WHO WE ARE: Friends of Prairie Grove Pound is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), dedicated and growing group of volunteers and fosters who are committed to the homeless animals in our community. We well-check, vaccinate, microchip and spay or neuter all pets adopted from the City of Prairie Grove Pound. We are committed to making improvements to the pound in order to make the animals' stay more comfortable

until they are fostered or adopted. WHAT WE DO: Friends of Prairie Grove Pound provides supplemental services to the City of Prairie Grove for the City Pound. We are an incorporated non-profit group that provides volunteer maintenance, operational and fundraising services that support the City Pound. While we do team with other groups for special events and projects, our primary focus is to assist with daily pound facility operations, care for the impounded animals, re-home adopt-able animals and raise funds that will allow the City of Prairie Grove to further grow and improve the animal services offered to residents. Howick Animal Shelter of Washington County and pre-approved out of state rescues. DONATIONS: The costs of vetting and transporting are funded through our group by fundraisers and private donations. (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick.) Every penny goes to help us help our homeless pets find a way to their furever homes! OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

* Provide food, shelter and medical care for the displaced animals.
*Reunite lost and missing pets with rightful owners.
* Facilitate adoption of unwanted, abused and neglected animals into loving, permanent homes.
* Provide education on responsible pet ownership and compliance of local ordinances and state statutes relating to animals.
* Promote programs that strengthen the human-animal bond to reduce the number of animals surrendered to overcrowded shelters. What donated items does the pound need most? Kitty litter (Clumping kind works best)
b. Wet cat food (The kind with the smaller portions is better. Not so much left over so less flies)
c. Wet dog food (Not really a necessity but it's nice to give the long term residents a treat now & then)
d. Dog and cat treats, especially things like hard chewies that keep animals occupied for a while. Dry cat food
f. Pet-safe fly spray
g. General cleaning supplies like paper towels, garbage bags, the occasional container of laundry soap, Arm & Hammer deodorant powder, etc.

2. Can I volunteer at the pound? The City Pound is not staffed and is therefore not open to the public. Due to City insurance liability concerns, only city officials and select Friends volunteers are allowed on-site to work at the pound.

3. Are there any volunteer opportunities through Friends of Prairie Grove Pound? Yes, if you are interested in volunteering, please request membership to the following “Friends of Prairie Grove Pound Volunteers” closed FaceBook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/293982084103998/. We have several opportunities and would love for volunteers to assist with related tasks. Some examples include:
a.i. Launder pound animal bedding
a.ii. Collect bedding/food/supply donations for pound animals
a.iii. Provide a foster home for an adoptable cat or dog
a.iv. Make copies of informational flyers for events
a.v. Hang flyers advertising events at local businesses/venues
a.vi. Event Set-up
a.vii. Event Take down
a.viii. Walk, hold, and play with adoptable animals at events
a.ix. Take on a task at one of our events
a.x. Donate and or collect items to be sold at Friends booth at the The Locals flea market in Prairie Grove
a.xi. Pound Grounds-keeping Assistance

4. Is the pound open to the public? Please contact us via FaceBook private message or at [email protected] to schedule time Friends volunteer to visit the animals at the facility. Animal Services Contact Information

c. To report animal abuse in Washington County, please contact either the Humane Society of the Ozarks, (479) 444-7387 or the Animal League of Washington County, (479) 263-7058

2. Low-cost spay/neuter contact information:

b. Spay Arkansas, (479) 756-1100, provides low-cost spay/neuter services for any pet owner in Northwest AR - http://www.spayarkansas.org

3. Where can I get my pet micro-chipped? Low-cost option for residents within Prairie Grove city limits – contact Prairie Grove Police Department, (479) 846-3270, to take advantage of $12 micro-chipping
b. Most veterinary offices provide this service for a fee. Friends Organization/Services Questions
1. What info do I need to provide for a lost pet to be posted on this site? Recent photo
b. Pet Breed
c. Pet Name
d. Last location pet was seen
e. Contact phone number
f. Any additional info that would be helpful in finding pet

2. Do you post adoptable pets that aren’t impounded by the City of Prairie Grove? We are a support system for the City Pound. Therefore, we only post pets that are adoptable through the City of Prairie Grove on our page. Exception: If you adopted your pet from the City of Prairie Grove Pound and are no longer able to keep the animal, we will assist in networking your pet for rehoming. Please contact us via FaceBook private message or at [email protected] for more information.

3. Can you give me any guidance on getting my pet adopted to a new home? Reduce cost of adoption as much as possible for the new owner
a.i. If your pet hasn’t been spayed or neutered, have it altered. See #11 for low-cost spay/neuter info. Make sure pet is up-to-date on vaccinations
a.iii. Microchip pet
b. Post your pet on your FaceBook page and include all pertinent adoption information. Ask your friends to share the post. Be sure that the privacy setting for your photo and the post are set to “Public;” this ensures the photo and post can be viewed by others after it has been shared by your friends. c. Post your pet on Craig’s List – Be sure to ask for a small rehoming fee. Bad things can happen to pets who are adopted out for free
d. Create an adoption flyer with a few photos and post it at work, church and/or anywhere else you frequent. Be sure to include a contact phone number. If possible, do a “home-check” with any potential adopter to ensure the pet is being placed in a good environment. Never do a home-check at a stranger’s house alone. Bring a friend, make sure someone else knows the address where you both of you are going and when you are supposed to return. Take your cell phone inside the home with you. f. If the potential adopters already have a pet, ask them for their veterinarian’s name. Contact the vet and request a “vet check” on the adopter’s existing pets. The vet’s staff member should be able to advise you whether or not the family’s current pets are up-to-date on vaccinations. This information will give you an idea as to how well your pet will be taken care of by the new family. Note that some people do give vaccinations to their pets themselves.

4. How do I relinquish a cat or dog? Residents within Prairie Grove City limits, contact Prairie Grove Police Department - (479) 846-3270. Relinquish fee is $40, which covers vetting fees. Most of our pets are placed in foster homes and adopted relatively quickly. Residents in Washington County, contact Washington County Animal Shelter - (479) 695-3450

5. What is your group’s policy on endorsing politicians, petitions & legislation? Our organization does not endorse any politicians or promote any petitions. This group’s support of any animal services-related legislation will be reviewed by the Board on a case-by-case basis. Our primary goal is supporting the City of Prairie Grove Pound facilities, operations and animals. http://friendsofpgp.wix.com/fofpgp

🐾🎄🐶Beautiful Red Healer Daisy wants to cuddle up with you for Christmas!🐶🎄🐾

Daisy was surrendered due to no fault of her own. She is 9 years old, and not really sure why she is here.

Daisy is a dominant female, and is dog selective. She would also do best with older kids who can respect her space. But she has no problem cuddling up in your lap! She keeps a super clean kennel and is well trained with potty manners. Though she isn't used to walking on a leash, she also isn't ready to run off, those days are over for her.

Daisy will make a great companion. Come meet Daisy today and put an end to her confusion!

Meet Daisy!

Poor daisy is a 9 year old red healer who was surrendered. She is confused why she is here, she has been a good companion!

Daisy sometimes misbehaves around other female dogs, and cats. She is dog selective but would likely do well with a male. She is reportedly good when left alone, and usually good with new people as well. Kids are just OK. She would likely do better with older children.

This beautiful gal deserves a loving home.

Update: Adopted!

Poor sweet Leroy!

This 15lb boy is using his sweet chirp to draw you in. He is extremely affectionate and friendly. He can be indoor\outdoor, but this boy needs to be around his people. Won't you bust him outta here?!

The person who got him to us believes he may have been left behind or dumped.

Dislikes: Being cooped up!
Likes: You.

Update: On a home trial again! THANK YOU all for stepping up to help these babies! Nothing makes our hearts happier.

Big head sweet boy Rocky is still looking for a home!

He went on a home trial, and the family loved him! However, he was a bit too rambunctious for their senior lab. We appreciate those who do home trials, as it allows us to learn more about each dog.

Rocky was surrendered and a bit scared when he first came in, but has learned hands and people mean LOVE!

Rocky is about 1 year, trainable, a hefty 75lbs (though that is a lot of muscle). He is a cane corso, possibly one other mix in there. He would do best with kids who can handle how strong he is, and a dog playmate who is a bit more submissive, or young, and can keep up with him.

There is a video of him under our "adoptable pets" album.

🐾 Featuring volunteer Alivia on giving Tuesday! 🐾

Alivia volunteers her time and is helping to change our community through caring for the animals of Prairie Grove.

"If I can help any animal by volunteering or fostering them, it puts a smile on my face, knowing that, if even for a brief moment, they will feel loved!"

Consider giving your time through volunteering or fostering with us, or Hope on the Hill cat rescue. We are thankful for volunteers like Alivia.

On this giving Tuesday, please remember the small, local rescues like ours. Hope On The Hill is operated out of our family home. We do not use outside fosters. Our adoption center is at Petsense by Tractor Supply on MLK in SW Fayetteville, between Goodwill and Lowes.

We are so privileged to have this incredible partnership that has resulted in over 130 adoptions since last December. Many of those cats came from Prairie Grove or were adopted by Prairie Grove families!

Help us keep fighting the good fight, in partnership with Petsense and the amazing people with the Friends of Prairie Grove Pound

HOPE ON THE HILL'S WISH LIST

We know that not everyone can, or wants to, adopt a cat or kitten.
What you can do to help vulnerable cats at risk is to help with the supplies that we use every day, or donate funds for veterinary expenses, dewormer, spay/neuter, microchip and vaccination costs, fuel and other expenses that reduce the number of cats and kittens that we can help at a time.

We welcome monetary donations and donations of the supplies we use daily. Almost all of our wish list items may be purchased at Petsense, our adoption partner.
