In Loving Memory to Lily —Puppy Mill Momma—Survivor...
Lily had spent the first seven years of her life as a breeding dog in Puppy Mill...
Here is her story:
“Lily spent all of her days confined to a small, cold wire cage in a dark, foul-smelling barn.
Never was she removed from her cage for exercise or socialization. In her dreary confines, Lily was forced to produce one litter after another with no respite. Like all commercial breeding dogs, she was a veritable breeding machine whose worth was measured in only one way – her ability to produce puppies.

By seven years of age, Lily was worn out. Commonplace in the industry, she had received little to no veterinary care throughout her life, the result of which, for her, was terribly disturbing. Due to years of no dental care, poor quality food, rabbit bottle watering and no appropriate chew toys, the roof of Lily’s mouth and lower jaw, had rotted away. Her chest was riddled with mammary tumors and she was absolutely terrified of people.
She was discarded by the Breeder, for not being able to produce no more puppies..
Her rescuer The Strader family provided Lily with the love, compassion, and veterinary treatment she so desperately needed.

In May 2008, Lily passed away at home, in the arms of her loving adoptive father and family. Just fifteen months after her rescue.
R.I.P Lily ❤️🐾❤️
Our promise to Lily, and all the Dogs Left Behind producing puppies in Puppy Mills:
We’ll Never Stop Educating People About Horrid, Inhumane Puppy Mills!
We’ll Never Stop our Fight, until We Abolish
The PUPPY MILL INDUSTRY!

That day, in a crowded airport, something extraordinary was about to happen. Bruno, a gentle and loyal dog, sat quietly beside his owner, Daniel, a man whose eyes were filled with both excitement and sadness. He was leaving for a new life in another country, a fresh start—but there was a problem. Bruno, his lifelong companion, wasn’t allowed to travel in the hold due to his size and health concerns.

Daniel pleaded with the airline staff, desperation in his voice. “I can’t leave him behind,” he whispered, his hands gripping Bruno’s fur as if letting go would shatter him.

What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. The crew, moved by the undeniable bond between the man and his dog, decided to break protocol. “We’ll find him a place in the cabin,” one of them said with a reassuring smile. And so, with a bit of rearranging and some understanding passengers, Bruno was carefully placed in a seat, cradled like a child in Daniel’s arms.

As the plane took off, Bruno remained still, his deep brown eyes scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. There was no barking, no whining—just quiet trust. It was as if he knew that this was their only chance to stay together.

Passengers who had first been skeptical were soon enchanted. A woman next to them gently stroked Bruno’s head, a man in the row ahead turned back to take a picture, and even the flight attendants couldn’t help but smile. One of them whispered, “He’s probably the best passenger we’ve ever had.”

Throughout the journey, Daniel never let go of Bruno. He held him close, whispering reassurances, letting the warmth of his best friend remind him that no matter where they were going, they were together.

When the plane landed, Daniel exhaled in relief. He turned to Bruno, his voice thick with emotion, “We made it, buddy.” Tears streamed down his face as he realized—against all odds, they had won their battle.

That flight wasn’t just about reaching a new country. It was a reminder to everyone onboard that love, loyalty, and kindness can sometimes defy even the strictest rules.

That day, an airline made an exception—but in reality, they had made history in the heart of a man and his dog. ❤️🐶✈️

This family is full of shock and grief after their rescue cat suffocated in an IRIS pet food container two days ago. Suzy Hudson writes, "This just happened to us. We had the bin in the closet & my cat got locked in the closet & then got into the bin. My 8 yr old daughter found him in there when she went to feed our cats. We are devastated. 💔 Iris food bin. I started putting it in my closet because I saved one of my other kitties from almost suffocating in it. He must have been in the closet when I closed it & got into the food bin.

Bear aka Baby Bear would've been 5 years old this July. I run a cat sanctuary & was going to stop intake due to a horrible divorce I was enduring in 2020. But was asked to help a sick kitty (Bear's sister). When I got to the location there were 3 young adults (mom 2 siblings) & 4 under 6 weeks of age kittens needing desperate help. Bear rushed right to me when I got there. It was like he knew I was there to rescue them. He was the first one to let me rescue them. Yes, I was able to get everyone eventually.

Bear turned into an emotional support kitty for me. While I dealt with a horrible divorce. He always knew when I was having anxiety even to this day. He was the happiest kitty you ever met. He never complained, everyone in my house loved him & he loved everyone.
Sadly my 8 year old daughter found him when she & her 11 year old brother were starting inside night chores. While I prepped to go out & tend to our backyard cat sanctuary house & birds.
We are so devastated. Our entire household is broken losing him. We love you Baby Bear."

Prevent Pet Suffocation has received several reports from pet owners who have lost their cats to suffocation in plastic bins for food or cat litter. Cats love to get into tight enclosed places. We remind everyone to keep all containers, appliance doors, pantry doors, and closet doors tightly closed. Keep food bags and containers off high shelves and appliances that cats can easily reach by jumping. Please share in memory of sweet Bear. Thank you.

Don't be afraid to speak up. >> https://wildhorseeducation.org/2025/02/17/afraid-to-ask-take-action/
As specific battles move forwards to stop abuse and unjustified removals, there are big moves happening that threaten our wild ones.
Wild horses and burros removed from their homes on the range to make room for profit driven private interests are in danger of being killed or sold off without limits (slaughter).
There are also big changes afoot that will make it easier to give away public land outright to states and those same private profiteers.
Do not be afraid to speak up.

Little dog syndrome is a well known phrase, but is it fair?

After all, if they are ignored when they tell us things they need - including safety, what choice do these little ones have when they are scared?

I hope "cared for" includes having the cat spayed/neutered! 😸🤞

WHY LOVE ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH

This is a very belated Valentine’s related post, but still falls within the month of love!

Dogs need so much more than just our love.

I would presume that we all love our dogs, but just loving them is not enough.

Love is far from just the name of an emotion or feeling – a noun.

Love is a verb – a “doing” word.
It’s the doing word of building relationship, trust, understanding, patience, acceptance, communication, consent, respect, nurturing and a commitment to ongoing wellbeing.

Love is asking – What can I do to meet my dog’s needs? Instead of asking - How do I make my dog behave? When a dog’s needs are met, behaviour problems often solve themselves.

Just like one person loving another, loving a dog is a “doing” word, not just something that we feel.

A Chihuahua in the right home with the right treatment can be the perfect companion animal.

They were bred for it after all.

Chihuahuas are smart and straightforward little dogs without a doubt.

Yet because of their size and human behaviour they are having a hard time.

When we look at the Chihuahua pages and posts on social media, more of them are being treated more like toys than like the dogs they are.

I actually saw a Chihuahua with false eyelashes on yesterday.

And the number of videos where they are being pushed into a fearful, aggressive and defensive response for likes and laughs, well that’s heartbreaking.

So I’m asking you now, if you have a Chihuahua – please consider what they want.
Please consider that they might not want to be manhandled.

That a living being is not an opportunity for a photo shoot if they have to be intimidated into it.

Please consider how vulnerable they are.

Please know that they are looking to you for safety.

Please don’t let them down.

We place a lot of expectations on dogs. We needs to remember that they are individuals and having their own experience.
