Dog Gone Seattle A 501c3 dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs at risk for euthanasia through foster care and adoption. In 2017 DGS was awarded 501c3 non-profit status.

Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 Dog Rescue dedicated to saving dogs at risk for euthanasia. Dog Gone Seattle founded by Jenny DB Nordin began as a resource for dog owners providing information on dog-friendly establishments and activities in the greater Seattle area. Over time there was less time for exploring dog-friendly Seattle and more time spent "saving dogs" and in 2016, Dog Gone Seattle - the n

on-profit organization was born! DGS is committed to saving dogs from high kill shelters in WA and beyond through rescue, foster and adoption. Since 2017 we have saved over 5,000 dogs from imminent euthanasia. We have a community of hundreds of fosters and volunteers in the greater Seattle area who make this life-saving work possible. Follow us and get involved as we save one dog at a time!

We want to give a big shout out to some very special fosters. They may or may not have nice couches, but they sure have big hearts and extraordinary skills with the most dejected, terrified dogs. We love you guys.

Rebecca and John are not your average fosters. They're pretty damn exceptional. This tribute lends credence to why their advice on all things fostering matters.

Sweet Gwen has arrived to foster care and is officially done with her life on a chain. Just a baby herself at about 2 years old, she's already had more than one litter. She cared for the pups outside with little shelter in the heat and rain, on a heavy chain. A concerned neighbor was able to get her and pups relinquished and found homes for the puppies. Now, it's Gwen's time to shine! She will be available for adoption once we get to know her in foster care.

More pets are lost on July 4th than any other day of the year, and many will not be reunited with their owners. This is the worst time of year for the shelters and we want to make sure dogs in our community stay safe throughout this holiday.

Sweet adoptable Olivia has a few quick tips for staying safe this holiday weekend!

🎇 Make sure your dog is wearing ID at all times! Have a current, clear photo of them that identifies any unique markings.
🎆 Leave them in a safe, secure place if you are not home, preferably a crate or quiet room.
🎇 Leave background noise on as it can help drown out the booms.
🎆 Don’t leave your dogs outside unattended. More than 50% of dogs will hear fireworks and go into flight mode. Leashed or supervised potty breaks are best over the next few days. Remember dogs can slip out of collars and harnesses, so a martingale or a slip lead is the safest way to walk this holiday.
🎇 Leave a raw frozen bone or a frozen Kong in the crate; it can help distract them and keep them occupied.

From all of us at DGS, have a safe and happy Independence Day 🇺🇸

Meet the Peter Pan litter! They were surrendered to our rescue by a family in eastern Washington when pups were just two weeks old. They've been lovingly cared for in a foster home with momma Wendy, who is less than 20 lbs and likely a mix of Spaniel, Heeler and Chihuahua. Itty bitty pups -- Mr Smee, Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Tinkerbell and Tiger Lily -- are now over eight weeks old and ready to move along to new foster, foster-to-adopt, or adoptive homes. Meet sweet Sundae! This lovable hound joined us from a high kill shelter in Georgia via Project Freedom Ride and somehow has been with us for 15 months! Sadly, her first adopters had to return her when they faced a family crisis and so, Sundae waits patiently in foster care until her forever is found.

This girl is house-trained, crate-trained, and has never met a stranger. She loves everyone and, unlike some hounds, is very affectionate. She plays fabulously with dogs of all sizes and could live with a dog-savvy cat as well. We think she would enjoy the farm life as she has no prey drive for farm animals or chickens. Good girl, Sundae! And yes, her ears are as soft as they look.

While Sundae is not barky like many hounds, we jest that she has a leak, as she tends to be whine -- when she is happy, excited, bored, or just because. Maybe she just likes the sound of her own voice. While this behavior may be a no go for some, we're confident her person is out there! For more info on Sundae, comment below or email [email protected], or share this post to help us find her family.

Today, we were asked to help these dogs who have been held at a Waste Treatment Facility in San Joaquin for months. Temperatures are now over 100 degrees and these dogs sit and wait on asphalt for someone to come, but no one does – except the city employee who drops a bowl of dog food and water once a day Monday thru Friday. This “shelter” has no website, no adoptions, and no resources. The only way these dogs will leave this “shelter” is with a rescue.

Admittedly, sometimes rescue feels like a Herculean task. We will never empty the shelters. We will never save them all. But we work every day to save one dog at a time with a village of dedicated fosters and volunteers who give their time and love freely and together, we make a difference.

As a foster-based organization, our capacity is determined by our network of foster homes. We cannot do this life-saving work without our village of people – people just like you – who open their hearts and homes to a dog in need. We are community doing heroic work but we are normal people just like you. We work full time. We are unemployed. We have dogs, cats, chickens, and newborn babies. We have no pets. We go on vacation. We remodel our houses. We have out-town-guests. And we foster.

Almost anyone can be a foster family. You can be a hero to a dog. You can save a life.

Please, please, please help us get these forgotten dogs out. They need you.

If you have ever even thought about fostering, now is the time. There is no perfect time. The time is now.

Apply online: www.doggoneseattle.org/foster-application

We provide vet care and any supplies needed including a crate and food. You offer a transitional home for a dog for a couple of months. We provide a dedicated case manager to support you throughout the process. You join a community of fosters and volunteer heroes who are making a difference in this crazy world.
