BJ jumped like a trooper in the pouring rain. He also had time XC taking him to 8th. No jumping penalties so extreme happy with that! It was so good to get back to one of my favourite events on the calendar. 4 years away has been too long!
Jen and Kitengella did a wonderful job in the eva80 at lakes on the weekend. 4th after dressage they took time xc after accidentally jumping the eva95 fence out of the water. The mistake was corrected but the time faults cost them a placing. Still 12th was a solid result and she is highly deserving of the holiday she now goes on.
Jen and BJ pulled out a PB for 2nd place in Eva95 at lakes and craters.
The filly fairy waved her magic wand for us this year delivering the very long awaited filly out of BMS Kimani by Abendtanz. Kimani has given us four colts, each of them utterly superb. At last the treasured filly BMS Kopelia. Kopelia is a full sister to BJ - BMS Katapult.
Welcome to the world BMS Ajani (BMS Alexeah x Abendtanz) gorgeous, athletic brown filly with a crown and two white splashes on her hind fetlocks. Born 24 Oct. Pictured shortly after arriving home from Oakford Equine hospital where she was foaled down.
Sooli (Alexeah) is an anxious first time mum but now that she’s been home 24 hours has settled beautifully and is now taking to motherhood with the same care took to getting Jen safely home on xc. Jen and I are over the moon about this little princess. If only we could agree on a paddock name lol!
Blackmores has not had a foal for four years while we transitioned from Victoria to Perth. We are now officially back in business and eagerly awaiting the arrival of Kimani’s baby due the 17th
BMS Katapult EA95 Ballarat
Ballarat gave team BMS a few highs and lows this year. 5yr old BMS Kaiden was a superstar in his first EA80 ending 7th on his dressage score apart from xc times faults taken on purpose to encourage the baby horse. BMS Krieger went into the XC in 2nd place in the 95, got through all the bogies only to have an unlucky missie at the second last. BMS Katapult just had a series of little bad luck issues in his 95 so both black boys came home well out of the money. So we’ll be back next year to have another crack and hopefully there’ll be a couple more BMS horses going round as well!
Rubychino headed for a new track (trak)
I’m very excited to announce that Blackmores welcomed a new mare on the weekend.
I have been looking a suitable bride for Krieger and had my heart set on finding a tb mare by the stallion Maschino. Trouble is Maschino foals are highly sought after by racing and performance breeders alike so when a dear friend alerted me to an ad for Rubychino I wasted no time.
Thank you to Julie Walsh for allowing Ruby to come here!
Ruby has very good performance lines on the dam side as well as her famous sire. She is a 6 yr old liver chestnut with a lovely calm nature and is settling in very well. I can’t wait to see what she and Krieger produce.
Video shows her trialling last year - she is, needless to say, the one in front.
BMS Katapult 95 ballarat 2022
Jen had a great weekend with the blacks at Ballarat this weekend. BJ was leading after dressage by close to 5 points but a costly rail in SJ and time penalties xc put them into 8th. Krieger was uncharacteristically midfield after dressage and although he finished on that score it wasn’t enough to do better than 8th. Both boys were very well behaved and they had fun - always the most important thing. Thank you Michele Armstrong for the wonderful video!
As the sun sets Luna comes alive. What a beautiful baby that clearly is already showing a keen interest in taking hurdles at speed. Luna is by BMS Krieger out of a Larundal Gandalf mare who has taken her adult rider/owner to top of HRCAV dressage. She can certainly move this little black beauty. I’m told she will be for sale, but I’m not so very sure lol!
The new kid on the block. CJ is the younger half brother to BMS Krieger and BMS Katapult. He is out of BMS Kimani by classic NZ stayer Ustinov. His grand mother Lets Elope won the Melbourne Cup. Owned by Nat Davies
I could not be happier about how this young horse is coming together. CJ has only just started going out to baby comps to get used to the atmosphere, hasn’t competed yet but now that comps are back on in Melbourne it won’t be long. Nat has been using the lockdown to bring him on slowly and her efforts are paying off.
I’m so excited for the future of this young horse who is proving brave and more talented every day.
First cross country school for Popstar and Rachel Glossop. The soundtrack tells the story.
Half Brothers BMS Krieger and BMS Sporacid, both by BMS Armada warming up together for their class at Woady Yalock on the weekend. Krieger pipped Sporacid (Spidie) for third place to Spidie's 4th in the dressage on 80% and 79%. Spidie is two years younger and greener so we are still very proud that baby horse penalties cost him a ribbon in the jumping while Krieger held his third place. It's so wonderful to see my babies out at comps doing well with different riders and several more teams coming through the ranks.
BMS Alexeah Narracoorte Horse Trials 2 star 2021
Just shy of a year since we came so close to losing Sooli to Colic she is back on point! Jen and Sool's did the two star at Narracoorte this weekend. The course asked some serious questions and the team nailed it. A very well deserved third place and best of all...... I'm booking my trip to Melbourne 3DE!!!!
While usually content for this page is reserved for horses I have bred myself and bear the BMS prefix, they are of course not the only horses of bred from my bloodlines.
Meet GlenOwen Groovarmada, bred and owned by Edith Kane. Basil has just had his 5th birthday and is currently training for his first event at Seville.
Basil’s dad is BMS Armada (dec) out of a warmblood mare. Edith is very taken with his easy going temperament and under Edith’s expert hand he will have every opportunity to find his potential. I’m fortunate indeed to have a youngster with a rider of Edith’s caliber - can’t wait to see these two progress!
First horsetrials BMS Krieger
A big day for team Blackmores, Jen and BMS Krieger at Tooradin today. It's Krieger's first horsetrials, first big comp. Given he's still only jumped under saddle less than 10 times and was only gelded in August, it says a lot that a horse that was so recently a working stallion can go out and make us proud in a big atmosphere! Second after dressage (heard a rumour that the horse that placed first is a GP horse) and a clear SJ. We withdrew from the XC simply because with Jen having three at present we just haven't had a chance to put enough miles under his belt. After today however we know he's ready for Woady! He was entered under little brother Katapult's name as we weren't sure if we'd get him far enough in time. Can't wait til the two go out together next next year!
BMS Alexeah 2 star yeringberg
The countdown to Melb 3DE is hotting up. Yeringberg must have asked some questions in the 2 star given that Jen and Sooli went from 5th in dressage, to 12th after dropping two rails in SJ and then ending up in 13th place after XC with time penalties. The jumps are big for little Sooli now who barely stands at 15.3hh but she tries so hard and gives the course everything she has. Jen as ridden her just beautifully this weekend - so proud of these two!!!!
Jen and Sooli powering through the xc at Avenel in the 1 star yesterday. A fabulous dressage test (PB at this level) had them in 2nd behind the very flash Trakehner Lowenherz. Very strong xc they were looking really good until the nerves kicked in and they took two rails in sj. They finished with a very respectable 7th place proving yet again that the little mare is all heart and the bond between her and Jen is just so solid.
Congratulations to Mietta and Lowenherz for their strong finish and to Will and Trakehner stallion Dulwich Feuerstein, winners of the 1 star B. It’s wonderful to see three Trakehners out doing so well at this level. They were 1st, 2nd and 1st after dressage in both 1 star classes, with all still up there at the end when all are still only new to this level.
BMS Katapult June 2018
Introducing BMS Katapult (Abendtanz/BMS Kimani) black trakehner gelding 3 yrs. Katapult aka BJ (Beej) is just a couple of weeks under saddle after being well started by Bruce Marsh. Beej will be given light work and lots of spells over the next year prior to commencing his eventing career.
Jen Bowker is doing an absolutely amazing job with him, keeping him happy and calm all-the while addicting him to carrots so he can be bribed going forward! Nat Davies has been giving so much to the process in guiding Jen along.
Beej is proving highly intelligent and trainable. Though early days, it appears he has a bright future ahead of him.
