I'm celebrating my nineteenth year in the dog breeding industry, a journey fueled by a lifetime passion for animals and an entrepreneurial spirit inherited from my family. Encouraged by my parents and grandparents, who always believed in the power of determination, I embarked on this path at 19. Guided by seasoned breeders in Arkansas, I learned the ins and outs of breeds, veterinary care, facility management, and the crucial business aspects like licensing and dealing with brokers. Together with my parents, who became my business partners and mentors, we crafted a robust business plan. They supported me with guidance and financial backing, while I took on the responsibilities of managing daily operations and half the expenses—from dog care to vet and broker runs, all while working at Jewel Bait to sustain my growing enterprise.

Selling puppies to brokers at just a third of their value initially, I felt a fiery drive to aim higher. Facing the challenges of no computer experience, I was determined to leap into the digital world. With the assistance of a business acquaintance of my dad's, I tackled the daunting task of learning to code. Back in the early 2000s, there weren't convenient web builders, so I built my website from scratch, coding each line with a borrowed paperback book as my guide. Before long, I was shipping puppies to their new homes across the country, handling transactions through money orders, checks, and bank wires, from airports in Springfield or St. Louis. As online sales flourished, I optimized operations by employing a transporter, allowing me to focus on enhancing online engagement and kennel management, significantly increasing my profits.

Despite the initial success, the road was lined with harsh lessons. The devastating loss of my first litter due to cold, and subsequent losses to parvo in my first year, nearly broke my spirit. These painful moments, however, were profound teachers. They instilled in me a stringent adherence to safety and sanitation standards and forged a resilience that deepened my resolve. I reinvested every dollar earned back into the business for the first five years, adhering to my parents' wise counsel on the importance of sacrifice for long-term success.

As a fourth-generation entrepreneur, the values of hard work and perseverance were ingrained in me from a young age. Reflecting on the past 19 years, I see a tapestry of hard work, challenges, and personal losses, including the heartrending loss of my husband and business partner. Yet, through it all, there's undeniable growth. I’ve raised a beautiful family, providing a nurturing home for my three children while building a thriving business. Although my parents have stepped back, their wisdom continues to guide me.

I’ve had the privilege of selling puppies to celebrities like Ariana Grande and Maren Morris, and even royalty, with my dogs gracing the packaging of Science Diet and other promotional materials. Every step of this journey, I've witnessed the grace of God moving, blessing my efforts and sustaining me through trials. This narrative isn’t just mine; it’s a testament to what anyone can achieve with ears open to guidance, a heart full of determination, fervent prayers, and relentless hard work.
