You are still so full of s***k and sass, and have decided that talking is your new way to make sure you have my attention.⁣

You continue to love to work, insisting on checking anything for gluten, not wanting to be left out when Zephyr and Maera are also working. ⁣
⁣
Last summer we traveled out of town and you once again showed your love for the sniffing game and earned your AKC Novice Buried title. ⁣
⁣
Just before Halloween, you humored me to have these amazing powder photos taken. Despite not being as agile as when you were younger, you gave it your all and leapt over the very low jump, clearly able to jump higher than necessary. ⁣Thank you Edward Perry for capturing these priceless memories. ⁣
⁣
I treasure every special memory we make together, and look forward to making many more. Happy sweet 15! ⁣

⁣As Luna nears her 15th birthday, I commissioned this tribute to her scent work career, and I am so thrilled with how beautiful it turned out. I could think of no better way to celebrate my heart dog, my first dog (on my own), my first sport/performance dog, my first titled dog (in multiple sports and venues), my first service dog. She is my everything. 💜🌙⁣

My little happy sniffer did it again! Luna competed in an AKC Scent Work trial this weekend and earned one more qualifying run to finish her Novice Buried title. I’m so proud of this girl, her work ethic, always ready for an adventure, and her joy in playing the sniffing game, even at 14 years old. It was also fun to compete in a unique (to us) venue at the World Equestrian Center. ⁣

⁣As Luna is approaching 14 years old, I am overjoyed that she still wants to play dog sports. Not only did she want to play scent work, but she did it with her enthusiastic tap-dancy feet and even a few arroos while we waited in the staging areas for her turn. Despite quite a long time since our last trial, some light rain and very wet containers, Luna brought her A-game and earned her next two Q’s and her AKC Novice Containers title this weekend. And to top off the fun, she earned second place in both trials!🥈 Pending AKC confirmation, Luna can add SCN to her name. ⁣

Suffice to say I am so proud of Luna, and absolutely cherish the memories we made playing her favorite sport together again. ⁣
⁣
Special thanks to Dr Mason’s recommendation, Luna kept her energy and mobility up for the trial by using her Assisi Animal Health Loop Lounge before and after her runs. 🙏🏻⁣

So proud of my girls... we set out on another “adventure” very early yesterday morning, before sunrise, and arrived at a farm to try out AKC’s Farm Dog Certified test. It is similar to the Canine Good Citizen, but on a farm around various farm equipment and livestock. To say I’m elated that both girls passed and earned their FDC title is an understatement! Both girls did fantastic, and received lovely feedback from the judges. Judge Cindy praised Maera and her infectious joy and enthusiasm. And I love showing off what well bred Klee Kai with sound temperaments can do. ⁣

Thanks to NorAust for hosting, and keeping the event safe, and running very smoothly and efficiently!⁣

To the best of my knowledge, Luna and Maera are now the third and fourth Alaskan Klee Kai to earn the FDC title, alongside our friends Whimsy and Arwen.⁣

Little Luna continues to give me her all, no matter what tricks or sports we try... In February, weeks after recovering from major surgery, we decided to give AKC Rally a go, which meant learning a few new signs too.

While she may not be very brisk anymore, she humored me and played the “game,” earning her Rally Novice (RN) title, officially recorded by the AKC on her 13th birthday. What a lovely belated birthday surprise that was when we received her title certificate. 😍

Thank you, Luna, for continuing to try new things with me, and doing so with your enthusiasm and happy tap-dancy feet. 💜🌙

What a rollercoaster we’ve been on this past year. Every day together is a gift, and I am overjoyed to be celebrating your 13th birthday.

You continue to be eager to learn and work, even insisting on checking my food when you were technically still recovering from recent surgery. I love that you are always ready to go on new adventurers, make new friends, and learn new tricks. Luna, you are one of a kind, truly one in a million. ✨⁣

Despite a global pandemic, and some health scares, Luna proved once again her love for learning and working, she earned her Trick Dog Champion, Fitness Champion, and Proven Stunt Dog titles with Do More With Your Dog, also earning their level 3 Triple Crown award. She also earned her International Canine Ninja (dog parkour) title and level 2 Pet Dog Ambassador certificate. And, of course, she continues to check everything I eat to keep me safe.⁣

I’d move the moon and stars for little Luna, and when I found this ZippyPaws moon and stars burrow toy, I had to get it just for you. And an extra bonus toy, a crinkly little flat cow, just the perfect size. Who knows what the future has in store for us, but every day, every single moment together, will be treasured, and I look forward to many more adventures with the best dog in the world. 🥰 💜🌙⁣

Dog Parkour is a sport I’ve always wanted to try with my dogs, as it requires confidence (also helps build confidence in dogs), trust in the handler (spotting and helping the dog off some obstacles safely), proprioception and coordination. We recently participated in International Canine Events, Grand Prix Dog Shows' parkour called Canine Ninja. I’m so proud of Luna for earning their Level 1 International Canine Ninja (ICN) title!

Virtual (live video chat) trials can be just as much fun as in person trials, and often similarly nerve inducing for me. But it means I get to spend plenty of time with my pups learning new skills and refining our teamwork. Luna may be showing her age at times, but she’s always eager for her turn to play new games. I’m happy to share that Luna has earned her Novice through Proven Stunt Dog (NSD, OSD, PSD) titles, each with Honors, through Do More With Your Dog!

Whomever said “you can’t teach an older dog new tricks” doesn’t know little Miss Luna. Even at 12 years old, she is always ready to play any new game I ask her to try, and she loves to show off her skills. Doing cavallettis through a ladder she’s never seen before, no problem. Learn a new behavior chain on a single cue, sure thing! ⁣

Luna has always been my little Champion. Now I’m so very proud of my girl for becoming an official Champion Trick Dog with Do More With Your Dog!, joining some amazing friends with the same distinction. ⁣

Happiest 12th birthday to my most special little heart dog Luna. Soulful, social butterfly, eager to learn and work, empathetic, and always ready to go on new adventurers. She is one of a kind, and every day with her, whether we’re lounging, working, traveling or trialing, is a blessing.

In the last year Luna received recognition and certificates for previously earned nose work titles: her NACSW ORT, and her UKC PTM. And just a couple weekends ago she proved again her love for the sport and earned another title, her Detection Dog Endurance (DDE) with USCSS. Of course, Luna continues to insist on working, checking everything I eat for gluten.

We’ve been through so much together, and yet it hardly seems possible that you’re now 12 years old. I treasure every moment and every memory we share, and look forward to making so many more. 💜🌙

This year’s birthday pictures with adorable tiny party hats were inspired by our dear friend at Thurisia - Alaskan Klee Kai, and I had to include a very special toy. I couldn’t think of a more appropriate toy for Luna than her very own purple unicorn. 💜 🦄

What a great morning with my best girl. Luna competed in two scent work games, called Heap O’ Hides, at a USCSS Trial. It’s a game of endurance, can be any element or combination of elements (interior, exterior, containers, vehicles), and the team must find as many hides as possible in the allowed time. There are an unknown number of hides, 1 to 10, and the odors can be birch, anise, and/or clove. It’s been almost 4 years since we last played this game at the very first USCSS Trial, where she earned one Q. Today Luna earned two more Q’s for her Detection Dog Endurance (DDE) title! Not only did she search beautifully, she placed 1st 🥇and 3rd 🥉in the two searches, and she did so with her tap-dancy-happy feet and a big smile. At almost 12 years old, she still loves to play the search game. And I love having her as my teammate. 💜🌙

Luna recently got mail... when she passed her Odor Recognition Tests in NACSW several years ago, it was not yet a title. With the newer rule updates, passing all three ORTs became a title. Today’s is celebrating her accomplishments from 2012 and being the first Klee Kai to earn the ORT title.

Happiest 11th birthday Luna! I’m so thankful for another year of memories we’ve made together.

She earned her advanced and performer Trick Dog titles (TKP) last summer, and has had several opportunities to play her favorite nose work game over the last few months, earning her USCSS Novice Containers, Vehicle, Interior and, much to my surprise as I had lost track of her previously earned Q’s, her Exterior title, thus completing her Detection Dog Novice (DDN) title two weekends ago! Yep, she earned three titles in one day. That was a wonderful birthday surprise as I just received her title certificates today.

My heart dog continues to keep me safe checking all my food for gluten, and even did a night alert for migraine recently.

I treasure every day with this one-of-a-kind little dog, so of course I had to get her a unicorn toy for her birthday. Looking forward to many more fun adventures and memories. 💜🌙

Luna had a fantastic time this weekend playing her favorite game nosework at a US Canine Scent Sports trial. She qualified in four out of six searches, surprised me by placing 4th with a time of 26 seconds in one of the exterior searches (in a group of super fast dogs), and earned her last leg for her Interior Novice title! Luna is always so happy to play this game, and we received some very nice compliments from the judge. I love her consistent (and insistent) “look at me” alert behavior. 😊💜🌙

Happy Gotcha Day to my 💜, my little soulmate, my first adventure pup always happy and up for anything, my protector keeping me healthy and safe from accidental gluten ingestion.
