These lovely words from a client: "Thank you so much once again! After our session we met (A) at Bennett's in Mangawhai. All she needed was a small towel on the ground and she stayed put, the perfect companion! Never in a million years did I expect those skills to be so transferable so soon.. incredible!

So appreciate all of your time, energy and support".

Chirag Patel - well worth following. Great video here covering loose lead walking, getting your dog's focus and dealing with attention seeking. Remember that a clicker is just a marker - no magic. You will always have your voice with you, so clicker not needed.

Good advice from APDTNZ. I would also add that sending a dog to daycare 5 times a week is not necessarily the best thing for your dog regardless of how social it is since it can fill the dog's bucket so that the dog is constantly hyper and struggles to be calm. Also, free access to play with other dogs can build value in other dogs at the expense of your own relationship. Clients whose dogs attend daycare often tell me that they struggle to win their dog's attention when other dogs are around.

Like all things, there are no hard and fast rules about what will happen, but it is good to be aware of what might happen and certainly good daycares have their place.

Since there are no official regulations in place for dog daycares in New Zealand, how can you make sure daycare is the best option for them?

No matter how well trained or 'good' you genuinely think your dog is, don't risk it. They are dogs. And dogs have their off days too.

Spot on! My dogs have learnt to tolerate each other - usually because one will give way to the other's use of pressure. They can have "Aww, sweet" moments, but usually when the sunny, warm spot is of limited size!😎

Humans love hugs, and we get particularly excited when it looks like dogs are hugging. But how often are dogs really expressing affection that way?

I'm back with in-person classes!

3 levels of puppy classes now available from puppy pre-school (so book your pup before collection!) to older puppies. Courses run on a Saturday morning for 4 weeks at Hakaru Hall. Level 1 and Level 2 courses require some previous training with me.

As always, class sizes will be small to provide the optimum benefit for handler and pup. The courses are priced at $120 each with discounts for upfront commitment to multiple courses.

Contact me via pm or email at [email protected] for further details.

Many thanks to Jennifer, a client that doesn't have a Facebook account so could not publish a review on this page:

"Brenda is an excellent dog trainer and coach. She is full of great ideas and taught us a wide variety of fun games and practical tips we could apply to our two dogs. Best part about Brenda's coaching style is that it's very practical and hands on, and she provides extremely comprehensive notes which makes learning very easy for both the dogs and the humans! We'd highly recommend Brenda's services. It's great value and we learnt a lot. Thanks for all your help Brenda!"
