We are really pleased with the progression of our Olive egg laying hens. The far right is the original blue and the left is our latest colour from a 3rd generation cross, theyβre getting darker with each cross.
We have a few Olive Egger chicks left and will have more hatching in a few weeks if youβd like to raise your own chicks π£

As you can see Peter the Bourbon Red Turkey is really proud of his offspring and is already teaching his son to show off π
We are keeping the trio in the video but have just hatched some more and have a few gorgeous 4 days old poults available.
These will make great pets, even if only until Christmas (but hopefully that wonβt be the case π€π» π), and if theyβre anything like their dad they will be really calm and friendly.

Guinea Fowl are amazing alarm birds and will warn you if anything/anyone is around. However, this does mean they are very noisy so they are not suitable for urban settings π€«
They have a reputation for being a bit wild and flighty but we find if you have them from keets (chicks) they are much calmer and friendlier.
We only have a few available and not likely to have anymore so please order asap if you would like any.
The current group were hatched on 10/5/24 so will need heat and chick crumb.
If you have a broody hen it is ideal to raise them under her, she will teach them chicken habits and make them really manageable.

βWhy keep quailβ
π€ Quail make really interesting little pets.
π€ They need less space than other poultry
π€ They are really inquisitive and can become very friendly.
π€ They are cost effective egg producers.
π€ They start to lay at just 8-12 weeks old.
π€ They lay amazing, tasty eggs!
π©βπ« Quail Information
π₯ Quail can be very productive, capable of laying 230 eggs a year.
π¦
Quail spend their time on the ground and generally only fly up vertically when frightened! They donβt generally use ramps so everything for them needs to be at ground level and they donβt use perches.
π³ Quail love hiding under things so give them plenty of cover to go under - put branches in their run, plant pots on their side and things to hide in and under.
π± Quail need a high protein layers feed of around 18-20% protein and eat around 15g each day so are very cost effective to feed.
π€ They live around 2-4 years.
π°οΈ You will need lots of time just to sit and watch them do their quail things! They are fascinating to watch and are always very busy.
π Quail are obsessed with dust bathing, pop a tray of fine sand in with them for hours of entertainment.

βΌοΈπ₯We have lots of sweet little quails ready now βΌοΈπ₯ βWhy keep quailβ π€ Quail make really interesting little pets. π€ They need less space than other poultry π€ They are really inquisitive and can become very friendly. π€ They are cost effective egg producers. π€ They start to lay at just 8-12 weeks old. π€ They lay amazing, tasty eggs! π©βπ« Quail Information π₯ Quail can be very productive, capable of laying 230 eggs a year. π¦ Quail spend their time on the ground and generally only fly up vertically when frightened! They donβt generally use ramps so everything for them needs to be at ground level and they donβt use perches. π³ Quail love hiding under things so give them plenty of cover to go under - put branches in their run, plant pots on their side and things to hide in and under. π± Quail need a high protein layers feed of around 18-20% protein and eat around 15g each day so are very cost effective to feed. π€ They live around 2-4 years. π°οΈ You will need lots of time just to sit and watch them do their quail things! They are fascinating to watch and are always very busy. π Quail are obsessed with dust bathing, pop a tray of fine sand in with them for hours of entertainment. ππ Broodiness can be an issue at the moment (or at any time of the year!). Itβs always best to stop your hens being broody as they will sit for weeks, get very run down and are a target for red mite. This video shows 2 of our broody hens, you can see the distinctive puffed up stance and hear the broody cluck sound they make. We will post tomorrow ideas on how to stop the broodiness ππ
After the hot weather please be extra vigilant for red mite. As you can see from this video, red mite are not always red! Immature mites or mites who havenβt had a blood feed are cream coloured and you can see how tiny they are π±
