Many of you would have seen the new faces around the practice! Let us introduce Dr Simoné to those who have not yet had the pleasure, as she celebrates her year with us.
Dr Simoné, originally from the Joburg area, grew up knowing she was going to become a Vet one day. With her childhood animals ranging from an African Grey, hamsters, to horses and even a few ducks and chickens! At one stage she had a complete furry family of 42 on their family farm!
Her furry family now comprises of two cats, and a new husband! She enjoys seeing all sorts of patients and enjoys vaccinations and finding solutions to complicated cases. She enjoys the variety of surgeries she gets to do as a St Francis Vet and her expertise list of surgeries is growing more each day!
She has keen interests in orthopaedics and enjoys educating clients on joint care to limit a painful arthritic condition later in life. Simoné and her husband enjoy weekend hikes and being outdoors every chance she gets. Her cats, Whiskey and Storm (both rescues from St Francis Vet) are so spoilt and loved. They live comfortably in their own spacious catio and love watching the birds fly around also while supervising their "Pawrents" as they garden 🥰
😻A few clients have asked about our dear boy Oreo…well this handsome boy decided that he had enough of sharing his castle with other cats (forgetting he was a Practice Cat) and has found an unbelievably safe & happy home with wonderful clients! He now has a gang of 3 dogs to boss around and no cats in his space ☀️

Who remembers our sweet stray cat that came in a few weeks ago? After no-one coming forward & claiming the adorable boy, he immediately bonded with Tracey & he is now part of her forever family! Fuji, as he is now known, enjoys snuggling in her lap & hanging out with his dog friends. This is one lucky cat who has landed with his bum in the butter🥰🐈

🚨 Cape of Good Hope SPCA Cautions Public Following Confirmation of Rabies in Local Seal
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA urges the public to exercise caution following confirmation from the Western Cape Provincial Veterinary Services of a rabies case in a Cape Fur Seal along our coastline.
The affected seal was found off the coast at Big Bay and died on May 22, 2024, with laboratory results confirming rabies earlier today. A further two suspected cases from different areas are pending confirmation.
Rabies is a serious viral disease that can affect mammals, including humans, and is typically transmitted through bites or scratches from an infected animal. Rabies can also be contracted if the saliva from an infected animal comes into contact with the mucous membranes (eyes, nose or mouth).

🚨 Breaking News - Officials are investigating one confirmed case of rabies and a second suspected case, in the Capri community on the Cape Peninsula. The dogs were from the same household, and, as a precautionary measure, were humanely euthanised at a private veterinary practice. The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is in liaison with the State Vet and other authorities and we’re standing by to offer our assistance via proactive vaccination of animals in the area and wherever else necessary to prevent the spread of this deadly disease and to ensure the safety and well-being of both animals and the community.
Rabies is a viral and highly fatal disease that is mostly transmitted from animals to humans. It is transmitted mainly via a bite from an already infected animal, but exposure may also occur through contamination of broken skin or mucous membranes with saliva from an infected animal.
Vaccination of pets is the most effective way of protecting humans and animals from exposure to this potentially deadly virus. Vaccination of dogs and cats against rabies is compulsory in South Africa in accordance with the Animal Diseases Act, Act 35 of 1984. All dogs and cats must receive their rabies vaccination at 3 months of age, usually in conjunction with or at the same time as the normal 5-in-1 vaccine. A follow up rabies vaccination is due within one year and thereafter every three years. Rabies prevention starts with pet owners. Please protect yourself, your pet and your community by getting your animals vaccinated.

Dr George has a passion for all animals, warm or cold blooded! Dr George was able to job shadow at a local vet in 1996 and fortunate to also spend time at Onderstepoort. He knew the veterinary space was where he wanted to be! His Veterinary journey started after graduating in 2006, he went on to work for TAH, St Francis and spent many years at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA as the Head Vet. Dr George and his wife Jana decided to move abroad where they taught English in Taiwan and took to travelling at every opportunity. They returned to South Africa in 2018 and he has been based at St Francis Vet permanently since then. Dr George has quite the following with many of our clients, and his gentle ways with animals is always admired. He is our knowledgeable surgeon, who has a keen interest in soft tissue surgery, oncology and dentistry and thrives on explaining the complicated surgeries he has performed, to his patient’s parents. Dr George and wife Jana enjoy the outdoors, trail runs and walking their two adorable rescues Yuki and Wriggles. If you look for George on his days off, you’re guaranteed to find him in his community gardens, running up mountains or at the beach with his family!
