Well this weekend we had our second competition for WE at the Brookleigh Working Equitation Club.
Alvaro was slightly tense at the start of his warm up but we worked through it all nicely working on his body control, speed control and lateral manoeuvres. I was extremely happy with how he worked and we were ready to enter for our maneability test.
Maneability: we walked in the arena and I felt Alvaro get tense so I refocused him to me quickly with an exercise and then the judges were ready for us so off we went. First up was the pole pick up, ring and pole drop off, this wasn’t the best as he wanted to go straight passed so pulling him up got a bit “ugly”. The ring worries him when it slides up the pole which I know and we are working on but the drop off wasn’t too bad for him just need to keep him straight. The single salone was challenging as he just wanted to rush through it all, the side pass pole was ok but I needed to just hold him from creeping forward. Happy with the varied torraine and jump, drizabone pick up he was just unsettled at halt but happy with him travelling 🤗 3 barrel pattern got a bit wild and western there for a minute needing him to settle back with relaxation and flexion. Corridor and bell was ok and the gate 😬, well what can I say.... still not one of his strengths and this time when I asked his hips to move around he just wanted to move out so instead of getting theee refusals I moved on.
Lots to work on still and excited moving forward!
