We are still seeking homes for these brothers, currently located in Romania. Rescued as pups, they are now 2 years of age, and are microchipped, fully vaccinated, and neutered. They will be blood tested prior to travel, and are looking for families of their own. They have never had the chance to be adopted, so shares would be a help.

Pretty, young girl is waiting for a freedom ticket. She was off impound at Animal Control, several days ago. She takes a few minutes to realize you are a friend, and then she just wants to be a companion. She's lonely in her kennel, hoping for someone to take her home. Won't you give her a chance?
Please share.

3 lovely brothers are waiting. Each waiting for someone to say they have room in their heart and home for one of these boys. They are chipped, vaccinated and neutered, and now all that's left, is to leave the shelter for real homes.
One of these handsome boys could be your new companion. Please take a closer look, and please share. 🐾❤️

***ADOPTED PENDING HOMECHECK.***

Courtesy post, PLEASE SHARE:
This sweet girl is estimated to be 6 - 9 months old. Impounded by Animal Control as a stray and unclaimed. She is lab-ish size and energetic, but part of this is simply excitement at being out of a run. She is a bit shy...for like, three minutes! Then she wants so much to have scratches and attention! She seems like the typical - got a puppy, didn't teach her anything- now she's older and boisterous so they dumped her - kind of stray. She is a lovely young girl that will be so worth the time to help her learn.
She does not appear to have been spayed, so adopter would need to agree to have this done. Extremely thin when found, but has gained a bit of weight while on impound.
We have met this sweetheart, and she will be a wonderful companion to someone.
She is currently located in Ontario. Please email if interested.

Every dog rescued is special, and has a story. Some are extra memorable, either because it was a very compelling story, or a difficult rescue or placement. Alfred was rescued 10 years ago today. He was a mioritic shepherd, and the biggest dog we ever placed, bigger even than Altan/Hank, the mastiff from Turkey.
Alfred was already a senior, and had spent at least a few years of his life on the streets of Brasov, Romania, and even though he was the most gentle dog, people were afraid because of his size, and would throw rocks at him. When we saw him sleeping on frozen concrete, and heard his story, we knew a huge dog like this didn't have much of a chance. Bianca Filip collected him and prepared him for us, and our amazing friend and Laika Fund foster and adopter, Michelle, agreed to foster him in Nottingham. He made the trip to England, and Michelle's family foster failed big time. Alfred was so wonderful, they couldn't let him go, and he TRULY won the doggie lottery when they made him a permenant part of their family.
This darling old man was amazing. I was able to visit Michelle's family and meet him in person, and it was like having a well behaved BEAR on a leash! 😄
Alfred had several wonderful years, even going on seaside holidays every summer. He has since passed on, but no one who knew this sweet dog, will ever forget him. ❤️

We might not be able to change the whole world, but we can help change the world for one dog at a time. ❤️

We first saw Keeva one year ago today. She and her babies were in a freezing, abandoned barn in Romania, hungry and hopeless. We began looking for somewhere for them to go, and some very kind ladies stepped up and did an amazing job. They found homes for the puppies, and prepared Keeva for travel to Canada.
In June, she flew with three other dogs to Amsterdam, then Toronto, and went to her forever home, the cold barn exchanged for warm beds and the love of a family.

We currently have three lovely brothers in Romania, (click link at the bottom) looking for their own happy endings, please share their story to help make them happen, and if you are considering a new companion, contact us.

Happy New Year everyone!
‼️‼️HELP NEEDED - PLEASE SHARE‼️‼️
Just hours into 2024 and we are going to ask for your help, to share these sweet boys.
We were contacted by a friend in Romania, to see if we could help. These three brothers were rescued two years ago, from down an old well. Villagers had tried to get rid of the babies, who numbered four at the time. A kind girl retrieved them, but her parents would not allow her to keep them at home. The babies were subjected to several more days of torture from the village, culminating with them being tossed down an old well. Our friends, who had been trying to find help for them, immediately sent people to get them out, and took them.
They found a clinic to send the puppies to, and unfortunately, one succumbed to the torture they had endured. They then managed to send them to Bucharest with a sponsor. This is where they have been for two years, unable to find homes because there are so many. The sponsor subsequently abandoned them, saying they are ”unlucky dogs”, and these beautiful boys do not even have names. We are their last hope, so we are appealing to everyone to please share, and help us find adoptive homes, or a reputable rescue that would be willing to work with us to place them.
They are a bit timid, but very sweet, neutered and vaccinated. We will be fundraising for their flight to Canada, as soon as we have places for them. This is doable friends. We can not save every dog, but one at a time, we will save those that we can. Please help us to make this the year these brothers get happy endings!

Rescue can be soul destroying. Some people throw them away and dont care, and the caring people who can't look the other way, step in to help another, even when it's next to impossible. It isn't just enough that someone is feeding him. There is treatment for tvt, but without it, he will die. K9 Aid will help the rescuer get the mediical attention he needs, and find him a better life than this. Please help with a donation. Every dollar helps. 🙏❤️

‼️‼️PLEASE SHARE‼️‼️
This is a strange post. In more than 10 years as a rescue, we have never posted anything like this, and we are sorry to be sharing this information publicly, but we are extremely concerned for this dog.
Many of you will remember Maggie, who was so afraid in Pallady public shelter in Bucharest, that she would not look at us. We had her in foster four years before someone adopted her and she finally flew to Canada at the end of 2018.
The last we heard in 2020, Maggie was doing very well. Then all communication ceased. Our adoption agreement requires an annual update, and the adopters have disappeared. Facebook accounts abandoned, phone numbers disconnected. More than a year ago, we made contact with relatives, who told us that ALL the dogs except one small one, were euthanized when they moved, due to being "old and sick." This does not make sense to us, and if Maggie has indeed been euthanized, then we are entitled to relevant information. Whether Maggie is alive or dead, the adoption agreement was breached. The people who contributed thousands of dollars to care for and transport her, have a right to know what has happened.
We have been assured repeatedly that the adopter would be in touch. There are multiple ways they can do this, but to date we have heard nothing.
After trying to locate Maggie for more than a year, we requested that via the relative, they either return Maggie to us, or if euthanized, we be provided with vet info, date euthanized, and written permission to speak with the vet. We have still received no information as to Maggie's whereabouts. This would not have required them to have direct contact with us, if that is their choice.
Several months have again passed with no contact, despite us stating we were prepared to post publically, so we are appealing to anyone who may know the adopter, to get in touch with us privately. We have chosen not to post all the information we have, except to say the last known location is Peterborough, Ontario.
Adopters are Catherine Dawson and Greg Best, although we have reason to believe they are using other names. The former was active in rescue transport until a couple of years ago.
We are aware that the profiles for these individuals are still on facebook, but both accounts have been inactive for the last couple of years.
If you have any information, or are in contact with these people, please private message, or email [email protected]
We are solely concerned with finding Maggie, or the truth of what has happened to her, and have been more than patient.
We will not be allowing public comments, and will be happy to remove this post once we have found Maggie.

“Laika” ~ a tribute to the Soviet space dog, by award winning Russian/Israeli fantasy artist Jenny Schukin. As it has great meaning for us, we were so pleased to be able to purchase this painting (personally) a few years ago.

66 years Laika. We will never forget.

66 years Laika. We will never forget.

November 3, 2022.
65 years ago today, Laika, a small stray from the streets of Moscow, who had been trained for a mission which they knew would ultimately kill her, was launched into space aboard Sputnik 2.
She lived mere hours, succumbing alone, to heat and stress, despite the decades long claim that she had lived several days. The capsule containing her body, continued to orbit some 2570 times, before eventually falling back to earth and burning up on re entry five months later.
We learned absolutely nothing from this experiment and her intentional, brutal death, but we will never forget the little dog with whom our rescue shares a name. 💔

***Update - Foster placement found.

Another young dog impounded and unclaimed near North Bay. This handsome young man, possibly a Staffie mix, is well behaved, and looking for a home of his own. He is on limited time, so please share for rescue or foster placement. He appears to be in good health, but will require neuter, vaccines and a microchip.
We are willing to help fundraise the costs if someone can save him.
Please message us at [email protected]

Look who is safe and will be looking for a family! ❤️
Many thanks to everyone who shared and cross posted. Poppy is out of the shelter and has had her initial vetting before going to foster. Health check, vaccines, microchip, internal and external parasite treatments. She has a clean bill of health, is estimated to be 8 months old, weighs 40 lbs, and is VERY sweet.
She was very well behaved for the vet, and the clinic staff loved her.
Her spay surgery will be booked shortly.
If you are interested in adopting Poppy, please message us at [email protected]

Tuesday, October 10. 🆘️🆘️🆘️🆘️LAST CALL FOR THIS PRETTY GIRL. TIMES UP.🆘️🆘️🆘️🆘️

‼️‼️‼️UPDATE - NOW CONSIDERED URGENT‼️‼️‼️
Adopter, foster or rescue placement needed immediately.

Courtesy post, please share:
Beautiful, healthy, young mixed breed girl, medium size - approximately 45 lbs, for adoption at an animal control shelter in the North Bay area. Came in as a stray and sadly, was not claimed. Friendly once she knows you, does not appear to have been walked on leash before, but she’s learning. This little lady just needs someone to spend a bit of time teaching her the things that someone else neglected to.
If you would like more information, please contact us here, or at [email protected] and we will connect you with the shelter.
