As the Wheel Turns.....Lammas, August 1st (AKA Lughnasadh) is the celebration of this first, Grain Harvest, a time for gathering in and giving thanks for abundance. The word 'Lammas' is derived from 'loaf mass' and is indicative of how central and honored the first grain and the first loaf is of the harvesting cycle.

This is a time of change and shift. Active growth is slowing down and the darker days of winter and reflection are beckoning...August harvest represents the ripe corn of this year's harvest a the seed which drops back deep into the dark earth, hidden throughout the winter, and re-appears in the spring as new growth. This is the deep core meaning of Lammas ......the fullness and fulfillment of the present harvest already holds at its very heart the seed of all future harvest.

Lammas or Lughnasadh is probably the least celebrated Sabbat because we are so disconnected from the grain harvest in our modern culture. At its core it is a celebration of first harvest. This is an opportunity to reflect on what you are currently reaping in your life from the seeds you planted back at the winter & spring solstice. What will you birth?

Cherokee Women and Their Important Roles:
Women in the Cherokee society were equal to men. They could earn the title of War Women and sit in councils as equals. This privilege led an Irishman named Adair who traded with the Cherokee from 1736-1743 to accuse the Cherokee of having a "petticoat government".
Clan kinship followed the mother's side of the family. The children grew up in the mother's house, and it was the duty of an uncle on the mother's side to teach the boys how to hunt, fish, and perform certain tribal duties. The women owned the houses and their furnishings. Marriages were carefully negotiated, but if a woman decided to divorce her spouse, she simply placed his belongings outside the house. Cherokee women also worked hard. They cared for the children, cooked, tended the house, tanned skins, wove baskets, and cultivated the fields. Men helped with some household chores like sewing, but they spent most of their time hunting.
Cherokee girls learned by example how to be warriors and healers. They learned to weave baskets, tell stories, trade, and dance. They became mothers and wives, and learned their heritage. The Cherokee learned to adapt, and the women were the core of the Cherokee.

Local shelters are filled to the brim with baby kittens. If you find one/some in the heat, please consider fostering until a home or rescue can help. Here's some great advice: Wanted to share this info that a rescue friend posted... thanks Mitzi!!
We are still receiving messages daily on little kittens being found and kittens with eye issues. This is how you can help until space opens up here at CCAS! 🐈🐾🐈🐾🐈
Everyone is finding little kittens riddled with fleas. If kittens are under 2 pounds, we don’t do anything for fleas but a bath in Dawn. But please do so, especially if their gums are turning white. Otherwise, chemicals are too toxic for them if not at 2 lbs.
However if you find a kitten that is lethargic, please give it a tad of karo syrup immediately and then a few more times an hour to get its blood sugar back up and keep it on a heating source before you give it a bath. Because no matter how warm or lukewarm your water is that you are bathing it in, a bath will drop their body temperature just a tad and that might be all it takes to slip over the rainbow bridge.
Kittens with goopy eyes should be cleaned with warm water and given terramycin ointment in their eyes 3 times a day. You can find it at Tractor Supply.
We can all do our part to help. Because most likely when you find one it will take days to find someone to help you with it and what you do for it in those couple of days could mean life or death. And please DO NOT GIVE IT COWS MILK.
If it won't eat canned kitten food, you can give it chicken flavored baby food or kitten formula depending on age.
If you find a litter of kittens under 3-4 weeks of age, leave them alone! If they are quiet and healthy they have a mama. If they are sick and screaming, most likely they don’t. Know when to intervene and when not to.

A great recipe for your next trip to the farmer's market.

✨Mediterranean Veggie Delight! ✨

Simplify your mealtime with this quick and delicious Mediterranean Vegetable Pie. No fuss, just flavor! 🍅🧀

Ingredients:
• 2 cups potatoes, diced
• 1 cup broccoli florets
• 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
• 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
• 1 cup shredded mozzarella
• 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
• 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
• 3 eggs
• Salt & pepper

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Boil potatoes till slightly tender.
3. Whisk 3 eggs, add salt & pepper.
4. Combine potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes, feta, mozzarella, olives, and basil in a baking dish.
5. Pour whisked eggs over.
6. Drizzle olive oil for flavor!
7. Bake for 25-30 mins until golden brown.
