Do you know how dog attacks and bites happen? Well this could be one way it could happen!

If someone’s grandad comes home and says I called him bad mannered I did.

So my dog is reactive and on a leader for a reason. He had a lovely walk working on recall.

Anyway near the end of the walk I purposely went far and wide around two people sat on a bench with their dogs. The black spaniel ran at jasper who is scared of dogs he is nervous hence why he wears a nervous sign. So I asked the man to get his dog back please. The dog ignored him and ran round and at Jasper several times. Which I then said your dog shouldn’t be off the leader if it has no recall, he proceeded to tell me to shut up and referred to my dogs bad behaviour, which yes he is reactive and on the leader for a reason because I am a responsible owner. After he told me to shut up I said it’s just the height of bad manners to not put your dog on a leader if you see another one on a leader. He proceeded to say his dog has recall but his dog wanted to see my dog, well not all dogs want your dog to see them if your dog had recall it would come back in any situation. If it doesn’t then your dog does not have a good enough recall to be off the leader.

Dogs running in Jasper face makes him go backwards in his training and we could of had lots of improvement in a month then all it takes is one person with a dog off the leader with no recall to set him back.

If Jasper wanted to he could have bitten this dog in his space and then I bet the owner would have wanted a vet bill paid even though he was at fault. One day he may bite due to one to many dogs running at him. Ever heard of prodding the bear saying?? That just comes to mind.

Just food for thought with dogs who run at others dogs if you see a dog on a leader for your own dogs safety put yours back on one. You do not know the reason that dog is on its leader. Little rant of the day.

😍😍 LETS TALK PUPPIES 😍😍

This is the time of year where everyone thinks it’s amazing time to buy their kiddies a fluffy puppy ❤️❤️ let’s remember dogs are for life and don’t buy your child a puppy if you don’t expect to take full responsibility for every aspect of its care.

Any way the post is meant to address grooming needs. Many breeders or friends tell puppy owners OMG you can’t get it groomed till 6 months! WRONG! It can be so detrimental to a puppy waiting til 6 months then expecting a full hair cut!!

I recommend 2-4 puppy grooms during the age of 12 weeks to 6 month ish before their full groom. Now here for the myth! You may hear it will damage the coat cutting it before 6 months, it’s wrong. You can definitely cut the coat before 6 months, however it is usually around that mark before the puppy is ready and comfortable work the equipment to mentally be able to cope with a full cut.

So for any one buying nice fluffy puppy’s they need grooming as soon as they can go for walks! Also they will need a schedule of 4-8 weeks depending on their hair cut and how well you maintain it! Now here comes the downfall it’s not cheap to maintain a fluffy coat with regularly grooming poodle crosses start from £38 and some places they start from £50. Please consider this before getting a fluffy breed!!! They are beautiful but they take alot of caring for their coats to remain like a teddy bear ❤️❤️❤️

Fabulous advice

Been having loads of enquiries for puppy training to start in January with all different breeds.

Here's a list of things to consider when deciding on getting a puppy (please add more friendly advice for new puppy owners in the comments - this list is not exhausted and is in no particular order):

- Why are you getting another dog? If it's to be company for your first dog, this in my opinion isn't the right reason e.g. separation anxiety very rarely is sorted with a 2nd dog. In addition, you don't want the 2nd dog bonding more with the first dog than with you.

-What equipment will be necessary? E.g. crates etc.
-Have you got room in the house for necessary equipment?
- Have you got suitable flooring in the house for a dog? What fabric is the sofa made from - easily cleaned?
-Is the car big enough? Can the dog at full size be secured/ crated in the car?
- Have you checked with landlord or house deeds that you can have a dog?

-Who will look after the pup when it's fully grown if you go on holiday? E.g. big dogs with elderly relatives might not work and boarding your dog is about £30 per day (£420 for a 2 week holiday)
- If you needed to go into hospital or worse what would be the arrangements for your dog?

- Does the breed require owners with previous experience? How much experience do you have?
- How much does the breed shed hair? How regularly do you need to hoover? Groom? E.g. dog grooms cost between £30 and £60 per cut for poodle crosses, every 6 to 8 weeks
- What medical issues are typical for the breed? How much are vet bills linked to these conditions? Does the insurance company cover it?
- What is the life expectancy for the breed?
- What was the breed bred for? What activities/ training might you need to do to fulfill their natural instincts safely?
- How energetic is the breed? Is it from working lines or show lines?
- How much is Pet insurance for the breed?
- How much is it to feed the pup once it's fully grown?
- What was the temperament of the Mother and Father dog when you met them? Did you see them out of the breeder's home environment?
- Have parent dogs been health checked? E.g. hip scored especially in larger breeds

- Have you got the time to walk and train the pup? Have you practised waking up 1.5 hours earlier than usual e.g. to walk and feed?
- What rules will all family members need to stick to?
- Who is responsible for the dog? In my opinion, in a family, everyone needs to be responsible, not just left down to one person.
- Who will be walking the dog? Teenagers say they'll take responsibility but will they in the cold and the rain? Would teenagers/ children cope by themselves on a walk in an emergency situation e.g. a dog fight?
- Does the extended family/ friends like dogs? Or will you end up with them avoiding visiting your house because of the dog?
