I keep forgetting to post an Avery update. I just needed to bring her in the vets office to magically fix her. Joking, of course. I videoed her before I left the house, and she wouldn't use the leg and struggled to walk. I put her down when I got there so I could use the restroom, and she immediately walked better. You can still see the headtilt and the arching in her neck. Dr. Yates said she can not have a nerve impingement since she's using the leg. The muscles would've trophies also. He said he could see a slight difference in size in the legs. She's been licking her front feet, which she previously did not. He believes she has dissociative pain. She believes she's hurting but is no longer actually in pain. He started her on amantadine. That has made a huge difference. She's back at the baby gate, whining to get out. She's still on crate rest until the next appointment. She hasn't cried in pain since she started the new med.
She needs more chews and potty pads.

Vet is Resurge Veterinary Surgical Specialists and Rehabilitation . Their number is 985-888-1059. The account is alissa johnson.
Avery has been on crate rest for 3 weeks. She had been making improvements and would cry to go outside. This week, her pain is worse, and she doesn't want to move much. She cries if I get too close. She has an appointment on Monday with the neurologist, but I need to call ASAP to leave a deposit to hold the spot. The deposit is $100. The total estimate is $400.

I believe she sadly needs surgery. I'll speak to the regular vet today to see if she can get better pain control until her appointment.

The vet believes he had another stroke and this time it went towards his heart.
He was such a happy dog. He was an example of why you shouldn't breed for size. He had a torn ligament in his knee when we got him at 9 months. He was born with dislocated hips. He was diagnosed with two heart conditions at 2. He had horrible ibd. He couldn't eat anything but his prescription food.
He loved his stuffed animals. He would howl with them in his mouth. He loved hanging his head out the sunroof. He never met a stranger. He led many to believe akitas were a friendly dog.
Many have followed Hiccup's story , here is an update on his progress! We would also like to explain his story from the beginning as this pup has had a rough beginning to his life.
His story begins on a farm in deplorable conditions scrounging for food to survive. At the same time not getting eaten alive !!! The farm had 100+ dogs trying to survive some friendly and some feral. Animal Helper took in the friendly and spayed/ neutered the feral and provided food for them. Feral dogs lack human socialization and it is difficult to adapt to normal life in a home. Hiccup was a feral puppy still at the age where rehabilitation can occur with time and patience. He will still need a patient home that will continue to work with him on socializing and understand him. Hiccup was missing for 10 days and was hit by a car having him fight for his life . With the help of the community,MSAH, and LSU this boy is loving his new take on life !
We are attaching two videos one before his accident and one after the accident ❤️
