As the saying goes You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink 🙅‍♀️

With the recent drop in temperature you may have noticed that your horse is not drinking as much 🥶

Whilst it is not uncommon for horses to drink less in the colder weather, it is important that we take measures to ensure they remain hydrated. By not drinking, horse’s are put at a greater risk of dehydration and colic which can quickly become life threatening 🆘

Worried about your horse’s water intake? Check out some of our top tips for keeping them happy and hydrated this Winter 💧

Sometimes our older horses and ponies will need a little extra support throughout the Winter to help them look and feel their very best. Check out some of our top tips for keeping your veteran friends happy and healthy during the colder months 👇

✅ As horses age, their teeth become worn down, so they may require more frequent dental check-ups. Schedule your horse's dental appointment every 6 to 12 months.

✅ Where possible provide ad lib access to forage to ensure adequate fibre intake. Even if your horse is grazing, providing supplementary forage is important as grass nutrient levels will be poor in Winter.

✅ If your horse struggles to consume adequate amounts of forage, consider feeding a forage replacement mash such as Speedibeet or hay cubes.

✅ Horses with a more limited appetite can benefit from having healthy fats such as linseed oil added to their diet to increase the calorie content and help with weight maintenance.

✅ Older horses are less efficient at thermoregulating so may require a heavier rug than younger horses to help keep them warm and maintain condition.

✅ If you notice your horse becoming stiff consider adding a high quality joint supplement such as Alpha Gold to the diet to support joint health and mobility.

No hoof no horse - as horse owners we have probably all heard this phrase at some point 🙉

Regular farrier care is essential for maintaining healthy hooves. But if you’re noticing dry, cracked or brittle hooves you can also address this through dietary adaptations and management practices. Here are just some ingredients you can consider adding to your horse’s diet to keep their hooves looking and feeling great ⬇️

⭐️ Linseed oil - High in omega 3 fatty acids and protein both of which are essential for promoting healthy hoof growth.

⭐️ Chia seeds - A great oil-free alternative for providing omega 3 in the diet. Amino acids that are found in chia seeds support the synthesis of keratin, the structural protein of horse’s hooves.

⭐️ Brewers yeast - An excellent source of naturally occurring biotin which supports the growth of the hoof wall. Also acts as a probiotic to support to gut microbiome and aid nutrient absorption.

⭐️ Seaweed - A source of biotin and other nutrients that play an important role in supporting hoof health. Also high in naturally occurring anti-oxidants and helps support the metabolic rate.

If someone were to ask us what the best part of our jobs would be, it would definitely have to be hearing our customer's success stories and how our supplements are helping their horse's 🐴

Check out this recent review from one of our lovely customers. We thought it was too good not to share! 👇

"Parker has been on No more nerves and B-Complete for a few months now. Parker is an ex show jumper who can be highly strung and stressy and had got a bit sour jumping - this comes out as a lot of tongue tension and tension through the body.
He is doing very well at the moment and a few weeks ago we won the Regional Team Quest Dressage championships and we have nationals coming up next month!"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Massive congratulations for winning the dressage championships and best of luck at nationals! We are sure you and Parker will smash it 🤞🏆

At Equinutritive HQ there's nothing we love more than hearing our customer's success stories and seeing pictures of all their beautiful horses and ponies 🤩

We recently heard from our lovely customer Emma who has been feeding our B-Complete supplement to her handsome boy Glory. Check out what Emma has had to say here 👇

"B-Complete really helps my senior rescue Glory stay and feel comfortable and really helps with his digestion. Since being on B-Complete he’s not had any issues with his hind gut or any colicy episodes. Very pleased with this and it is now part of his daily diet."

🍂 Protect your horse this Autumn 🍂

At this time of year there is one thing on a lot of horse owner's minds, sycamore poisoning ☠️

Sycamore trees are possibly one of the most common trees in the UK. Unfortunately for us they are also one of the most deadly for our horses 🤕

Many sycamore trees contain a toxin called Hypoglycin A which is particularly harmful as there is no known anti-toxin for it available 💉

Check out some of our top tips for helping to keep your horse safe from sycamore poisoning here 👇
