As you may have already heard, after 13 years and thousands of dogs rescued, Dogma Animal Rescue has closed.
Duane put his heart and soul into this rescue and we salute him for 13 years of hard work, sacrifice and heartbreak to make a difference in the lives of each of these animals.
We would like to thank No Boundaries Animal Rescue and Dogwood Animal Rescue Project for stepping in and making sure every animal currently in foster care or already adopted is taken care of. The rescue community is tightknit and amazing – we all understand the difficulties of rescue and we take care of eachother and the animals.
Like many of my fellow fosters for Dogma Animal Rescue, I adopted my foster dog, Luna, from Dogma in March, 2022.
Luna was a 3 year old Rottweiler, suffering from untreated diabetes. As she continued to suffer from diabetes, the children in the home fed her more and more, even candy, to fatten her up. A neighbor became alarmed at Luna’s deterioration, arranged for the owners to surrender her, and sent out a message to rescues.
Luna arrived emaciated at 42 lbs. Her intake picture shown here is still difficult to look at.
Her blood glucose was so high that it didn’t register. We honestly weren’t sure she would survive. She was too emaciated to be spayed, but her hormones wreaked havoc on our attempts to lower her blood glucose so that she could gain weight. She slept on a thick padded bed as every one of her bones protruded.
Even worse, we discovered upon her arrival that she was blind from the diabetes.
After many adjustments in her food and insulin, her weight creeped up. She was spayed, and over the course of many months she gained weight.
Luna is now 78 lbs. She has a pitbull “brother”, who she adores. They wrestle, argue, and sleep together. Luna goes for walks on creek trails every day, and has gone on camping trips and hikes with us. She has a huge crate of chew toys to pick from, adores people and is extremely happy and loving.
Luna’s story of rescue and redemption is one of thousands that Dogma has handled. Dogs that were abandoned, abused, neglected, or just ran out of time at the shelter and placed on death row.
Luna and I wholeheartedly thank Duane for rescuing her so she could live out her best life.
If any adopters would like to comment and add a pic of their dog, we would love to hear from you!
