Just wanted to take a little bit of time here and give everybody an update on the Grey 17. We have been making very strong positive strides in their lives. They have all seen our Vet and an individual game plan has been developed for bird addressing both behavioral and medical needs. Thanks to our friends King's Cages we have also started transitioning them into new, larger cages. We have been addressing a diet change and our friends at Mysafebirdstore have sent over dozens of lbs of food to meet that need. Thank you Fr Joe for the treats from our friends at Gini's Birdiebread Cones and Muffins. Also big shout out to the Venza family who graciously covered the entire vet bill . Also Jill, Greta, Brian, Mimi and Frank who have sent in various cleaning supplies, nuts, and other goodies for the birds. We can’t forget our friends at The Parrot Posse who also sent over 100+ swings and toys for both the Grey 17 and some of our other birds here at the rescue. If I missed anybody, I apologize, community has come through in fine style with many people willing to help. I have no doubt once these guys are all cleared and ready for adoption, They will find great homes quickly. Enjoy the long weekend..

Today was a bit of a long day. Thankfully 17 Congo African Greys are now safely here with us. while they were cherished in their previous home, which you can see from the pictures (taken from their previous home), the upkeep on them wad getting to be too much for their owner. Some of these birds, have been handled regularly while some of them have not been handled in a long while. We will give them time to adjust and decompress while we slowly transition them into newer cages and introduce toys. Please note none of these birds are up for adoption currently while they undergo vet care and behavioral training. But if you feel so inclined, we could definitely use some new toys, perches , and any food or treats you would like to send.

Amazon and PayPal donations can be made for these guys through our website. Venmo isn’t working but we do have Zelle as well. [email protected] : https://www.lonelygreyrescue.org/

Unfortunately it has become apparent that people in general need a reminder of a few things.

First and foremost, we are people just like you which means we are not available to you, 24 seven 365. You will sometimes have to wait for a response. Especially on days like today, over a holiday weekend. If you get unruly, rude, or inappropriate in anyway, you will simply be ignored or blocked.

Secondly, if you need to surrender a bird, you will have to work around our schedule. We take every opportunity, to make openings all throughout the week and weekend. Unfortunately, there are only 24 hours in a day and only so many board of directors who can meet with or come to you, to take in a bird. Additionally, if you want our help, we will certainly provide it to you but it is not our job to convince you to allow us the opportunity to help you. That’s not how this works. Recently, we have had far too many people looking for us to jump through incredible hoops just to help them. Thank you for your understanding.

Oh sweet Bella. The 30-year-old umbrella Cockatoo. She has two eyes, but only one of them functions. Unfortunately the noise finally got to be too much for her owners and here she is. The trauma to the eye is something that happened to her years ago and has thus far not been an issue. we will have the eye checked out and of course a conplete workup for her before she goes up for adoption, but please keep an eye out for this special needs, sweetheart. While she is fully flighted, she does not have the ability to fly due to her eye.

Here’s your PSA for the day. Your two or three zebra finches, parakeets, any small species of bird, will not remain as two or three if you give them Nest boxes, nests, homemade contraptions, or anything of the like. I’m sure you, like many others think it would be such a great thing for little Jonny or little Suzy to see their birds make a nest, hatch out eggs, and see the cycle of life. The reality is, however, that your friends and family will not be able to take in all of these extra birds you have now made and you will quickly find yourself overwhelmed. They will also continue to breed even though you remove all of these things. We have for many years, told people it is perfectly fine with the right size cage to have pairs or small groups of the same s*x. There is no need to seek out male and female pairs. There is absolutely no shortage of finches, parakeets, many small birds. This group of zebra finches, 20, started out like all the rest with just two or three. They quickly became too much for the owner to be able to take care of, and reached out to us for help. While they had a very large cage, and they seem to be in pretty good health, the large number was just too much. These little guys and girls will be separated by s*x and seen by our vet. Once cleared, they too will be looking for homes. Most likely in groups of four or five.

Story time.
There was once a bird named buddy. He lived very happily in his home until his human parents could no longer care for him due to unforeseen circumstances. They looked all over and found a couple to adopt buddy. Buddy happily lived there for the next 10 years. Unfortunately, something changed , and Bud became aggressive towards his adoptive parents. Doing what they thought was best, they reached out to buddies Original Owner , whose circumstances have not changed, and she was unable to take him back. Upon hearing this the current owners said if you know anybody who can take him, let us know. His Original Owner reached out to us and we said yes we could happily help you. I did advise her, that she should reach out immediately to the current owners and let them know. Luckily, she did and found out that the current owners had already made arrangementsto have Bud euthanized. Luckily, she was able to talk them out of the euthanasia and off to the upper reaches of Connecticut, we went. We were able to pick him up the next day, today. But moral of the story, is just because your bird is aggressive with you does not mean that somebody else wouldn’t be able to work with them. Before thinking about euthanasia or giving the bird to somebody off the street, please contact Rescue so your bird has the best chance of finding a forever home.

Hello guys and gals. I know summer is in full swing, and everybody is doing their thing and enjoying the weather. We have been extremely busy over here as well. You can look forward to some new adoptable posts coming out very shortly. We have been getting inundated with birds of all sizes. Ive attached some pictures of a few of our newest intakes which are still in quarantine and will be available for adoption once cleared by our vets. While we have been able to keep up, what we need now are more adopters. So buckle your seatbelts, and let’s start finding some of these amazing birds some great homes
