I have had several people ask about December clinics and lessons. I have decided our next clinic is December 8th from 1-5 here in Crete. There is a good chance this is the last one for the year, we will see. Just like last weekend, there is no set “theme”, but going to work on individual issues. There is a 4 person minimum and 6 person max for this clinic. $50 pre paid holds your spot. Please message with any questions or to sign up.
I have also had several people ask about weekday private lessons for their kid during Christmas break. If you are wanting a spot for yourself or kid please message as spots are filling up. Thanks!

Horse Awards! See you all there!

Horse Awards Night, Oct. 3
The annual Lancaster County 4-H Horse Awards Night will be Thursday, Oct. 3, 6:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Extension Education Center, 444 Cherrycreek Road, Lincoln. The Horse VIPS Committee will provide snacks. Awards presentation includes Incentive Awards, Horsemanship Levels, All-Around Awards, Herdsmanship, Top Judging buckles and ribbons, as well as a few surprise awards! Come help celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the 2019 Lancaster County 4-H equestrians!

The State 4-H Horse Exposition is held annually at Fonner Park in Grand Island, NE. This year the Expo will be held July 14-18, 2019. The Expo includes the state horse show, hippology contest, and horse judging contest, as well as additional activities. Future State Horse Show Dates:

Prairie Star 4H hosted a final event of 2018 was a full Saturday clinic with Morgan Snyder and Diane Usher on December 29, 2018.

We had a large group of our members who bundled up and rode and watched both sessions. The were so many moments of learning and laughter that made the cold seem inconsequential.

Morgan started the morning session off with a little bit of math, a little bit of sports references, and a sprinkle of physics. I thought we were on Christmas break and school had paused but what came out in all of his teachings was that horses and life are truly entertwined with all of life's principals.

Morgan shared some of my favorite "Morgan-isms" that I have learned in the past year.

First, we think if we practice we get perfect and we will see progression. Morgan took Vince Lombardi's belief that "practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect." If we take that one more step, if we practice perfectly then we see progress. Once we see progress, then we continue to grow and achieve our goals.

Morgan also uses the belief that if we improve 1% every day then in 100 days we will be 100% better. County fair is a little over 240 days away...so we can all be 240% better by then if we practice perfectly and improve incrementally. How cool is that?!

Morgan helped each 4h member and his ability go teach transcends the western discipline. We are lucky to have him in our group to help us grow. Thank you each and every one who rode and listened to him this cold wintery Saturday.

Once we had cocoa and lunch the next clinic was our introduction to jumping. Diane Usher graciously shared her knowledge about saddle fit, tack, jumping safety, and got our 4h members ready for their journey to jumping. They learned to sit in the two point position, how to slow down their horses, and how to go over trot poles. The entire class improved so much by the end of the clinic that Miss Addi told me that "I love Annie and you have a new jumping kid in your club." Diane helped Sidney and Sam demonstrate the next level of jumping for our younger members. Through this portion of the clinic, our club is multi-disciplinary and I bet we add more jumpers to our class events this year.

Our new club members, Jordyn, Olympia, Julia, and Jose, and Hope, all learned a lot between the two clinics and are excited to start employing the lessons demonstrated in the clinics. One of my favorite pictures is when Hope gave Mercy a hug because Mercy was cold. Warm hugs to make everyone and everything better. This picture embodies the heart and focus of our club. 💖

I want to also give a HUGE thank you to people who helped get this Saturday clinic come to fruition. Jenae Tilford thank you for helping us feed in the morning so Sidney could ride:)! Thank you to Jay for finishing stalls so I could be in the arena assisting. Jamie Carman, our club wouldn't be a successful without you and your beautiful facility.We appreciate you letting is grow and learn! Sidney Froistad and Samantha Fox, you two are my most SR members in our club and you both helped make this happen. You both helped our younger members tack up, warm up horses, rode, and even figured out how to put on an impromptu showmanship clinic. I am in awe of you both! And finally, thank you Morgan Snyder and Diane Usher for teaching us on a cold December day. We do appreciate you very much!

Bring on 2019. We are ready.
