The raccoons are winning. I now have 10 quail left. In the cage that has had the least problems. My new goal is just keeping them alive. 😢

But I know what to do next time I make cages. And meet Kirin, a goofy puppy who will soon have a fenced in area that goes around the quail and chicken runs.

School starts tomorrow! I’m already teacher-tired with all the prep we’ve been doing. 😂 Love it, but it can get crazy!

Which means that if I seem quiet here… it’s because I am busy IRL. I’ll be back!

Today, my guess that it was a raccoon breaking into my quail run was confirmed: found the little brat actually in the run. Good thing is, that showed me how he’s been getting in! Closed that hole down.

I will not give up. I will not give into the frustration. Instead, I will keep working until it’s completely predator-proof.

My camera system comes in on Monday.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend Southern Biophilliac Urban Farm. She went above
and beyond helping me out when I had trouble hatching her chicks- and what great chicks they are! They’re calm, sweet, and beautiful!

I want to give a big shoutout to each and everyone of you who has supported us along our homesteading journey! Because of all of you we have been able to share our love of growing and raising our own food, learning alongside you, & sharing both successes and failures of what living this lifestyle is all about! Oh and the quail, sharing all about the quail 🙃

Argh. Just found out that my quail aviary isn’t quite predator-proof. 😢 Found the problem and fixed it, along with patched up a few other areas that could potentially be problems.

I’m glad I was only using it for my problematic quail at the moment… but I had been planning on using it as a grow-out area next week. Nope! So thankful I found the problem now!
