Update on Bandit 🐾🐾
He's doing really well and enjoying his hydrotherapy and walks too.
Here is enjoying his playtime with his favourite toy 😂

22/08/2024

Here she is.... she was so happy to see us. She even barked at a fellow border! She's still no where near back to herself. But mentally she seems so much happier. I will update more on her progress. Without everyone's help on this wonderful group, none of this would be made possible. Thank you all so very much. Ps the ferry crossing to get her was pure hell 😅 but so worth it 🥰

Hi all.

Little update, nothing much to report. Rosie is staying in for at least another 24 hours, I have a feeling it will be longer. I asked for a picture of her as I am so desperate to see her as we all are.
No results back and still no actual diagnosis, have been asking each time do we know what it is, mentioned meningitis before , so. No further forward but I do have the help and support from Vanessa Jessop and the Border Terrier Welfare UK

Here is our little girl.. I am saying our girl because I feel like she has been shared in to all of our thoughts are hearts

A very small update on little Rosie.

The vet called me this morning , she explained that they are looking in to neurological tests which they have done, they have done a spinal tap, she is on her beds, eating and being kept comfortable.

The vet said she is getting a lot of fuss, which I know she will be loving right now, and missing her mum dad and sister with the long nose.

She has said ( and I cried when she told me) that she was wagging her tail. Some movement on her back leg but front right and back right not any movement as yet. But she did manage to manoeuvre her way round the crate, which is more than when I saw her yesterday morning, she was totally paralysed which was the scariest thing for her and us.

She will be in for more days at least.

We are all do thankful for the support you have given.

And , will update more later this afternoon when we know more. Here's a few pics of her from when she was being her normal little scamp like self. More photos of Rosie in the comments x

Rosie could use some help from her friends 🐾

Help Rosie Walk AgainRosie, Our beloved border terrier suddenly lost the ability to walk due to a potential slipped disc. In just a few days, she went from happily enjoying her walks to being completely paralyzed. She urgently needs surgery, but our insurance won’t cover any more costs, and we’re facing an overwhelming vet bill. We’re asking for your help to get Rosie back on her paws. Any support you can offer would mean the world to us. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Morag could use a little help, she needs to have her gall bladder removed and veterinary costs have superceded the insurance limit. See further details in the link. Thank you.

Morag has to have surgery to remove her gall bladder and without the surgery she is not going to make it.

Update on Anita and Bandit 💙 22nd July

Hi guys, I’m sorry I've not had contact with you for ages. Bandit is doing absolutely fine he still going to hydro and doing very well. He has now started back with his aunty Joyce having a walk around the field on his long lead for now meeting some of his friends. Only on a Monday and I give him his half hour on a Tuesday he goes to hydro Wednesday so she is making sure there is no stiffness then I give him his short walk Thursday because he’s always tired after he has had hydro then he goes with his aunty Joyce on a Friday again. Then I give him his half hour Saturday and Sunday. He really has come on in leaps and bounds. I’m the one who’s struggling at the moment I still can’t believe I’m still all bruised on my tops and sides of my toes and the top of my feet from having the nerve block injections they don’t seem to be working yet but I suppose while the bruising is still there they have time to work yet so im keeping my fingers crossed because the pain is terrible 24/7 living on painkillers and not much sleep. In fact Bandit has the bed to himself most of the night every night and he loves it. I have got to go in and make him get up on a morning ( but I don’t mind after what he’s gone through) bless him. I promise you he will send you a message later on in the week. I just wanted to touch base with you all. I feel like I’ve neglected you all but I’ve got a lot on at the moment. Love Anita and Bandit ###

Bandit this morning.
Boy o Boy this little brown bear has got up this morning with a spring in his step. I went at his pace when he stopped I stopped. I can’t believe it he was like this for about 15 mins but I can tell when he’s starting to slow down then it’s reel him in and slow him down. He walked for 40mins 15 mins with a proper spring and 25 mins walking at the side of the scooter. His little cocktail of meds must really be kicking in now. I might try some myself🤣because I’m in pain with my feet but they are still all bruised around the area where he injected them so time yet. Anyway look at Bandit on this video. WHAT A HERO. He wants to pass a message onto you all so watch out for it coming in the next day or 2. Love Anita and Bandit xx

Update Bandit 4th July
I managed to get bandit to hydrotherapy yesterday it was my first time driving since the procedures on my feet on Friday it wasn’t pleasant and it’s a good job it’s only 10 mins away. Bandit did very well but he was very taken up with the student and the tube of primula cheese. It was nice having the student there yesterday because at least I could sit in the chair and watch him.
Love Anita and Bandit xx

Bandit update 31st May
Bandit had his hydro today. He did ok but struggling with his right hind leg still that was the one that he had surgery on 1st and it’s not doing as well as his left one. I took a copy of his operations that paragon had done on his knees and she’s going to have a read of them later. She thinks his right hip is contributing towards the reason his not right leg isn’t functioning properly but other than that he is really doing quiet well he’s back again on Tuesday

Message from Baxter’s family

Yesterday we lost our little man, and words will never describe the hole that has been left. He was a unique character, and we were so very blessed to have him in our lives.

We know that right now the grief and pain is at the forefront, but we’ll focus on the love, the memories and everything Baxter was to us and those who met him. He was a National Trust dog who captured people’s hearts. He had cuddles with Alan Carr and met Clare Balding during television filming at our work, modelled for Forthglade the dog food company, and demanded attention wherever he went.

As Border Terrier owners and lovers, you know how we feel. And we have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and kindness, and the incredible generosity towards his astronomical hospital bills.

The help and assistance of Border Terrier Welfare has been a light in the dark, and we wanted to say a huge thank you. This truly is the most special community, and we’re privileged to be part of it.

💔 Goodbye sweet boy.
Baxter just couldn’t keeping fighting off the infections, they were spreading and he was ready to go. He had cuddles and kisses as he went to sleep.
He was the most incredible, funny, stubborn and amazing friend to us. We will miss you 💔

Baxter needs some help from his friends 💙

Our beloved Baxter is very sadly on his 16th day of being an inpatient at Langfords Small Animal Hospital in Bristol. Baxter is 10 years old and lives with us in South Devon, spending every day with me at work for the National Trust (he's been nicknamed the Barketing Manager in the office).

On Saturday 11 May he was really poorly so we took him to our local vets. Initial scans showed darkness with his gallbladder and we were referred to Langfords Small Animal Hospital where imaging confirmed gallbladder mucocele. His gallbladder was removed on Monday 13 May and the op was a success. He was making very slow but good recovery until he went downhill, and had to be rushed back into theatre a few days later - his gastric feeding tube had caused an abscess near his stomach. He had to then have the feeding tube removed and stomach sutured, with a new feeding tube inserted into his neck.

He ended up suffering with oesophageal soreness because of the reflux, regurgitation and the tube and was effectively on Gaviscon for dogs whilst also on antibiotics, pain relief, fluids and liquid feed. Almost a week later he seemed to be doing really well, was off all IV's and eating and drinking well. Langfords were happy and we were planning to bring him home at the weekend, but he went downhill Friday night with massive swelling in his legs and around his neck, with a high temperature and racing heartbeat.

Turns out he now has a second abscess in his leg, caused by the first abscess. The brilliant team at Langford's have made him comfortable and he's back on IV's and eating small bits of chicken and liquid feed.

They have offered us two options - open the abscess and let it drain (like they did the other one), or have a 3rd operation which is more intensive to remove it. They’ve offered to reduce the cost by 50% but would still be another £2k plus the extra fees associated with overnight stays/meds ect. The vet bill is currently just under £13,000 and our insurance policy only covers £1,000 per illness.

Even with this cost, me and my partner have discussed it and we are both in agreement that we don’t want to put him through another invasive surgery and general anaesthetic. He’s already had 2 major ops and this is another major one, all within the space of 2 weeks, at his age.

Today, Tues 28 May, we spoke with the Soft Tissue Specialist at Langford's. His second abscess has ruptured itself, so they are keeping it clean and letting it self-drain. The next 48 hours is crucial - if he improves, he could come home as an outpatient under the care of our local vets. If he doesn't, it's either investigate surgery to see what's going on and put in drains (which isn't a guarantee it'll work) or stop all treatment.

I'd like to say the biggest thank you to Border Terrier Welfare for their support in assisting us with Baxter, and for letting us share this page (set up by my dear friends) to help us: https://www.gofundme.com/f/rpxv3-help-baxter
