Phone: 1-833-BOXERS1 Northwest Boxer Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Pacific Northwest.
(2012)

We strive to rescue, medically rehabilitate, and re-home unwanted and abandoned Boxers, as well as providing education to pet owners. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into

their homes and lives. Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist Boxers in distress without regard to age, condition or ease of placement.

Why do we foster?

We foster, to show the dogs what an amazing life they can live with a loving and caring family, despite what they may have encountered before coming into NWBR. Also, we foster because foster dad is a sucker for our cuteness and energy.
We have been fostering off and on for years as our lives permit it. We believe fostering helps our children (6 & 3) grow. It shows them love & compassion for a dog that is not necessarily ours forever but still deserving of all the love and compassion we can give them.

We use my volunteer work to help show our children that dogs have emotions, express themselves in unique ways, and have a mix of interests. We tie these learning moments into our everyday experiences and discuss that people, in many ways, are the same way. This helps teach our children emotional intelligence and how they can have a positive impact on the people around them. It is also a great step into teaching them responsibility. We take small steps as their age allows, such as helping us feed the dogs or refilling the water bowl.

Of course, there are some minor challenges along the way. As a family, when we bring a new foster into the home, we work to define the boundaries needed for that specific pup. This can be difficult to explain to kids, but with practice and patience, they grasp the idea very well. Also, we explain the history (if we know it) for the pup and how/why they ended up in the rescue. Some of the histories are hard to understand for a young mind, but to see the processing of information and the critical thinking that goes on with them, is awesome to see! And the biggest hurdle for us; DON’T fall in love with every single pup that we help. This last one can be the hardest on the adoption day, but compassion from us and taking the time to listen to the kids and help them process the emotions, works very well.

Even with these minor challenges, we encourage families to share the experience with their children. We believe the overall experience, the learning and understanding of rules or limits, understanding emotions, and providing age-appropriate responsibilities; all benefit our family and the pups we help.

Every dog deserves a chance at a better life. We are proud to support NWBR and their mission to help as many Boxers as possible. Fostering is a rewarding endeavor. One that I hope many people will choose to do. Like us, you can foster on and off as life events allow or foster full-time. Every foster is important. We can’t put into words, the joy and excitement of seeing a once troubled dog live up to their potential!

🩷📣Adoption Announcement📣🩷

The Ballard family recently began searching for a new pup to add to their home after the sudden passing of their beloved Beau. After 18 and a half years with a boxer, their home felt quiet, and they were eager to bring that boxer love back into their lives. After considering a few pups, they narrowed it down to one. A quick meet-and-greet was arranged, and the Ballards fell in love with Rosco!

Rosco will now enjoy his days with his new mom and dad, lounging around the house, playing ball outside, going for car rides, and, most importantly, taking multiple long walks a day with his new mom.

Congratulations to the Ballard family, and happy adoption day, Rosco!

Today is Tummy-Out Tuesday and there aren't many tummy's cuter than Miss Bella's! This 2.5 year old girl has blossomed into the most devoted and loyal dog partner anyone could want. She is learning how to play and enjoy life. Bella's foster family says she's a delight in the house and does not need a crate but could learn to use one. She loves car rides, belly rubs, and walks, of course the finest things in life. Her natural tail starts first thing in the morning and goes all day. Bella is an all-around happy girl that is looking for an active family that is willing to continue to help her bloom with training, and building routines.

As part of our “Senior Sunday" series, we want to share stories about special NWBR pups who are adored as seniors. Some of our stories will include pups that have since crossed the rainbow bridge but will always be remembered. Each story is told by their family who loves them dearly.

Mary’s story from when NWBR heard about her was one of hardship—abandoned and left alone on the streets, taken to a shelter and given only days to live. Despite her frailty and the challenges she faced, including being unable to use her back legs, Mary’s gentle spirit shone through. The day NWBR rescued her from the shelter, she took her first careful steps into a life filled with care and love—a life she truly deserved. With every soft lean into her humans, Mary reminded us that every soul has a story worth cherishing, no matter how bruised it might seem at first glance.

But the road to healing was not without its trials. A few weeks after her rescue, Mary developed glaucoma in one eye, a condition that advanced so quickly that the choice between removing the eye or saying goodbye loomed large. While many might have hesitated, NWBR’s faith in her worth led to a full work-up—bloodwork, x-rays, and an earnest commitment to give her a second chance. Now, after a successful surgery this week, Mary is healing steadily, bearing some significant swelling from a clot (this will heal) and a sweet, permanent wink as reminders of her strength. Mary, you embody the heart of rescue and the promise that every life is precious. Happy Senior Sunday!
