Don’t create over-excitement about going for a walk. The ritual starts the moment you first think about going out for a walk. Your dog knows habits and rituals when you’re about to take it outside. The dog will become excited just at the presence of a leash. Don’t call your dog in a high, excited voice, or allow jumping and other hysteric behaviors.

It’s important to wait until your dog’s mind is calm before you put the leash on. The walk and the leash going on is a reward to the dog. Remember, we want to reinforce calm behaviors, especially at the beginning of our walk.

Try this: go grab your dog’s leash. When your dog notices just walk over to it’s bed/crate and wait. Be patient, your dog will jump on its bed/crate. Wait for the dog to sit or lay down, after it does calmly pet it then put the leash on.

This is a feeding drill with my girl P. This video is just under three minutes. I didn’t have any plan in mind. I just wanted to fulfill her and stimulate her mind. Dog training doesn’t have to be time consuming or arduous at all. Take a few minutes to do a feeding drill with one of your dog’s meals today!

If you want your dog to be calm in the crate, this video is for you‼️ Most dogs who are not familiar with the crate will try to explode out as soon as you open it. Don’t allow your dog to do that, instead teach them that when they are relaxed that’s when they can come out. By applying this method shown in this video, you are taking the first steps to helping your dog become more comfortable with being in the crate. Akila and Scottie are two well socialized dogs. As we see in this video, they are both sniffing each others rear ends which is a great sign that they will get along. Some dogs greet other dogs by approaching them nose to nose which could be very dangerous depending on the dogs temperament. It’s not always easy, but do your best to put your dog in a situation where it greets a new dog by sniffing the rear end. This type of interaction will be best for all the parties involved. Clip of a play session that Akila and I had tonight. I like to use play to make my dogs sharp at their obedience. Think of the toy as a squirrel or dog. If I practice first, when we see these actual distractions it’ll be easier for my dog to control her impulses. Enjoy!

Here is a video of Scottie as a puppy learning “place” through free shaping. Free shaping is done by holding food in your hand and allowing your dog to offer different behaviors in order to get rewarded. The goal is for Scottie to get all four paws on the place bed and when he does, he hears “yes” and gets rewarded after. Free shaping serves as mental stimulation for your dog so we HIGHLY suggest doing this drill.
