All Dogs Go To Kevin LLC Training for the life you lead. The ADGTK way

The ADGTK way is the way of the dog. It’s training that’s in tune with the way a dog learns and at their pace.
(292)

We structure our training thoroughly. We break everything down, step-by-step, to break through the human-dog communication barrier. Your dog becomes super clear about the behavior that is expected and knows it will be the most rewarding. It’s the smart route to a sociable, well-mannered dog that is a pleasure for anyone to be around. We don’t work on trial and error. Our methods are drawn from a r

igorous study of dog behavior. We know how to motivate, reinforce and reward so there’s no need for harshness or dominance and you get results. It’s important to us, too, to share the ‘why’ of our training approach as well as the ‘how’ so that you can have confidence we’re doing the best for you and your dog for the long term. After every ADGTK program, you’ll have a foundation of great skills yourself that you can apply to all the different situations, environments and adventures you’ll encounter in your lives together. The ADGTK way can
Fast track basic obedience and manners with fun group classes or intensive day training
Give puppies the right start for a confident life
Build great social skills out and about in the world so your dog is welcome wherever you go
Tackle behavior problems such as lunging and barking at other dogs on leash or at gates and fences, jumping up at guests, over exuberance with other dogs on walks, leash pulling, food or object guarding

Why ADGTK? Designed around the way dogs learn for efficient training
Smart, structured plans to take away the frustration of stalled progress
Positive, rewarding methods to motivate and make training fun for you and your dog.

Stop Puppy Biting in 3 Steps

Step 1: If your pup bites too hard, immediately stop play and walk away for 30 seconds.
Step 2: Always have chew toys available—redirect their biting to something appropriate.
Step 3: Be consistent! If biting ends play every time, your pup will learn fast.

Puppy biting is normal, but with the right approach, your pup will learn what’s okay to bite and what’s not. Need professional guidance? We can help.

Why Puppies Bite & How to Handle It

Puppy biting is normal—but that doesn’t mean it has to be painful!

Puppies explore the world with their mouths, and biting is a natural part of play. But if your pup’s playtime becomes too much, it’s time to teach bite control.

✅ What to do:
✔️ Allow gentle play biting in moderation
✔️ Stop play immediately if a bite is too hard—walk away for 30 seconds
✔️ Provide plenty of chew toys to redirect their energy

🚫 What NOT to do:
❌ Don’t yell or punish—this can cause fear or anxiety
❌ Don’t use your hands as toys—this encourages more biting

With patience and consistency, your pup will learn gentle play = more fun!

Puppy bites can hurt. Sometimes puppies nibble gently and other times blood is drawn. Regardless, it’s normal. Puppies, like young humans, explore the world with their mouths. And if you’ve ever seen puppies play with one another, it’s full of biting.

Biting can be reduced, but it’s still going to happen from time to time. We recommend allowing gentle play biting in moderation. The hard stuff should be stopped right away. We recommend getting up and walking away if a hard bite occurs. You can just walk away or you can step over a gate. Doing so for 30 seconds or so will help your pup see that hard bites causes you to go. (This is the opposite of what they want.)

It’s very important to have lots of appropriate options for pups. Chew toys are crucial. Focus on using toys to interact with your pup. If that’s where all the fun is, your pup will want to do more play with toys.

Every Dog is Unique – Here’s Why That Matters 🐶

When bringing home a new dog, it’s easy to compare them to your last one. But here’s the thing—every dog is different.

🐾 Some love fetch, others couldn’t care less.
🐾 Some treasure a toy for life, others destroy them in seconds.
🐾 Some bond quickly, others need more time.

By keeping an open mind and focusing on what this dog enjoys, you’ll set the stage for a strong and happy bond.

How To Bond With Your New Dog

Every dog is different. Yes, there are breed characteristics, but each dog is still an individual. Some will like to play fetch while others will have no interest. Some will have a toy for their entire life while others will dissect a new toy in .5 seconds. When getting a new dog, go into it knowing that this dog isn’t going to be exactly like your last. Doing so will set you and your new dog up for success because you’ll have a more open mind as to what this new dog likes. Make sure you’re finding things that you both enjoy together. For example, I used to sit on the floor with my dog’s meal and practice “free shaping.” This is where I would wait for him to offer a behavior and then provide a reward. I really enjoyed this and so did he. This is one of the ways we bonded.Walks can be a great way to bond too. It can take work to get a dog to walk the way you’d like. But once you get there, you’ll likely find that it’s a great bonding experience. If your new dog predicts things that you enjoy, you’re going to develop that bond. And if you predict things that your new dog really enjoys, your dog will start to bond to you.

2 Ways To Teach A Behavior

The most common way we teach new behaviors is by starting with a food lure. A food lure is a piece of food that we use to guide a dog into a position. (E.G. sit, down.) Some dogs follow very easily and we can then turn the food lure into a hand signal. (Once it’s on a hand signal we no longer need to have the food present first.)

Another way to teach a behavior is by a process called Capturing. Capturing is all about rewarding the behavior while it’s happening on its own. For example, if a dog is really struggling with lying down for a food lure, you may end up waiting for it to happen naturally and then rewarding it often. This will start to result in a lightbulb going off when you come near and your dog is in that position. Once your dog starts catching on, you’ll be able to reward it when you see it, then invite your dog out of position and then patiently wait to see if your dog offers the behavior again. You’ll then be able to reward that and repeat the cycle. Once the cycle is going very smoothly you’ll be ready to add in the verbal cue or hand signal to the cycle before your dog does the behavior.

Behaviors are a good thing to teach if it’s going to make your life (and your dog’s life) easier. Once your dog is able to perform the behavior, you’ll still need to reward it. Behaviors that are rewarded will continue and behaviors that aren’t rewarded will stop.

Why Your Dog Ignores Their Name (And How to Fix It)

Are You Making These Mistakes When Teaching Your Dog Their Name?

When introducing a name to your pup, avoid these common mistakes:

❌ Repeating their name too often—dogs tune it out!
❌ Saying their name in a frustrated or negative tone.
❌ Only using their name when calling them for something they don’t like (bath time, leaving the park, etc.).

✅ Instead, make their name exciting! Randomly say it throughout the day and follow up with a treat. This builds a strong, positive association, making training easier and more effective.

Naming Your Dog? Read This First!

Repeating your dog’s name over and over won’t do much—dogs don’t learn like that.

Instead, create a positive association by surprising them with a treat when you say their name.

✅ Sneakily grab a treat
✅ Say their name in a happy tone
✅ Reward immediately!

Avoid using their name for corrections—“Fido! Bad boy!” can make them associate their name with negativity. Keep it positive, and soon they’ll be excited every time they hear their name!

06/02/2025

Whether you’re naming your puppy or changing the name of a newly adopted dog, one thing to consider is that saying the name over and over will likely go in one ear and out the other. A dog’s name is generally used to get their attention. Here is a good way to start:

A few times per day, walk up to your dog, say their name and then give a few treats. When done correctly, your dog will hear that word (the name) and start getting excited about it. To do this correctly, catch your dog off guard with this. Be sneaky about grabbing the treats so they’re not already thinking that something is going to happen. Then walk up, happily say the name while they’re not overly distracted and treat.

In general you’ll want to avoid using your dog’s name in any sort of corrective way. Meaning, don’t say, “Fido! Bad boy!” This will lead to a dog developing a negative association with their name and will likely lead to them avoiding you when you say it.
