Happy belated 3rd birthday to our first (A is for Animals) litter! Koda (formally Otter and the father of our most recent litter) and Kiku (formally Dove) got to spend their birthday weekend together. Fennec, Wolverine, Sun Bear, Orca, Dove, and Otter, we hope you all had an amazing 3rd birthday with your families ❤️

Very sorry for the delay. Last but certainly not least, pupdate #6: Peanut Butter, now Kuma!

His owner tells me, “We can’t believe he’s a whole year old!! This year has flown by with him, and he’s made us happier because he’s in it. He is still the cutest! He loves chasing rabbits in our yard. I’m convinced there’s a specific bunny who comes around to play/mess with him. There’s a family of deer who’ve gotten used to him and don’t flee when he’s out like before. And he’s made fur friends at the Sisters park we stop at sometimes. I’m always surprised when other pups outrun him. When he’s just with us, I feel like he’s the fastest animal in existence. His sp*ed and jump height are impressive!!

He’s totally imprinted to Reed. It’s so sweet, and exactly what I was hoping for. Reed’s become a more responsible, mature, nicer, and happier boy this year. I know a large part is because he has a best friend now in Kuma. And Blake is ga ga over him! He was slow to warm, but now he wants to play with him all the time. The genuine joy I see in my boys and feel myself around Kuma is something special. Kuma also seems happy and content. He is full of joyful energy. At night when he’s near bedtime and one of us is petting/massaging him, he’ll finally just chill and stretch and go googley eyed. He still has the cutest little face! Even though he’s grown and big now, Reed will carry him around sometimes and Kuma seems to love it. It’s so ridiculous and funny. Like he’s this big purse dog.

He loves car trips to hike and get to the river. He hasn’t had an accident indoors in forever, except for occasional p*e when he’s playing with the cat. Bandita tolerates him, and Kuma doesn’t seem to care; just happy to chase her.” Kuma weighs around 20-25 lbs ❤️

Pupdate #5 - Oreo (now Sumi)!

Sumi’s owners tell me: “Our sweet and energetic pup, Sumi, has already given us some wonderful memories as she turns the corner into year two. Many things she does well, some she’s still learning. She’s very food motivated and has mastered sit-stays for meals and at treat time, or when it’s time to go outside since she knows it ends with getting a cookie. But she still needs work when it comes to jumping up for greetings, sudden bursts of yard digging or putting (literally) everything in her mouth.

She loves her play dates with neighborhood dogs and she’s doing her best to befriend our cat, Oliver, who endures more than embraces her. Our first dog, Bindi, has welcomed Sumi into the pack, keeping her in check as needed. It’s clear Sumi loves her tribe and the tribe loves her.

Sumi has proven to be a very active pup so training early and often has been a huge help. She’s completed a puppy training class where we’ve worked on skills like recall, sit-stays, down, and even crawl — of course far easier if we coax with cookies — before moving on to a beginner parkour class which both dog and humans enjoyed. Sumi’s become more confident and social, and we attribute that to her ongoing training with people and other animals.

She loves water so we’ve had a few visits to beaches in our area — she also loves to bite the garden hose stream which makes hand-watering a bit more of a chore. She’s been a great garden companion and has become an official sugar snap pea taster.

We always knew she was going to be reserved at first given how shy she was as a puppy but she’s really blossomed into a confident, smart, and expressive little dog with only hints of reservations, mostly around new humans. But if she knows you, she’ll put on her best little happy hat and dance around, her whole body shaking in one giant wagging motion — it’s very sweet and we hope she keeps that as she grows older.

All this is to say we’re still very smitten with her and can’t imagine our lives without her.” At a year old, Sumi is 18 lbs ❤️

Pupdate #4 - Snickerdoodle (now Alder)!

Alder’s owners tell me that, “Alder is very family oriented. He loves being with us and close to us. He’s very cuddly. Loves scratches. He likes hanging out outside. Follows really well on our mountain bike rides. Will jump into water after you. He stays relatively close when hiking and comes when called. He is protective of our spaces and barks at strangers only at home. He loves our friends and family and will crawl up in their arms. He gets a long with most dogs he meets and loves being chased.” At a year old, Alder is 40 lbs ❤️

Pupdate #3 - Gingersnap (now Stella)!

Stella’s owner says, “Stella has been a VERY good girl. She’s been growing alongside our toddler and they have become close friends. She loves snuggling on the bed, chewing bully sticks in the yard, and running around our property. She does well with commands and is an amazing passenger for any car ride. We love exploring new parks together and going on walks around the neighborhood. She is VERY smart and absolutely loves her family. Always excited to see her people and play with them. She always wants to be a part of whatever is going on. She weighs about 35 pounds currently.” ❤️

Pupdate #2 - Coconut (now Kody)!

Kody’s owner tells me that, “Kody is doing great! His current weight is 31 lbs. He is such a happy guy and always wakes up with a smile 🙂 He’s always ready to play a game of fetch and go exploring outside. David has taught Kody quite a few commands and he is very quick and eager to pick them up. He also seems to like the water and is willing to jump right in and go for a swim! We are curious to see how he likes the beach this summer. He has been such a wonderful addition to our lives 🥰” ❤️

Pupdate #1 Sugar (now Stevie)!

At a year old, Stevie’s owner says, “She is the best puppy. She’s so intelligent, and knows it ha so she has quite the personality! She’s 18lbs, loves to play fetch, and is obsessed with her family. She’s finally getting the cats to play with her and it’s hysterical. Stevie adores piper and licks her in the face obsessively haha.

She’s my mini haha she follows me everywhere and she is always making us laugh haha she wipes her feet on the carpet when she wants something but doesn’t want to do it herself 😅 we absolutely adore her and she’s been a great addition to our family. We’re having a fence built now so she’ll have a fun yard to play in soon!

She’s the best🥰 we’re so lucky we got to bring her home” ❤️
