Dogs of all sizes, ages, and energy levels need daily walks to stay physically and mentally healthy. During the summer, more people opt for walking their dogs later in the evening to avoid the heat of the day.
For those situations, you can help stay visible to drivers by using a light-up leash or a flashing collar charm. These tools have the added benefit of increasing your dog's visibility if they get away from you while on your walk!
July is #LostPetPreventionMonth, and we will be sharing tips related to preventing pets from being separated from their families and what you can do if those preventions are not enough to keep your pup home.
Our last post for #PetPreparedness month features our handsome boy Huck!
Did you know more pets go missing in July (specifically the 4th of July weekend) than any other month?
While microchip IDs are beneficial tools to help reunite dogs with their families and are highly encouraged, ID tags are also essential. ID tags are readily accessible, inexpensive, and can help reunite a dog with their family even faster.
ID Tags can be customized and purchased online (Amazon and Chewy are some of our favorites) or even at your local Meijer!
We hope our #PetPreparedness posts have given you some ideas for keeping your best friend safe and happy no matter the situation. We will pick back up next month with posts related to July's observation of Lost Pet Prevention Month.
New puppy parents are bound to hear the term "socialization" about 100 times in the first week of bringing their pup home, but what does that really mean? Check out our post below for some quick tips and advice to help your puppy grow into a confident and happy adult dog!
Jade and Jett 🐾
-Alumni Update-
Jade (the German Shepherd) was in our very first pilot class back in June of 2019.
Jade needed to work through some bahavioral issues stemming from a very rough start in life before she found her forever home. She was fearful of any dogs who would come near and would show explosive fear-aggression displays in an attempt to protect herself from other dogs.
She now is an amazing big sister to Jett, a Golden Retriever puppy! To say that Jade has come a long way is an understatement, and we are so proud of her and her fantastic owners for all their hard work! Adding another pup to their family was a goal that Jade’s owners worked extremely hard to achieve.
Welcome to the Riverside pack Jett, your big sister has worked so hard to be able to have you join the family! 💕
(Video was shared with the permission of Jade & Jett’s wonderful owners.)
Any dog, small, large, old or very young (awe at the puppy at the end of the line!) can walk on a calm loose leash even in a busy park!
Great job for our classes finishing their week three lesson. Remember that consistency is key!
