As today is World Spay Day, a reminder that current WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) guidelines are discouraging routine-neutering and favouring a case-by-case basis. It is also vital that awareness is raised of the alternative sterilisation procedures that spare s*x hormones (vasectomy and hysterectomy).

Sweet, pure, refreshing WATER… the elixir of life… is law No. 3. 💦
It’s been calculated that carnivores eating a species appropriate raw food diet receive around 80% of their daily water needs from the meat itself. That leaves a minimum of 20% that the humans in their life need to provide. Depending upon activity level and heat/humidity at any given time, they may need more.
The purity of water is paramount. Municipal water supplies are routinely treated with chlorine and most cities add fluoride, too. Both are toxins which have severe adverse effects on the health of us and our companions. Use a purification or filtration system for safety.

EXERCISE is Law of Health No. 2
Exercise is so much more important for health than simply a way to expend energy. Movement is needed to grow and stay strong, remove toxins from the body, exercise the mind, and balance emotions.
Animals were meant to move on a daily basis. This is not optional. So get outside and enjoy some exercise with your dog! 🐾

🐾When Will I See Results in My Pet?
Most clients report fairly rapid results.
Best results come through positive changes and the persistence to maintain these long enough for the body to re-align its natural state of balance.
In chronic illness, the client can expect to undergo at least one month of therapy for every year the illness has resided. The Animal Naturopath attempts to support the animal’s own system to address the imbalance(s) that have damaged its health.
The road to health can be quite complex. An Animal Naturopath is an important ally in building a wellness plan.

NUTRITION is the No. 1 Law of Health in Animal Naturopathy because it’s the very foundation of health. All animals need to eat a diet appropriate for their individual species.
For example, cattle, goats, sheep, and rabbits are all “herbivores”- they eat grass and leaves, and browse on tender tree bark and needles, too. Pigs and poultry are “omnivores”- along with grass and grain, they can also readily digest protein like meat and insects. Dogs, cats, and ferrets are “carnivores”- they need meat, organs, and bone in order to thrive, but if need be can survive by scavenging on other items in addition.

The goal of an Animal Naturopath is to help the animal feel better without causing harm or uncomfortable side effects, rejecting the use of drugs and surgical intervention.
They respect the expression of symptoms as the body’s attempt to heal and know that symptoms are not the disease or the cause of disease.
Animal Naturopaths have been trained in, and have the ability to determine the underlying cause of illness and to stimulate the body’s own healing ability. This is why animal naturopathy can be so effective where other systems fail.

🐾What Happens in a Consultation?
A health and lifestyle assessment of the animal is taken. The Animal Naturopath takes into consideration the complex interaction of physical, mental, emotional, genetic, and environmental factors when assessing an animal.
A health plan in relation to the individual animal will be discussed. If needed, the animal may be referred for laboratory or other tests, or to a specialist for further consultation.
A Follow-Up call is scheduled for 4 weeks after any regimen is started.

🐾 What Conditions Can Animal Naturopaths Help? 🐾
Animal Naturopaths can address most conditions and health challenges.
Although they don’t replace veterinarians, they fill a gap in guiding pet owners on the steps needed to help their companions achieve optimal health. Animal Naturopaths do not “diagnose or prescribe”.
Animal naturopathy can be used alone or in tandem with conventional veterinary medicine.
