Hi everyone, remember me? I'm Arlo the West Highland Terrie and Dachshund mix, a West Highland Doxie. I was a little scruffy when I came to stay with ACDR, so I saw the groomer for a bath & hair cut. I was such a good boy! Today I am going to see the vet for a check-up.

Hi everyone, it's me, Tucker!
You might remember me as one of the 'Sweet Seven' that came into care over the Christmas holidays.
I had my dental surgery and my Foster Dad was really worried about me because I am a senior guy with a history of seizures, but since I had a great vet and so many of you were sending me well wishes, I wasn't worried. After my surgery my foster Dad was the best, making sure I took my medicine, got lots of rest and he took me for walks. I don't know what he would do without me?!
I decided to ask ACDR if I could adopt him. And they said, 'Yes!'
So, I am here to tell you that I am a Foster Fail 🥰🐾💕

🐾 Say hello to Dolly & Jimmy Dean 🐾

We were recently posted for adoption and received some really great applications, however due to a few emergencies with other dogs in care and other adoptions being finalized, it delayed processing of our applications. By the time the team got around to calling the families who applied for us, most had already adopted elsewhere. We are happy for them, but that means we are still searching for our fur-ever home.
A little about us;
Dolly is a big cuddle bug. She loves to tuck her nose under your chin and snuggle in. Jimmy Dean likes to cuddle too, and has those hearthrob glances that make you want to cuddle him right back.
We both like to bark when we greet people, we just need to be seen and loved, but once we get to know you, we are happy to snuggle up to you and be your shadow. Dolly is a very confident and personable five year old girl weighing about 18 pounds, she could stand to lose a pound or two, but don't tell her that 😆. Jimmy Dean will be four this summer and weighs about 14 pounds. He is a little more shy with his confidence building more and more each day.
We love going for walks and car rides. Dolly gets excited from the minute she bounds up inside the vehicle, looking out the window at everything around her. JD wants to search for the perfect spot to just lay back and enjoy the ride.

What is a foster home?
A foster parent/family is someone who is willing and able to open their home to a dachshund in need, on a temporary basis, while the rescue works at finding them their “furever” home. A foster parent/family is only asked to provide love and care, ACDR will take care of the rest.

How do I/we become a foster home?
To start the process to become a foster home, potential foster parents/families must fill out our Foster Application, which consist of a series of questions relating to their work and lifestyle. This helps us determine the family's activity level and compatibility with the dachshund(s) that arrive into care with ACDR.

What happens next?
Once the foster application has been received, the provided references are contacted by phone and a home visit is arranged. This helps determine if the potential foster parent/family has what’s needed to care for a rescue dachshund while they wait for their forever home.

What will it cost me?
Although most foster parents/families end up spoiling their foster dachshund and treating them as their own, there is no cost to the foster parent/family. We provide all the supplies necessary for the dog's well being, including food, toys and beds, along with any and all medical treatment fees.

How long will I/we care for the dachshund?
This depends and is estimated on a dachshund by dachshund basis. All dachshunds must remain in foster care for a minimum of three weeks, so we can learn their temperament, so they have time to decompress and be vetted. If the dog is recovering from surgery or a medical treatment, they must stay in foster care until they are healthy again. Some dogs may take a little longer to rehabilitate, which will set them up for success in their new home. Generally a dachshund stays in our foster care program between four and six weeks.

Today is National Dog Biscuit Day
Here is a simple recipe to make some dog biscuits for your pooch.
•1cup oats (old fashioned, 1-minute oats, or instant)
•⅓ cup pure pumpkin, (not pumpkin pie filling)
•¼ cup peanut butter
Blend together. Roll out on parchment paper, cut into shapes and bake at 325° for 25 to 30 mins.

Thank you everyone for the love after my emergency surgery. I have been resting and doing so well.
Right before my emergency vet visit, a family had been chosen to adopt me. I was worried they wouldn't want me after having another surgery, but instead, they checked in on me everyday and even came to visit me! That sure does make a girl feel real special 🥰
Whereas I am healing so well, I am off on my three-week trial. I am so excited...can't you tell by the blur of my tail in this picture?! 🥰🐾💕

Please welcome 18 month old Arlo. Arlo is a West Highland Doxie, which is a wirehair dachshund and West Highland Terrier mix. He is a handsome, sweet and social little guy. Arlo will need to see the vet for a check-up once he has had some time to settle in.

Hey everyone, it's me, Furby! This weather has been great. I love to play in the snow :)
ACDR received so many applications for me and lots of messages checking in on me, so I wanted to say, Thank you! Way to make a guy feel loved 🥰
It is time for me to get all cleaned up because a family has been chosen for me. I am so excited! I will be off on my three week trial soon. Stay tuned for further pup-dates.
