Doodles are a big chunk of most groomers clientele today. Not all Doodles have the same coat types, texture or body. Some have big full coats that stand up nicely and allow for nice round faces, while others have fine limp coats that lay flat to the dogs body.

We all have the occasional client that absolutely hates having its nails trimmed. Turning in circles, laying down, sitting. Those are all common and potentially frustrating ways a dog can try to keep you from doing your job. What if you could take away those options? For small and medium dogs you can do just that! Today let's talk tools used on breeds like poodles and Doodles. This doodle pup was done in a 4f blade body clip with a 1/2inch clip blade on the head and muzzle. His mom does great maintenance between visits so there is very few tangles to deal with. My go to tools for this groom are my Chris Christenson coral brush (long pins than can reach down to the skin) The Stuff grooming spray, and my Wahl km cordless clipper which as powerful enough for thick coats. I can't forget my K9 iii dryer as well. It blows water out of the coat in short time. From start to finish (bath to finish) it took 2 hours 15 minutes.

Todays tool of the day is an undercoat rake. I did a beautiful shepherd today. Her hair is not short short, but also by no means long. A zoom groom or a furminator weren't the tools for her, and neither was a slicker. The undercoat rake did amazing however. I used a 16 tooth version. The more teeth, the smaller the gap between them. Smaller gaps for shorter hair, larger gaps for longer coat.

Different coats require different tools. For example today I had a short haired girl who a slicker brush was useless on, so was an undercoat rake. She had alot of coat that was ready to be brushed out, but neither of those tools could do the job. A furminator tool did a bit, but the zoom groom did amazing!

The cold weather is here. Paws can freeze, and salt and sand can hurt your pet. Your dog, or clients pets, still need to go out to do their business and there are ways to limit exposure.
