🧐 When things don’t quite go as planned…A volunteer scooped up this ear-tipped guy thinking that he had a bad URI and maybe some serious dental issues. He was very wheezy and was drooling a lot. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the tip of his nose is missing 😿 We’re not sure if the drooling is related to dental stuff or if he was just really nervous. He’s got a quiet, cozy set up while we assess his temperament and figure out next steps. He’s not fractious in the trap and he’s been eating—all good signs. When we know we will have a cat for a few days, we set them up with a recovery cube attached to the humane trap. This gives them a little more room and keeps everyone safe 🧡🧡

We received a flurry of phone calls, texts, and emails on Sunday afternoon. A Good Samaritan had scooped up this injured feral kitty in Alameda and he ended up at OakVet. He was in severe respiratory distress, basically in a coma. Because he had a microchip they were able to contact us. Thanks to excellent record keeping we were able to identify him. We made the decision to humanely euthanize this kitty 💔
He was at least 8 years old and surely had some folks looking out for him through the years. They are probably wondering why he hasn’t shown up for breakfast 😢
Thank you to those folks, the Good Samaritan, and to for being there for this guy.
🌈Rest in peace, Esperanza #14 🌈

Happy Monday 🫠 Puddin’ partied too hard last weekend and ended up with a broken arm! This darling little daredevil took a flying leap and landed hard. Even in the most experienced foster homes, accidents happen😿 Her foster mom noticed something was wrong (not always easy cuz cats are so good at hiding illness and injury) and took her to the vet. Next, she will be evaluated by a veterinary surgeon. Paws crossed for this sweet girl 😽😽 and for her foster mom who is gonna have to contain this rambunctious kitten while she recovers!

❤️❤️ FOUND! 🙏Thank you to everyone who kept an eye out for Matviy, shared the post, and sent good vibes! We are so grateful and so relieved the Matviy is now safe and back inside 😅
We received a sighting report last night and we were able to trap
Matviy this morning (5/22/2024) very early just before dawn. He had holed himself up in a backyard with a large decrepit playhouse for shelter that was only 5 houses away from where he was lost. It was on the other side of High Street so at some point he crossed that busy street at least once.

🖤Matviy is an adult cat, mostly white with dark almost black spots and blue eyes. No collar. Will be elusive and shy since lost after slipping out of a home where he was just adopted. He may be confused and have moved far away from where he was lost at 3200 block Central Ave, Alameda (between Fernside and High St.) Or he may be hiding out nearby, outside or in a garage or shed. He may turn up at a colony feeding spot.
Please keep an eye out and help us find Matviy! 🙏

💙💛ADOPTED!! We are thrilled to report that Mykola and Matviy were adopted a few weeks ago. These handsome blue-eyed brothers spent almost 2 years in their foster home. Their adoption came about through a volunteer experience where mom and kids were tending to and socializing many kitties. They got to know these bonded brothers and then when they were ready to adopt, the kids chose Mykola & Matviy to join their family 🥹🤍🖤💗

✌️Squirrel is sending chill vibes your way today ✌️ He’s a dude, he’s a bro, he’s Burt Reynolds on a bearskin rug and he’s available for adoption! Squirrel is a friendly, playful kitty who loves people, treats, and naps. He’s really into head butts, purring, and flopping around on the floor. 👉Check out the link in bio to learn more about Squirrel ❤️

We trapped this cat at one of our TNR project locations. We didn’t know it at the time, but he’s friendly. He’s in rough shape: URI, very unkempt, underweight, and has diarrhea. He’s convalescing with one of our volunteers and receiving antibiotics, a daily steam session (to help with congestion), dewormer, flea medication, as much food as he wants, and lots of pets 🧡 He will go to the vet for a full assessment when he’s feeling a bit better.
We don’t know what the future holds for him but we have our paws crossed for a major glow up 🤞🤞

🚨 We’re getting inundated with inquiries requesting help with newborn kittens. Some alone due to ailing or deceased moms and others with their moms. Here is just a sampling of the 21 (!!) newborn kittens currently in our care.
Donations are needed now more than ever as we try to keep up with the vet care costs for these little ones, including spay and neuter surgery once they’re old enough for adoption.
🙏 Donate at the link in bio. Any amount helps 🙏
🧡 The orange tabby mom is friendly and was found with her litter of 6 orange babies during an Easter Egg hunt at a family home in Oakland on Easter Sunday.
🖤🤎 The two tabby kittens (approx 3 weeks old) and now named, Ranger and Finn, have been bottle fed after their semi-feral mom was humanely euthanized due to severe illness. They’ve battled their own myriad of health challenges during their short lives thus far; including acute diarrhea, fever, and upper respiratory symptoms. Between the two of them they required five vet visits within the first week in our foster care. They’re hanging in there despite the odds for kittens this age.

On Easter Sunday, a volunteer caught Jughead, a cat with the remnants of a mason type jar around his neck. A big sharp piece came off outside the trap, then, as she was transferring him from a drop trap to the well padded box trap, he managed to get the whole thing off, himself! What a relief! He had a distinct left ear tip (indicating he’s neutered.) He is mellow, looks good, and is fed by a couple different people in the Oakland neighborhood where he was caught. After a good meal and some flea meds, he went back to his neighborhood. Everybody there is relieved.
The neighbors were all looking out for him — thankfully 🍀🩶🤍

It’s kitten season 😩 A community member reached out to us when she found two tiny kittens in the bushes. 👉The best practice is to watch and wait unless the kittens are in immediate danger. 👈
Then we saw mom cat and she has some serious eye stuff going on and cannot see well, if at all. We decided to bring everyone indoors and to separate mom and kittens. Kittens are in the care of an amazing bottle baby volunteer. Mom is resting comfortably while we figure out some options for her 🖤
Oh, and we trapped a pregnant cat on our way to pick up this mom & kittens 🫠
🗣️ Shoutout to all the community members lookin’ out for cats & kittens and to our volunteers who give their time, space, and expertise to make this all possible 🙏

🥰 Alumni update!
My husband and I adopted Sammi almost two years ago from ICRA. He’s a great cat !
🐈 Sammi was very skittish when he came to us but with much patience became more and more trusting over time. He is very loving and likes to be held and to take naps with us. He and our Tibetan spaniel snooze next to each other and occasionally even play together 💘
So thankful he came to live with us and thankful for all the work you do at ICRA finding homes for these cats.

🙌 Alumni Update! ❤️ ❤️ Tiny and Doja (aka Fluffy) are doing so great! It took about a month to slowly introduce them to our resident 3yo cat (Biggie), but now they are fully integrated, learning to play with their big brother, and teaching him cat manners. Tiny will be running the show around here and Doja just couldn’t be any sweeter. They are getting bigger and they are so much fun to play and cuddle with.
I want to give a huge thanks to Emma. Not only did she literally nurse these girls back to life and give them the most loving home to thrive in, she’s been an incredible resource and sounding board for me as we were introducing the cats to each other, a true gem! I can’t ever thank her enough for her help and guidance in this process.
This was a great experience…thanks also to Peggy and Merry for helping us bring these girls home! We are in love. 😻😻😻
