Matilda has recently commenced her medication and is showing an ever so slight improvement - we have all our paws crossed for her!

We would like to make special mention of our vet, Dr Gillian Tenni and her dedicated team. THANK YOU for always going above and beyond the call of duty especially when we don’t know what each day will bring us - you are always there for us and put the animals first and foremost. We really do appreciate all your hard work and we don’t know what we would do without you and your wonderful team.
Listed below are just SOME of the cases we have had this year:
🐾 EHRLICHIOSIS: Celia was covered in ticks and partly blind with blue cloudy eyes when she came in – Dr Gillian immediately suspected what was wrong and she was right. Celia became the first dog to be diagnosed in QLD with this tick disease. We have since then had Rocky, Snowflake and Zeus to name a few and we are pleased to say they have all made a full recovery
🐾 MANGE: we saw some of the worst cases of mange this year – Geena, Lonella, Hazel, Angel, Tofu and Speedy Gonzales/Dusty
🐾 PARVO: the dreaded parvo – we lost five pups this year to parvo which devastated us. However, we also saved over 20!!
🐾 INJURIES: we have treated many animals who have come in with injuries – Rocky had his leg amputated, Boots had his eye removed due to an untreated infection, Sheila had several surgeries to fix her broken leg, Baz and Tyrion had casts to fix their broken legs, Ellie who had broken her toes, Tydus who was paralysed from the mid-section down (but is now able to walk) and Homer who had a very large tumour removed. We also saw so

TYDUS WILL NOT ALLOW HIS HANDICAP TO DIM HIS ENTHUSIASM...
Just weeks after his surgery, Tydus was going ahead in leaps and bounds. However, if you look closely, you will see his back legs splaying outwards and occasionally crossing over as he runs in the most ungainly fashion. However, he just loves that he can run at all so nothing holds him back,, he has a contagious joy for life.

WORRY ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF SURGERY TO FIX PARALYSIS IN TYDUS'S HINDQUARTERS...
Tydus had quite a struggle for some time after his major surgery but he still managed to move himself around... such a little fighter!! He was not going to let his handicap get the better of him.

Our second cupcake stall this year has once again been a huge success so we are totally delighted..... This is only possible thanks to the lovely people who volunteer to bake the most amazing goodies and of course those great supporters who come to buy them... I'm hoping we're not responsible for a sudden weight gain in the community....🤣🤣🤣😂
This couldn't have come at a better time after we have received our highest vet bill ever with six doggies presenting with Parvo and some injuries in this last month.

Storm Settles Into the Big Smoke!!
Storm was the first of our fifteen Sharpei pups to travel out of Mount Isa...
Here is Elouise's message about her new family member:
I just wanted to let you know how the little guy is going. We’ve named him Luther, he was Luther within the first 15 minutes of picking him up from the airport! Of course I cried the first time I held him because I’m such a big sook! My son and I love him to bits and although I feel like I’ve got a newborn who’s teething and crawling but doesn’t wear a nappy, I wouldn’t swap him for the world. I’ve bought baby gates and put him in the kitchen when I go out. He likes it in there but still cries, he is just a baby still after all though. He’s my spirit animal, he loves to eat, sleep and is extremely clumsy 😂 He’s so clever and learning new things every day. He’s learnt to go to the toilet every time I take him outside, climbs the stairs, jump up on the lounge and knows to chew his toys and frozen face washer strips instead of shoes or fingers (mostly 🙈). You wouldn’t believe it, but my psycho cat Manu, actually seems to like Luther and even plays with him!! It took me 18 months solid to be able to have Manu and Harry the bulldog I look after, to just be in the same room as each other. This little guy comes into our home and Manu accepts him straightaway! He really is the perfect fit for our family and I can’t thank you enough for choosing me to be his new mum. I’ve included a clip I’ve made of his first week in the big smoke.
LOVE CONQUERS ALL......(Plus good food)
It is absolutely amazing the difference a day or two can make.... We have had Rocky for just over 40 hours and already this morning we have a different dog....Paula was delighted to be greeted with a wagging tail and we have even seen a bounce in his step....
On our first afternoon Rocky drank and drank water and ate what we gave him but then spent the night vomiting up everything...There was even a half squeezed lemon which he must have previously swallowed whole in desperation. .However, yesterday we only gave him multiple small meals of home-made rice chicken and vegetables and this did the trick....(Thanks Vee for contributing your cooked rice dish to his menu). Happily, he kept all of his food down yesterday and enjoyed lots of love and attention, although still wary.
A HUGE thank you for the incredible response and support we have had from all over Australia.... It is wonderful to know that there are so many caring people out there. I am still getting through the missed messages and calls. My phone started ringing and pinging early yesterday morning and continued every 10 minutes of the day so I have a lot of catching up to do.... I apologise if you are still waiting for a response.......Sue.
Just as a sideline, we are thinking of giving Rocky a new name to go with his new start.... If you can think of an appropriate name for him, please send a message.

It's a Mission - Feeding Time for Fifteen!!
It's early morning at the Gleeson home and fifteen puppies attack their puppy milk with enthusiasm. They are still getting used to drinking by themselves so there is an occasional mishap where the odd pup or two takes a swim in the milk..... I've heard that milk is a great conditioner for hair!
Mum is still there but has reduced her feeding time since the babies started growing teeth....The mind boggles at the thought of fifteen sets of chompers latched on...

Ziggy's Marathon TRIP!!!
After a call out to get Ziggy to Townsville by car so that he could board a coastal jet, Leanne Martin volunteered to take our hitch-hiker last Thursday morning...We only had a few hours notice so we had to take the chance that we would be able to find him an overnight stay and get him onto a jet on Friday.
A lovely lady called Sue Gordon (who adopted Lulu from PHC) offered to help but it was quite a drive from Hervey Range into Townsville and Sue would have two trips back and forth. Although Sue was happy to do so, I thought it was a big ask so we tried Angel Paws.... a Townsville rescue group... The president - Larissa Huxley - was really helpful and, not only looked after Ziggy overnight, but make sure he was at the terminal in time for his flight to Melbourne the next morning... Unfortunately, Ziggy was changed onto a late flight in Brisbane, so the poor fellow spent nearly 12 hours in a crate....an ordeal for anyone.
However, he had an excited couple waiting to give him a permanent home .... Thank you Rachel and James!
As you can see from the video, our gentle Wolfhound X boy will have a great life. We are thrilled to see that Ziggy is already playing happily at his new home on his first day
I would also like to thank Steve James - one of our special carers - for the part he played in Ziggy's life. Ziggy was a very frightened and sad boy when he came off the street; but Steve was instrumental in helping Ziggy to trust again.....

ONE CLEVER LITTLE FELLOW.....
I have never seen a dog actually do this before... Mister was adopted from PHC recently and already he is delighting his family. Buddy (his new name) is one clever little man... He has better ball skills than I have?? Sue..
McGee
The Lone Ranger....McGee!
You will all remember the four boys who all had Parvo not long before Christmas..... they were all in the vet at the same time recovering at different rates.
We were alerted to McGee's condition by police and what a sorry little fellow he was when I picked him up. Surprisingly, McGee bounced back more quickly than the other three, even though he was the smallest. I suspect that this little fellow had had a battle from the day he was born, judging by the environment he was in. However he did survive against all odds and what a happy and affectionate little man he is! This boy is so easy going and just goes with the flow.... he has decided to enjoy his life to the fullest and his optimism is contagious. I am quite surprised that he is the last to find his forever home - Stallone, Lawson and Ajax have all been adopted!
McGee loves everyone - people, dogs, kids, cats, whatever.... he is such a joy and deserves to have a loving home to call his own.
