Good morning Julie! It was Ozzie’s 1st birthday, so I wanted to share a few photos from his birthday party with you. Ozzie is 46lbs and super friendly. He loves his human big brother and spends his days either at work with me or at doggy daycare to play with his friends. He loves the beach, going for walks, and playing in the water. (Look at that gorgeous silky coat !!)

Creating a dog breed is like putting together a "dish" for dinner. You have the basics for the recipe but then after sampling it, you know that it needs a "little more of this" or a "little less of that". With each litter here it is like that. Two dogs were put together with "goals" to achieve. But with creating a dog breed you have to wait "years" before seeing the results of your adding a "bit of this and a little more of that". This photo is the head of a recent puppy of ours where we intentionally had a goal of wanting a more square nose tip, a wider nose, more distance between the ears on the top of the head, a correct proportions for nose length in relation to the entire head length. And this goal was achieved with this puppy. A great success! So WHY wasn't this BEAUTIFUL pup selected to carry on all these wonderful head traits into the next generation of our Regal Miniature Golden Retrievers ? Because his activity level was higher than we would like to see. We were not expecting that. When we decide which puppies/dogs to select for our breeding program, we don't just choose them by "looks". We choose by health, temperament, and OVERALL conformation - all 3 of these have to be in sync. It is not just a perfect "nose" or just a perfect "tail set". So many people "breeding" right now are just "producing puppies" and not taking the art of breeding or breed creation seriously. What I have seen pop up in the last 5 years are MARKETING businesses, not serious dog breeders.

Being able to raise puppies that bring people so much happiness is the best ! Hi Julie, I just wanted to tell you that Zoey (from polly/cody) is the sweetest, most wonderful puppy we could have ever asked for. She’s doing so well. She’s so smart, she’s doing incredibly well with potty training, learning to come when called. It’s amazing how far she’s come in just a week. So friendly and happy with every single person she meets. We couldn’t be happier with her.

After getting a pup in 2019 from us from a GiGi litter, River grew into the sweetest dog (and gorgeous) and so this wonderful family wanted another Mini Retriever from us and so adopted one of our 1 year old dogs that we decided wasn't quite right for our goals, so she never did have any puppies for us. "Sunny" is in the back, the newest member of their family, 32-34 lbs.

Veterinarians across the U.S. are issuing warnings about a mysterious and potentially fatal canine illness that has emerged, primarily affecting the respiratory system of dogs.

The outbreak, initially identified in Willamette Valley, Oregon, in early August, has raised concerns among dog owners, prompting health authorities to investigate the increasing number of cases.

Stephen Kochis, the chief medical officer of the Oregon Humane Society (OHS), discussed the severity of the situation with Newsweek. The Oregon Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with OHS and the Oregon Health Authority, has documented several cases of canine infection respiratory disease complex.

Some instances have escalated into acute pneumonia, leading to fatalities within a matter of days. The symptoms initially resemble those of kennel cough, a common airway infection in dogs.

The rise in cases has surpassed typical infection expectations for the fall and winter seasons, with particular concentration in Salem and Portland in the Willamette Valley.

The challenge in dealing with this illness lies in its complex and mysterious nature, making it difficult to diagnose. Kochis emphasized the disease's deviation from typical symptoms, observing that a late diagnosis may result in a less optimistic prognosis.

The investigation is complicated by canine patients testing positive for multiple pathogens in respiratory panel screenings. Reports on Nov. 9 from Central Oregon Daily suggest the disease resists antibiotic treatment, posing a challenge in addressing the outbreak.

Despite the seriousness of the illness, Kochis urged dog owners not to panic, stating that there is no indication of a widespread outbreak at this time. He emphasized that a new respiratory infectious agent has yet to be identified.

While acknowledging that there is much to learn about the disease, Kochis advised dog owners to seek veterinary attention if their dogs exhibit respiratory disease symptoms such as persistent coughing, sneezing, or difficulty breathing. Until a symptomatic dog receives veterinary assessment and treatment, isolation from other dogs is recommended.

In a related development, reports from various parts of the country, including Idaho, indicate a surge in cases of dogs with similar symptoms. Wendy Brown, an Idaho resident, shared her experience with "Good Morning America," highlighting the coughing, lethargy, and other concerning signs exhibited by her three golden retrievers, reported ABC News.

The mystery illness is reportedly highly contagious, with symptoms overlapping with those of kennel cough. Amanda Cavanagh, section head of the urgent care service at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, emphasized the importance of immediate veterinary attention for dogs displaying consistent coughing.

She, like Kochis, also recommended isolating coughing dogs from others and maintaining the isolation for two weeks after symptoms subside to prevent further spread of the illness.

This family worked with a flight nanny service to have their puppy flown to Florida. This is their 2nd pup from us. "Benny is about 37lbs now, and he’s a very loving boy! He loves snuggles more than anything, and he hugs me like a human every time I come home. He fit in perfectly with our 3 year old Rottweiler and although we will always miss Bruce (our first mini golden we got from you who passed away), Benny has done a great job healing all of our hearts. Benny and our Rottweiler love to play all day, and snuggle up together at night. He has been a great addition to our family. Thank you for another beautiful and wonderful pup!

For learning purposes: Arlo's family has sad news that they want to share:

Hi Julie, our dear Arlo (Basil x Momo, 1/7/2023) who we purchased from you back in April unfortunately had to be put down earlier this week. Our family is beyond devastated, angry, and heartbroken. He was the sweetest puppy and absolutely everything we didn't know we needed.

He developed mild symptoms at the end of July/beginning of August and was misdiagnosed with kennel cough and later panosteitis. He wasn't improving so our vet referred us to the U of M where he was diagnosed with Blastomycosis - a nasty fungal infection that dogs (and humans) can get from the soil/dead leaves/etc., if they live in the Midwest or East. I had never heard of this before. They did everything they could but his young undeveloped immune system couldn't keep up with the fungal die-off. I'm spreading the word on Facebook to try to help raise awareness for Blastomycosis and hope my efforts will save someone's dog in the future so they don't have to go through what we are going through.

We are so happy he was a part of our lives and loved him hard the short time he was here.

Dear Julie, I have been going to write to let you know that ‘Stella’, my tiny pup I purchased in May is P E R F E C T. Of course! A credit to you and her breeding. I am often asked about your name -Regal Kennels out of Anoka - and I tell others that this is my THIRD pup from you. My Stella is fawned over!

Funny story: I pulled up one of your videos and Stella was on my lap. She heard your voice and her eyes were glued to the screen. She was very excited to hear your voice !

Thank you Julie. Thank you.

Marley (cream) is a purebred Golden Retriever that was born here and she is a "retired" dog from our place. Although she didn't really "retire" from anything, as she never ever had a litter ! And her "red" friend is one of our larger "mini's" that is retired and living the dream.

How come I can't retire and get adopted !!!

(note to readers: dogs love to have another dog in the home with them)
