We are not doing well at our dog intake freeze…These two gaffers came in this week, and will be up for adoption in the coming weeks. Although very different circumstances, they are both painfully common examples of the working breeds we see much too regularly these days. Both under a year old, both excellent examples of exactly what they are supposed to be (Wyatt: German shepherd and Barney: border collie), both bred by people who didn’t care where they ended up and wouldn’t support or take responsibility for the animals they produced, and both homeless due to human error. Wyatt and Barney will be looking for breed experienced homes, that understand the responsibility and requirements of owning a working breed dog, and can provide them the proper training, boundaries, exercise and life they demand and deserve. In the meantime, they are helping each other get used to this new chapter in their lives, and having a pretty great time doing it!
NOTE: I would like to add that we fully support responsible and ethical breeders who thoughtfully produce and place their dogs, and who will take them back come hell or high water. We have worked with more than a few breeders over the years that have been nothing but responsible. COVID sadly made many people breed their less than ideal dogs and sell them w***y nilly, and we continue to see people impulse buying stunning and brilliant working dogs without the experience, support, or lifestyle to own them. This is leading to them being euthanized, being surrendered, or being neglected in numbers we have not seen in decades. We need to do better.
