Just for silly goofy fun on my personal page I started posting “Summer on a Plate.” It basically consists of me using in season produce to create a dish that looks, smells, and tastes like summer. 🍅🍓🍉🍑

Hey! If you haven’t met me yet, I’m Michaela. I’m the owner, and I am learning as I go - so cut me some slack 🤪

🌊 I grew up on Long Island, but you might not guess that since I don’t have much of an accent.

🐶My first words ever included my dog’s name. It was a complete sentence: “Hi Houdie.” Whenever anyone would walk into the front door, that’s the first thing they’d say.

🎸I love 60-70s rock and all things from that time period. It’s important to not I do not mean disco. Think more Rolling Stones.

🐓 I went to USC (the real USC ) for undergrad and moved to Charlotte shortly after graduating.

📸 I’ve worked as a graphic designer, photographer, and a marketing director. Working on the creative for the business is what I love doing most but don’t have as much time as I would like these days.

🤍During the pandemic, my husband and I moved back to NY to be with my mom while she was sick. My mom passed in late 2020. As many of you know, she founded this company ❤️. I strongly felt this company was something special and that I needed to continue growing it.

🧺I love meeting people at the markets. I’m sorry if I forget your name, but I always remember your dog’s name if I meet them!

Today is about celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of women past and present. 💗

My mom started this company in 2011 because she wanted to make a difference in the pet food industry. I truly believe my mom was one of the pioneers in changing this industry. She won a few local awards, but I don’t think that was enough credit for the amount of effort and education that went into creating this product and turning it into a business. Selling to customers is one thing, but the education component is equally as important. She was great at both.

So as we celebrate International Women’s Day, honor those who’ve come before us and the women around you. Continue to support, uplift, and empower women in all their endeavors.

The most common question I get asked when I’m at a market: Which treats do the dogs like best? 🐕
This is such a hard question to answer! For one, I don’t know your dog, nor what they like or don’t like.😵‍💫 BUT if you’re forcing me to answer, I usually say liver. I feel like a lot of people tend to shy away from liver because they think it’s weird or that it smells. I promise it’s not weird and it doesn’t smell bad. Liver provides so many wonderful benefits to your dogs!
• Rich in vitamins A and D
• Offers essential fatty acids
• Iron rich
• Lower in fat than muscle meat (if that’s important for your dog’s diet)
And many more benefits I encourage you to research!

Today would have been my mom's 67th birthday. She'd probably yell at me for telling you, but if you knew her you have to admit she always looked 10 years younger than her age.

Sometimes I don't think my mom was human. She possessed a strength unlike any other. These film strips are of my mom and her first dog, Nicky. I've heard many stories about Nicky’s escapades over the years, but this is a great one. ⤵

Nicky had gotten out of the yard once again. Apparently, he was very good at this. While on one of his great adventures, my mom went out searching for him when she heard tires screech and a dog yelp. Nicky was hit by a car and stuck under the tire. My mom ran up, yelling at the driver to move the car and the man froze. So, Mom lifted the back left tire to free him. Nicky got up and walked off like nothing had happened.

I like sharing stories about my mom on here sometimes to keep her memory alive. I hope you all don't mind.

Our Story

Talk Treats To Me is a family owned and operated business founded in 2011 by Margaret and Bruce McDonough. As life long animal lovers we started making our high quality pet treats for our own pets so we could be assured they were safer and healthier. Over time, we began to share these gourmet pet treats with friends and family and found their pets loved them too. Our homemade and ultra healthy treats became so popular that we decided to open Talk Treats To Me. Our mission is to share our creations with discerning and health conscious pet caretakers. Now it’s time, to share them with lucky dogs, cats, and other pets everywhere! Margaret, Bruce and Saoirse After the loss of our beloved yellow lab, Saoirse, both Margaret and Bruce became committed to providing a safer alternative in pet treats. Margaret, a retired caterer with a deep love for healthy and clean foods. What started as a simple product idea, developed more for personal purposes, has grown leaps and bounds into a fast growing company. We take great pride in sharing Talk Treats To Me with you and your most precious companions, your pets. Both Margaret and Bruce continue to operate the business and have fallen in love with the joy our treats bring our customer's pets.
