Time to sort out the drainage on the track. Only time I've managed to get Alys off the tractor was to get her onto the digger instead. Winter light is not our friend but the work carries on regardless.

Here at Birch Equine we don't just think about horses and ponies. We are adding to the hedgerows, planting trees, leaving areas of meadow and digging ponds to support local wildlife and encourage biodiversity. 🐦‍⬛🦉🦇🦗🐸🌼🥀

Our ponies will be the first to test the tracks when they are finished. Here is our Blaengwen Samantha. 28 yr old Welsh Section C and still full of sass! She taught Alys to ride and has been part of our family for 16 years. We love her and we think she likes us. 😆

When we feed a horse, we're also feeding the billions of bugs that live in their hindguts 🦠
These bugs are mega important to a horse; their most well-known job is to help the horse extract the nutrients they need from the fibrous feeds they eat, but their job description goes way beyond that!

🐎 influences behaviour via gut-brain axis
🐎 modulates the immune system
🐎 manufactures vitamins
🐎 metabolises nutrients
🐎 maintains homeostasis of several biological systems

When dysbiosis occurs - that is, an imbalanced microbiome - this can result in several negative consequences, such as:

🐎 colic, laminitis and other disease
🐎 obesity and metabolic dysfunction
🐎 systemic inflammation
🐎 skin disorders
🐎 behavioral disturbance

So, to keep your horse happy and healthy, feed them, and their tiny gut tenants 🐎🦠, a species appropriate diet, rich in fibre and plant diversity.

A diverse diet will create a diverse microbiome, which will keep your horse happy and healthy 🌼🍀🌸🌿🪻🌳🌻🌱
