Thank you Epic Outreach for your Shelter Dog Sunday shoutout! We so appreciate your kind words and special post 🐾🐾

We added links to our adoptable dogs, as well as those coming soon through our foster program in the comments!

🐕💗 We asked and you responded. Last week we wanted to know what local rescues we could feature for SHELTER DOG SUNDAY and someone shared about Fawn's Small Dog Rescue which is a local rescue in Northeast Florida helping smaller dogs.

🐕Visit their website to see some amazing small dogs like Arnold here who are looking for their forever families. Dogs of all breeds, shapes, colors, sizes, and personalities are seeking a second chance at living in a home with a family to love them unconditionally.

🙏 always consider adopting your next pet whether it's a dog, cat, bunny, horse, pig, or bird.

We welcomed Hannah on Saturday night. Sunday was so busy that we didn’t get a chance to announce this Mama-to-be until now!

We knew Hannah was due soon. On Tuesday in the wee hours of the morning, she brought 5 puppies into the world: 2 girls and 3 boys!

We need names for these cuties, we’d love your ideas!

For those curious about the additional 8 dogs and puppy that Papillon Pals Rescue, Inc graciously took into their organization and foster network. Here's their post with more details, pictures, and ways to support. Isn't our community great?!

As many of you know, last weekend Fawn's took in 10 dogs - miniature poodles, Shih Tzu and yorkie mixes - from a hoarding situation. This weekend we were supposed to pick up the remaining 15 dogs.

Upon arrival, we learned that there were actually 23 dogs including 1 puppy and 2 pregnant mamas! All of the dogs are safe with Fawn's and our partners at Papillon Pals. They are getting microchipped and receiving their initial volunteer assessments before they head to their foster homes.

Edit: Thankfully we have a wonderful community of rescues partnering with us. Our friends at Papillon Pals Rescue, Inc have taken 8 dogs into their care. We so appreciate them and their foster network. This allows us to focus on the 15 we originally committed to taking into our care.

As you know, the level of veterinary care that dogs from these situations need is high. We would love your continued support of Fawn's mission as we tend to these 15 new dogs and future puppies. Your donations are crucial as we get these dogs the care they need and deserve.

Thank you to our wonderful contributors and fosters! The work we do together continues to change lives for the better, whether it’s 1 dog at a time or 15 dogs.

Yesterday we received an absolutely fantastic response to posting a photo album for each of our Adoptable Dogs. Thank you so much for your kind words and album shares! We have many adoption applications to review and are so excited to find the right fit for our wonder Fawn's foster dogs.

Thank you for your patience as we review each adoption application and complete vet checks. As a volunteer-run organization, this level of due diligence takes time. We appreciate your understanding as we help each dog find their fur-ever family!

Important: The influx of new dogs we received today from the hoarding situation may temporarily slow down our Adoption Application review process. Know that we are doing our absolute best. Stay tuned on Facebook and check our website for updates!

Lilly is a special needs dog! She is 2 years, 10 lbs of terrier mix. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, and heart worm negative.

Lilly is a sweet and beautiful girl, she is skittish and timid. She tends to hide between meals, though may come out for a treat. When she feels comfortable, she may join you on the couch for belly rubs. Lilly is a back of the back of the pack kind of dog.

We have seen that Lilly thrives with fur-siblings and adapts more quickly to her environment when she has confident dog friends helping her. Lilly is a flight risk and requires a secure fenced in yard.

Biddy is lovely lady who is skittish and shy. While she is timid, Biddy has good leash manners and loves other dogs.

Arnold is a 25 year old, yes, you read that right, 17lb Toy Poodle mix.

Arnold is a distinguished senior gentleman. It is clear from Arnold's spunky personality that he was a treasured companion. He enjoys walks, naps, and loves being held and cuddled.

Arnold gets along with other dogs of all sizes, doesn't seem to mind cats, and loves people - especially men!

He does have some minor medical issues that we see in many older dogs. Arnold can see but has vision limitations due to cataracts. Arnold is good walker but needs help going down stairs due to the loosened ligaments in his back legs. He has some mild arthritis in his mid back that is managed with twice weekly medication.

Dusty is a 10-12 year old (est), 20lb Pekingese.

Dusty is a very loving boy, and will follow you around the house. He loves to cuddle and enjoys being groomed. In his previous life, he lived with cats and guinea pigs. He is dog, cat, and kid friendly and enjoys folks from all walks of life.

Dusty is frisky for his age but he does have some arthritis and/or IVDD ( Intervertebral disc disease). He is on inflammatory medication to help manage his pain. This means he must be picked up gently and carried carefully.

Harold is a handsome gentleman who has has had a tough go of it. During his vetting we discovered that he has pituitary-dependent Cushing's Syndrome that require medications for the rest of his life.

HAROLD IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

Harold is a 10+yr altered male Chihuahua mix. He weighs about 13lbs and is HW negative.here is what his FM has to say about Harold:

Harold is a 10 + yr old handsome gentleman that has, unfortunately, been dealt with pituitary-dependent Cushings Disease. He will require meds the rest of his life. Mr Harold is pretty much house trained if he is kept on a schedule. Harold is quite a fan of treats and snacks, and has a hearty appetite. He does not walk on a leash, although he will stay right with you while you walk. He has luxating patella’s which slows him down tremendously, although doesn’t stop him. He absolutely loves to wander in the yard and smell all the smells. He is a very inquisitive old guy, and loves to just hang out with you. Something a little different with him is that he doesn’t bark, he has a little whine and scream when he wants something bad enough, it’s cute but a little scary when you hear it for the first time. He gets along great with other dogs, although he must eat separate because he likes to help others with their food. He’s such a great helper. 😂 Adoption Donation $225

Yesterday was a good day for 11 lucky dogs. Fawn's took in 10 female dogs, miniature poodles, Shih Tzu and yorkie mixes from another hoarding situation. It was a long day. Kim and I spent hours microchipping, photographing, assessing and cutting mats out of these poor dogs. Than I began the journey to deliver them to their loving foster homes. Thank you to all of you that have sent in applications to help foster with this situation. I will be making more calls tomorrow if you have not yet heard from me. The pups are being vetted this week and most of them will be spayed on 1/24. This is a huge expense to the rescue all at one time. Please consider donating to help us help them. We thank you for your support!
The 11th lucky dog was Rex! FawnsSmallDogRescue.org

Rex is home! This is a story of hope, determination, perseverance and unconditional love.

On Thanksgiving morning 2024, one of Fawn's Small Dogs that was adopted over a year and half ago, went on a walk and slipped his collar after being spooked. Rex is a 3 year old Chihuahua mix that was staying at his human mom's cousins house while she and her son were out of the country on holiday. As soon as his mom learned Rex got loose and ran and kept running until he disappeared, she made arrangements to return home. Once home, she began hanging lost dog signs, talking with neighbors and mailmen, delivery drivers, etc. She learned that in a nearby hunting club some hunters had spotted Rex a day or two after he got away. Some chased him but he was too quick and ran deeper into the forest. Once Fawn's was notified we made plans to bring out trail cameras to locate Rex so we would know where to set a trap. We had his mom place out scent items so he would keep returning to the same area. We spent hours and days hanging signs in the surrounding areas. We asked our amazing trapper friend Jackie Pesola to assist and she graciously accepted. Jackie was instrumental in luring Rex to the cameras. The trail camera photos of Rex kept the hope of recovering Rex alive. Next step was to set up the traps. The challenge is when do we set them so we don't risk trapping wildlife and Rex learning the dangers of a trap? As challenging as this was, Rex had his own challenge. He was evading Coyote and Bobcat and hunters! Our cameras caught so many of the wildlife including deer, turkey, fox, other dogs, birds, armadillo. Almost every night we kept trapping opposum and raccoon. As soon as they were trapped, somebody had to release them so Rex would not see a trapped animal causing him to be afraid to enter the trap. This was a tiresome task. Rex's mom went every morning to bring fresh scent items, clean out the traps and re-bait them, she waited patiently everyday, re-baited them again in the evening, watched the cameras from her phone all night long, getting very little sleep. Day in and day out, rain, wind and cold, she kept at it with the help of her cousin and her husband. The landowner offered relief to let the animals out at night if they were trapped. Many days and nights would go by without a single photo of Rex on camera. Rex only appeared on cameras 9 unconsecutive days of the 6 weeks he was in the forest. On Sunday, January 12th, the 10th time he appeared, he was safe, in a trap. His mom rushed to the trap. She carried Rex in the trap and placed the trap in her car. At the house, she carried the trap with Rex inside, into the garage and closed the door. She opened the trap and the entire family was there to welcome him home. Rex was home. Happy. Warm. Fed. Safe, as a dog should be. Their determination, fueled by hope, and the unconditional love they had for each other made this a success story, not without the answered prayers from all of you!
