Willa and I had a fantastic time Monday at my highschool, Bethlehem High School. As an Alumni (1985, gulp), I unabashidly asked if I could participate in their Star Term program revolving around Service Dog and Therapy Dog Training under Lesley Nord's instructorship. We had the best welcome. Lots of questions, lots of enthusiasm, and lots of love. When Willa was released from her "stay" and directed "to go say hi", she immediately went and gave Coach Nord some love then serpentined her way up and down each aisle to give each student some love and receive pets. Amazing! Thank you Susan Dannis for providing me with such a wonderful spirit and thank you Anna Gibson for giving us a great training foundation....one of my goals this year is to try to get Willa officially certified as a Therapy Dog...she is a natural. Thank you BHS students, Mrs. Nord, Coach Nord, and Ben Corder!!! , , , .org

Thank you again.

Today marks the one year anniversay of my sister, Beth Hardesty's,hospitalization with streptococcal pneumonia....while she's been gone just over a month, she worked hard to come home to us. In the end, she won, going home to our Father. Missing her is indescribable.

I'm adding this to my discharge instructions for all those owners who simply can't "not sleep" with their pets on strict exercise restrictions! It's only taken me 30 years to look into this! Slow and steady....

“Unless you have a very close relationship with a veterinarian, you probably don’t actually know much about what their day to day life involves. Many career choices have dramatic highs and lows but there is a perfect storm of the personality types that excel in vet med (often type A, self critical, ambitious, yet extremely compassionate with high investment into their work and skill level, unlikely to be great at self preservation) with the nature of the job itself (very long hours of high intensity work, burden of hefty student loans, sleep deprivation, high emotional toll, high self and client expectation, inability to “turn off”, self perpetuating culture of work obsession).

People never cease to be shocked when I correct the idea that the hardest part of this job is having to euthanize old animals. Not even close. They also are almost always surprised to learn that vet medicine incorporates one of the highest su***de rates across all professions. These losses are highly talented and committed individuals who nobody suspected of struggling until it was just too late.

If you are linked to a person on social media who works in veterinary medicine, you may have noticed them changing their profile picture to include "NOMV" with the Rod of Asclepius. Some of you may know, but if you don't, NOMV stands for Not One More Vet because we have one of the highest su***de rates of any profession. A CDC study showed that female veterinarians are 3.5 times more likely to die by su***de than the average person and male veterinarians are 2.1 times more likely. When you see your friend or social media acquaintance change their profile, it's usually because they have learned of another colleague that succumbed to su***de. This crisis is multifactorial. High debt and subsequent financial struggles, poor work life balance, compassion fatigue, threats of lawsuits, board complaints and cyberbullying.

For my non-veterinary friends, understand that vets are under a tremendous amount of stress and pressure. Please be kind to ALL of our staff. They matter too.

Realize none of us are "in it for the money" and are "trying to run a bill up". Both those statements are asinine.

If you see people bullying a vet online, for the love of all things, do not pile on. Veterinarians literally kill themselves over that kind of stuff.

We lost 3 more this week alone and another in the past month. We are literally dying trying to help you and your pets. We are humans, not punching bags. Your words and behavior matter. “ copied from so many others who want to raise more awareness of this issue.

Beth Hardesty took flight this morning to return home to our Heavenly Father. You were Superhuman over the past 11 months. I can't imagine our world without you. I know Daddy and Ruth have you in a huge embrace and I know Izzie and Blue are there loving on you as well. I imagine your Angel Wings are encrusted in diamonds. You know I'm a little mad at you leaving us but I do understand...we are going to miss you more than you could ever comprehend. We will figure out this new normal. You have our hearts. I'll see you in my dreams.

Morning update from my other sister; Good morning Beth Hardesty prayer warriors! Keep them coming! God continues to bless us with sweet time with Beth to witness her unfailing strength and constant love. Yesterday was a good day after two and half weeks of terror, heartache and fear. We don’t know what God’s plans are for Beth, but we know they are perfect. She actually took three steps to move from bed to her chair to visit with me! She asked for salt & vinegar Pringles, which I couldn’t find after two stops yesterday but she ate sir cream & onion Pringles and a couple Kroger’s salt & vinegar. What a win! She’s thinking about what she wants for breakfast. All of this seemed impossible even a week ago! If you want to schedule short visits for next week, please contact Jami Jarboe Spears, Mom (Janet Jarboe) or Mary Bernadette. She can only handle a couple a day and we want to spread out the love! Thank you God and thank you prayer warriors for prayers, love, cards, support and encouragement! Keep them coming! She loves the cards but only managed to read a few after her busy day yesterday. She smiles at every one! I think I found some new pics of her beautiful smile! We are so blessed!

From our dear sister from another, Mary Bernadette:
Last night a miracle occurred…honestly we were at death’s door…and then cheerleading mode set in…it takes a village.

Thursday night, right before 9 pm, Beth said "yes" she wants to fight and for us to call Dr Nan, her lung transplant doctor. We did and Dr Nan FaceTime'd her. Beth agreed and wants to revoke Hospice. We are in the process of getting her re-admitted to the lung transplant floor. Another Beth miracle! God is so good!

Thank you to everyone who has visited her, sent cards, contributed to her Doordash, and most importantly the lifting of prayers & positive vibes.

It will be a fight to the finish surrounding her only with positivity and people who will bring out the very best in her. People who will:
- emulate nothing but goodness
- be and show constant love & support. She needs people who are in it to win it .
- be continually/equally vested in her success.

We will need support from everyone!!
* Visits
* Facetime
* Cards/letters (no flowers/plants)
* Prayers

We must surround her with love!! She will need 24/7 reminders & butt kicks to keep her focused on all the good God has planned for her.

If you are interested in being a REAL part of this journey/miracle - let us know!! If you can’t, then please pray for her success & recovery. She needs constants.

Her contact info can be made available to you once appropriate.

Things are rarely as they appear. You never fully know another's story. Many are not ok. Be kind. It's easy enough to do.

I am always struck (horrified) when I'm driving and see people walking their dogs in the hell fire hottest times of the day on sidewalks and asphalt.....the human has shoes...the dogs really don't....the tap dancing isn't a happy dance...the dragging behind trying to stay on the grass isn't laziness....it hurts people!

From our oldest sister Jami Spears;
Beth Hardesty prayer warriors! I just want to thank you for those prayers, thoughts and good intentions keeping Beth improving! I spent a lovely 8 hours with her yesterday, just enjoying “sister” time. I had been weepy all weekend, missing our lives together and just feeling the feels for my best friend! So happy our sister Joli Jarboe Dvm Dacvim could take our beautiful Mom, Janet Jarboe to her house for a sleepover and play with a couple of her great-grands. Thank you Lesley Brosick, Allen and Nina Marler. Contact Mom, Jo or me if you want to visit. Beth is ready for stimulation as she weans off vent! She did 7 hours off it yesterday after walking 500 ft. Thank you for all your generous Door Dash gifts! She is enjoying picking out foods to try, even when she can’t eat much of it! I am blessed!

I wanted share this sweet post from our dear sister friend Bernadette regarding my sister Beth. And to always give thanks for all of you keeping her/us in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks always to Spirit and legions of Angels watching over us as well. We are humbled and walk in gratitude.

"It’s been a “minute” since I posted anything about my warrior sister. Today I am spending the day with the one & only Beth! Her mental strength & capacity is nothing less than phenomenal and that probably amazes me more than anything. I think I would’ve already turned in the towel but she just keeps right on.

Conditions fluctuate - one thing gets better & then something else goes wacky sometimes but overall things are sooooo much better. It’s like getting your brows done & they look amazing and then you suddenly notice your roots are showing - why can’t everything look perfect all at once!!

Atrophy is a b* and painful to conquer - even for a woman who has done 5 marathons, 15 minis AND an Iron marathon - can you only imagine how the rest of us would by handling this??!! Watching her progress in her workouts (using that word loosely), brings happy tears 🥲 to my eyes everytime.

Thankfully her lungs continue to do well, kidneys are improving and little by little, they are providing her with the tools and confidence she needs to dump the vent.

So again thoughts, prayers, positive thoughts & DoorDash gift certificates ([email protected]) are hugely appreciated…flowers cannot be tolerated as beautiful as they are and as much as she loves them….It’s crazy important that she eats and the hospital food leaves much to be desired (potted meat, instant potatoes, ground up surprise, etc. - 🤮)!"

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers out there mothering humans and others. I especially want to give a shout ouy to the Mothership Janet Jarboe, and my wife Lesley Brosick. They are our compass in this world. Thank you Nina Marler for always getting the best pictures and for being an incredible Momma in your own right! Love the Mommas in my life!

Beth Hardesty - another milestone in the books! Got to go outside - first time in 8 months! We envisioned we were enjoying the ocean breeze while manifesting that into our collective reality and future! It was a great afternoon. No one rocks a hospital bed quite like my Audrey Hepburn sister! The smiles (and maybe some tears) said it best. Thank you Beth for all the work you are putting in towards coming home! Thank you to her exceptional nursing staff and caregivers at U of K. Thank you to all of you keeping Beth and our family in your heart and prayers. Thank you to Spirit and all of our Heavenly Angels!

Unsure if this is true or not but it seems reasonable:
The Police are now saying if you see a dog locked in a car in hot weather, take a picture of the dog and the car.
If someone is with you, get them to bring up the weather for your area on their phone so you can screen shot the temp, then break the car window. This way, you will not be charged with criminal damage and it gives the police photo evidence to take the dog owners to court.
Can everyone please copy and paste this information to prevent this cruel act from happening?
Summer is coming! 🐶🐕🌞🌡
