Parable after his surgery on the 28th of Oct.
I was somewhat concerned at how he would react upon returning home; but he stepped out of the crate and seemed genuinely happy to be brushing up against my legs again. His damaged ear (cauliflower ear) will remain, as it is scar tissue from too many fights. His damaged eye shows signs of healing, so there is a 50/50 chance that he'll have sight again.
I kept him inside for a week and a half to aid with healing. During this time, I mentally prepared to release him, with the hope that he would return on his own for continued feedings as well as warmth & safety. He tentatively sniffed the air from the open door, then stepped out, reacquainting himself with his turf. (I had been placing refuse from his litter box, into the flowerbed, so his scent would be present.)
24 hrs. passed and Parable had not returned, even though I kept checking and had left the porch door ajar for him.
I was feeling joy when I saw him 40 hrs. later, waiting for me under one of our vehicles!
I opened the porch door and called to him, he came to the door but did not come in until I popped the top on the canned cat food. He immediately brushed up against my legs, then promptly began eating. As it was raining, I decided to keep him inside overnight. The following day it was drizzling, so after he ate, I offered him freedom to roam by opening the door. He went out, turned around, sat facing the open door, scanned the area, meowed and then came back inside and stayed indoors for another night. He's out again today; but I am hoping the opportunity for freedom and safety will entice him to enjoy all the comforts on a regular basis.
Parable #3: The offering for Parable is unconditional & redeemable. Not unlike what God offers us. He never holds us hostage if we choose not to be held.

Parable is unaware that tomorrow is the big day... He'll become a kitten maker no more.

Update on "Missy"! (video with Missy(black dog) and a couple of her buddies, Marley and Greta).
Although we had the devastating diagnosis of Hermangiosarcoma, we are continuing with "hospice" care for our senior girl. She continues to do well and her joy of eating remains. Our Vet did add a Chinese herb to her daily care treatment, which aids in clotting and has potential anti inflammatory/anti cancer properties. We will continue keeping her comfortable and cherish each day we have with her.

As the saying goes: "The best laid plans"...
"Parable" escaped the crate he was captured in and is now free roaming on the porch of our little house. Thus, I set up a smaller crate with fleece material, a heat mat and covered it for comfort and warmth. He has decided it is acceptable.
Our relationship continues to be developmental. "Parable" will rub against my legs when I am with him, however, his hissing prohibits any attempt of touching. I have arrived at the conclusion that he simply is marking me as his food source. I'll take that as a win and wait patiently for more in the future.
Parable # 2: The Lord patiently awaits our acceptance of all He offers in order that our cup may runneth over. (Psalm 23)

And the "Parable" continues... His life represents an on-going story with elements which can be applied to our own life.
This battered street cat, with a fighting attitude, has a history with me. I've been attempting his rescue for a year.
We met Sept. of 2023 when this photo was taken. He then disappeared over the Winter months. I thought he had succumbed to the harsh realities of street life, so when he arrived under the car again in early Spring, I was shocked he was alive. For me it was a reunion, for him, food.
From that point I decided "not another winter on the street". Thus began anew, our tenuous relationship.
Parable #1: The cat being offered safety, nourishment and kindness, yet does not trust and runs away, only to return, partake and flee. Return. Repeat.
Not unlike the calling on our hearts, to come into a nourishing relationship with our Lord, in spite of where we've been in life or what we have experienced. As with 'Parable", we simply need to trust, even when we feel uncertainty.

This is the second time I've received a threatening notice from the supposed Meta Facebook Team. All looks legit; but is not. Whoever it was tried to log in as me. Facebook caught it; but I have to wonder how they don't seem to catch their own impersonators.

Missy girl went for a dental this past week that didn't happen...
Her blood work was not good, thus x-rays and ultra sound were done. There are concerning issues with anemia, liver and spleen. Top that with her pre-existing life long skin issues and age, the decision was made not to traumatize her or her body with more testing. She was happy to return home to the shelter and her fur buddies.
Positive notes: she continues to have a healthy appetite and enjoys her life, happy dances included!
Missy's care plan includes continued current medication, special diet, antibiotics, liver antioxidants, Immune Defense supplement and CBD(if needed).
We're keeping her comfortable, cared for and are optimistic that she will be with us for a good amount of time into the future.

Two emergency Vet runs for this little fella, and of course on a holiday weekend.
Thankful to say that after 3 days of hospitalization, he is home and on the mend. Snuggles is not 100% yet; but it sure was good to see his wiggle butt, tail waggin' leaps of joy when he saw me.

Miss Hedy, "Hedicus", "Grandmas Girl" (named after the actress/inventor Hedy Lamar)had a blow up of allergies which resulted in stuffy nose, head and red weepy eyes. Thankfully, after seeing our Vet for an allergy shot and eye meds, she is feeling much improved.
To say I am relieved is an understatement, as Miss Hedy is my Mother's cat. Mom had bottle fed and raised Hedy from just a few days of age. My Mother treasured her.
And near the time of my Mother's death, her having the knowledge that I would continue to lovingly care for her beloved feline, was a beautiful gift of peace which I could give her before she departed this world.
I feel passionately about families stepping up to give that peace and assurance to their family member who may be departing this life or are having to make lifestyle changes, regarding their companion animal. It is a selfless gift you can give; which blesses them, blesses their pet and blesses you. Caring for their companion is a comfort and feels like you have a piece of their love with you at all times.

Red had a health check today, and at 13.5 yrs of age, I was feeling nervous about what the results would be...
She arrived into our care when she was approx. 2-2.5yrs of age. She would not work cattle, so much of those first years of her life were spent chained to a 50 gallon drum.
In my initial meeting with her all those years ago, she presented with a sun burnt orange, brittle coat of fur and was terrified to be approached or touched.
In our Rescue, she was given space and time. Allowing her to choose what she was comfortable with tolerating. After many months, it was apparent that she would remain in our rescue. Although her physical appearance healed, her emotional trauma remained.
Her scars may not be visible; but I see them still to this day. Her extreme mistrust of people. The panic which overwhelms her if there is any deviation from her daily routine. Or, if I am simply out of her sight.
It is a humbling honor and an enormous responsibility, to realize that you are a safe harbor, for the well being of another life.
Thankfully, if an A+ on blood work results is an indicator... Red and I will be blessed with an unbroken bond, and the joy of continued travel through this life together.

I think this is worth sharing and I am going to make some additions.
Borders Without Boundaries is at full capacity. We do not euthanize unless it is medically necessary, therefore, we are currently at sanctuary status for the dogs/cats already in our care: the elderly, medical special needs and behavioral special needs. And yes, we love each of them and their unique personalities. So when you call or write, asking to give the "gift" of puppies/kittens you have, because you did not find it important to have your dog/cat spayed/neutered(in some cases at no cost), in order to avoid the apparent result... I can only respond with "no", because it would be irresponsible to take in more when we are already stretched to the max financially and physically. Not to mention the emotional upset created for those already in our care. Yes, one more dog or one more cat does make a difference to the balance of the entire community of animals(intake and residents alike).
We also have to isolate new arrivals for at least two weeks to be certain they are not harboring disease, before we can even consider introducing them to the in-house residents or community for adoption. This entire process can take weeks to months.
My recommendation is to make wise choices, being brutally honest with yourself regarding your capacity to provide and care for another living being for their lifetime, because your choices don't just affect you.

We are looking to find loving homes for these two girls, as their elderly owners are having to make living location changes.

Both are spayed, vaccinated, indoor cats only. 4 yrs of age.
Fraya is the white female, sweet tempered, enjoys cuddling.
Sassy is the yellow tabby female, timid; but likes petting when she chooses.
They do not need to be adopted together; but both will require a home(s) where they will be allowed to safely adjust to their new surroundings.

The BEST CASE UPDATE!!!! It took a village and all of you...
Missing 13 days... Ohana has just been found!
Immense, intensive local campaign... No sightings no leads... Vehicle and driver were found..... Ohana appeared out of no where down the street from her home.
Thank you to the family who brought her home.
No blame no speculation...
Just one very happy family and a young dobie that has some bumps but looks great.
Thank you all for all the tips... Congrats to Ohana and her diligent family!

Case UPDATE: The Search for Ohana… Missing Young Doberman Pinscher Female
Location: Rural Kearney, Nebraska, southeast of Riverdale near W 100th St, Cottonmill Ave and Highway 40

During the investigation into what happened to Ohana, certain facts and probabilities were discovered.

First, we know that Ohana collided with the truck pictured as we have the whole accident on surveillance camera. In no way do we or Ohana’s family blame this driver as the fault for the collision seems to fall on the young dog. That said we would like to talk with the driver as our videos show the driver staying in the area for a period of time before driving off in the direction the K9 TEAM found as Ohana’s scent trail. We would only like to talk with the driver.

There is no blame intended… we just have questions as the vehicle goes in the direction Ohana did and then the scent ends… and there has been no leads or sightings since the day of the accident.

Please SHARE… and do not lay blame as we need to talk with the driver to find out what he/she knows or saw in regard to the minutes after the accident.

Thank you ~Karin
