Blackmores Park Trakehner Sporthorse Stud At Blackmores we maintain a small, select breeding programme of trakehner horses for sport horse disciplines. Foals are handled from birth.

Blackmores horses are provided with the best nutrition and care available. We believe that producing horses capable of eventing at elite levels demands a combination of proven performance bloodlines and proper care to grow healthy bones and joints. Our trakehner bloodlines can be traced to the original stud book in Prussia in 1780. We cross proven performance thoroughbred lines to further enhance

the trakehners natural speed and stamina. Our mares are selected with the greatest care and consideration for blood, performance, conformation and temperament. Our young horses are known for their talent, intelligence, trainability and sensible temperaments. They bond very closely with their handlers and thrive on competition. They do best in smaller competitive stables where they can have a close relationship with their riders. The trakehner is the only warmblood stud book that does not permit entry to other warmblood breeds. Only Arabian (usually shagyu) and TB out cross is permitted. As a result the trakehner is a particularly athletic horse perfectly suited to eventing with warmblood movement, Arabian beauty and intelligence plus Tb speed and endurance. Our highly successful eventing progeny include BMS Volition, BMS Armada, BMS Samicah and BMS Alethea. Limited foals may occasionally be sold in Utero or sometimes advertised. Our prices are reasonable and negotiable, home quality is not.

Wandin was a success for Jen and BMS Kitengella coming home on their dressage score in the EVA 80. BJ was not so well behaved, went into the EVA 95 XC in the lead but had 2 stops - no woollie and NO extra carrots!!!!

11/12/2023

BJ jumped like a trooper in the pouring rain. He also had time XC taking him to 8th. No jumping penalties so extreme happy with that! It was so good to get back to one of my favourite events on the calendar. 4 years away has been too long!

11/12/2023

Jen and Kitengella did a wonderful job in the eva80 at lakes on the weekend. 4th after dressage they took time xc after accidentally jumping the eva95 fence out of the water. The mistake was corrected but the time faults cost them a placing. Still 12th was a solid result and she is highly deserving of the holiday she now goes on.

11/12/2023

Jen and BJ pulled out a PB for 2nd place in Eva95 at lakes and craters.

BJ, BMS Katapult was also out at Avenel on the weekend in the 95 with Nat on board. Beej had a run in with a couple of gremlins just before his test that left him rattled and out of the placings but the rest of the run augered well for him moving up in the coming weeks. Next time he’ll be wearing a bonnet for his test!

It was a really big weekend for BMS Krieger last weekend - little did he know it - languishing at home in the paddock. Three of his first crop of babies were in the EvA80 5/6 yr old young horse, OPT Velvet, BMS Kitengella and BMS Springbok. After dressage they were 1st, 3rd and 5th respectively. Velvet stayed on her dressage score to take the class, some xc time took Kitty back to 5th and Arlo finished out of placings due to a couple of WHS inspections on xc. It was Arlo’s first 80 so no one is concerned that he still needs to build a little more confidence. Congratulations to the owners and riders of these lovely young horses! Although I couldn’t be there I did hear a whisper or two that the three of them cut a fine picture all stamped with Krieger’s kind eye and gorgeous head.

For a long time Jen and I have wanted Matthias Werner to see the results of my breeding program so this year we decided to put BJ, Krieger and Kitty up for the Trakehner Australia assessment tour. Jen travelled to Myoora Trakehner stud for the event. Pictured here is BJ - BMS Katapult (Abendtanz/BMS Kimani). He was assessed premium. Thank you to TA, Myoora and Matthias for a great day and to Warren who was chief photographer!

BMS Kaiden (CJ) in the 95 young horse at Avenel on the weekend. Finishing on their dressage score for the closest 2nd place I’ve experienced. Nat and CJ were equal 2nd in the dressage, both horse and rider combinations were clear in xc and sj so finished on same score.

To separate firstly they look for the lowest dressage score but they were the same. Then xc but both were clear, then sj and both clear again. So next they go to closest to optimum time xc and amazingly they had exactly the same time. Last resort is the fastest sj round and the other combination came through by a few seconds. A nail biting finish!

CJ is out of BMS Kimani by NZ stayer Ustinov, he is owned by Nat Davies, Judy Croagh and Francine Marshall. Congratulations team CJ!

The filly fairy waved her magic wand for us this year delivering the very long awaited filly out of BMS Kimani by Abendtanz. Kimani has given us four colts, each of them utterly superb. At last the treasured filly BMS Kopelia. Kopelia is a full sister to BJ - BMS Katapult.

Congratulations to Rachel and Poppy (BMS Aremembrance) on their first big win at Southside Jump Club Diamond Championship. So wonderful to see success in WA especially given we have only just had the first foal since relocating to Perth. Better than any ribbon is always however the joy that the owners and riders get from the partnerships they form with their horse. Rachel doesn’t need a ribbon to be a champion in my book, she has been from the start!

Welcome to the world BMS Ajani (BMS Alexeah x Abendtanz) gorgeous, athletic brown filly with a crown and two white splashes on her hind fetlocks. Born 24 Oct. Pictured shortly after arriving home from Oakford Equine hospital where she was foaled down.

Sooli (Alexeah) is an anxious first time mum but now that she’s been home 24 hours has settled beautifully and is now taking to motherhood with the same care took to getting Jen safely home on xc. Jen and I are over the moon about this little princess. If only we could agree on a paddock name lol!

Blackmores has not had a foal for four years while we transitioned from Victoria to Perth. We are now officially back in business and eagerly awaiting the arrival of Kimani’s baby due the 17th

Just a lovely shot of Jen and the boys.

A glimpse into the future - let’s hope so! Jen and Krieger were asked to be test rider for the 2star judges at Melb 3DE. At the last minute they were asked to do the 3star. Getting hold of Jen’s tails was the least of their problems - they’ve never trained Half passes! They are currently competing 95. But they got out there and did their best coming out with a score that would have had them mid field had they actually been competing. Just so proud and Jen looks so good in tails! Baby CJ and Nat did the five year old young horse. They came midfield but there’s no shame in that. We do these classes for the experience, a good score is just a bonus. The most important thing was that CJ took the huge atmosphere completely in his stride looking like an old hand! Melb 2023 - bring it on!

Ballarat gave team BMS a few highs and lows this year. 5yr old BMS Kaiden was a superstar in his first EA80 ending 7th on his dressage score apart from xc times faults taken on purpose to encourage the baby horse. BMS Krieger went into the XC in 2nd place in the 95, got through all the bogies only to have an unlucky missie at the second last. BMS Katapult just had a series of little bad luck issues in his 95 so both black boys came home well out of the money. So we’ll be back next year to have another crack and hopefully there’ll be a couple more BMS horses going round as well!

Super spoilt I am with a professional photoshoot by Jessica Atkins as a present from Jen. This gorgeous pic of Krieger is a teaser for what is yet to come. Can't wait to see the rest! A huge thank you to Jen but also to Nat who recommended Jessica in the first place and helped all day!

It’s almost embarrassing (well almost lol) when you take out supreme led, supreme presented and champion ridden at the one show! It’s so wonderful to see how Mirriam and Sassy are coming together. I’m so proud of these two and I love seeing one I’ve bred in the show ring. sassy’s mum, older 3/4 brother and older 3/4 sister are now all home at my place. The resemblance is amazing!

CJ, aka BMS Kaiden with owner Nat Davies finished fourth on their dressage score at their second 65 at Geelong on the weekend. Sadly Jen and the blacks stopped home after BJ went down with mystery virus during the week. Thankfully both are fine now.

I’m very excited to announce that Blackmores welcomed a new mare on the weekend.

I have been looking a suitable bride for Krieger and had my heart set on finding a tb mare by the stallion Maschino. Trouble is Maschino foals are highly sought after by racing and performance breeders alike so when a dear friend alerted me to an ad for Rubychino I wasted no time.

Thank you to Julie Walsh for allowing Ruby to come here!

Ruby has very good performance lines on the dam side as well as her famous sire. She is a 6 yr old liver chestnut with a lovely calm nature and is settling in very well. I can’t wait to see what she and Krieger produce.

Video shows her trialling last year - she is, needless to say, the one in front.
