Chesapeake Bay Alliance watershed while sharing some practical tree hugger tips!

Sort of a happy tree hugger page but more of a page about one family trying to step up and do what they can to help the environment while saving a badly neglected 100 year old property. We are only given one earth to live on. Maybe it is time to step up and try to do better with it....

I think it looks better now.
So do all my pollinators and wildlife.

Any trout fisher folks?

Please help us save a life! Our beloved eagle, who is recovering from lead poisoning, has finally regained his appetite and prefers trout. We are in critical need of fish, especially trout, to ensure his continued recovery. If you have any trout or plan on fishing today, please consider donating it to us. Your generosity can make all the difference in saving this majestic creature. Thank you for your kind consideration!

Utrecht, the Netherlands
It is being viewed as the **correction of a historic mistake.** More than 40 years after parts of the canal that encircled Utrecht’s old town were concreted over to accommodate a 12-lane motorway, the Dutch city celebrates restoration of its 900-year-old moat.

‼️UPDATE‼️

Just want to answer a few questions;

When you rent a trap, we charge $5 per trap per week. We have you fill out a paper with your name, address, phone # and the staff writes down your credit card information. By signing the contract you agree to allow us to charge your credit card for renting the trap at $5 a week or $90 for the price of the trap if you don’t return it. We also get a copy your drivers license.

Due to loosing 7 traps to 1 person, we no longer rent more than 5 to one person at a time.

We can’t ask for a $90 deposit from every one, most people can’t afford a $90 deposit.

We offer FREE TNR’s to residents of Adams County, all we ask is that you pay the $5 trap rental fee for the maintenance of the traps.

PLEASE RETURN THE TRAPS…

‼️ATTENTION‼️

The following people haven't returned our cat traps. We have made multiple attempts to call you and have even attempted to charge your credit card for the amount you agreed to pay if you didn't return the trap, but your credit card has been declined. I am sorry it has come this but these traps are very expensive and it's people like you that ruin it for others. Once you return our trap(s), we will remove your name from the list.

Hayley Otter (Gettysburg)-has 7 traps since March 29th 2023, owes $630

Allene Woodward (Aspers)-has 1 trap since August 1st 2023, owes $90

And this is why I love this house! 1921 old growth pine

Home Buyer: I want a house built after 1980.
Me: Actually, you don't.
Let me explain.
Newer isn't always better, and this picture sums it up pretty well. The quality of modern lumber is simply far inferior to the quality of lumber they were using to build homes in the early and mid-20th century. Wood quality began dropping on a serious scale in the 1980s due to old-growth timber being almost completely depleted. Most wood used today is grown very fast - not only can you visibly see the difference in quality, but the newer lumber is more prone to rotting due to a lack of heartwood. Slow growth wood yields much more heartwood, which is the longest lasting part of the tree, whereas sap wood (new growth wood) will rot very quickly. Modern lumber is also a lot more prone to termite damage as it is softer and easier to consume whereas old lumber is extremely resinous and naturally termite resistant. A good rule - as long as the plumbing and electric has been updated, a well-built home from the mid-20th century is a better investment and will likely outlast a newer build. For more info on old growth wood versus modern lumber please read this great article: https://bit.ly/3h7MbBr

*Clarification: Yes, these two pieces of lumber come from two different trees. The expert in the attached article is not comparing the lumber of the same tree over time. He is comparing the lumber that was commonly used to build houses 75 years ago versus the lumber commonly used to build houses today.

Ladybugs, also known as ladybirds or lady beetles, are beneficial insects in the garden. Here are some interesting gardening facts about them:

1. **Natural Pest Control**: Ladybugs are voracious predators of aphids, scale insects, mites, and other garden pests, making them valuable allies in controlling pest populations without the need for chemical pesticides.

2. **Lifecycle**: Ladybugs undergo complete metamorphosis, starting as eggs laid on plants near colonies of aphids or other prey. They hatch into larvae, which resemble tiny alligators and also feed on pests. After several molts, they pupate and emerge as adult ladybugs.

3. **Color Variations**: While the classic red with black spots is the most well-known coloration, ladybugs can come in various colors and spot patterns, including yellow, orange, and even black with red spots.

4. **Longevity**: Adult ladybugs can live for several months, and during their lifespan, they can consume thousands of aphids and other pests, contributing significantly to garden health.

5. **Overwintering**: Ladybugs often gather in large numbers to overwinter in protected areas such as leaf litter, tree bark crevices, or inside buildings. Providing suitable overwintering sites can encourage these beneficial insects to stay in your garden.

6. **Attracting Ladybugs**: Planting a diverse array of flowers, herbs, and other plants can attract ladybugs by providing them with nectar and pollen as supplemental food sources when pest populations are low.

7. **Conservation**: While ladybugs are beneficial, their populations can be negatively impacted by habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. Creating a garden environment that supports biodiversity and avoids chemical pesticides can help conserve these helpful insects.

8. **Cultural Significance**: Ladybugs are often seen as symbols of good luck and are cherished in many cultures around the world. In some traditions, it's believed that having a ladybug land on you is a sign of good fortune.

By understanding and promoting the presence of ladybugs in your garden, you can help maintain a healthy balance of pests and beneficial insects while minimizing the need for harmful chemicals.

This is a honey bee. The pollen on her legs is from dandelions. Her tongue is sticking out due to what killed her that was on the dandelions. It's spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food. Please don't spray for w**ds until vou see the blackberries blooming. In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until midle of June. There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. No bees, no food crops for us and we all starve.
