Well, we have another delivery.
It seems like it's puppy season and the irresponsible people are dumping the poor babies on us again.
So what can we do? We look after her the best we can. Look at that little face...

Dasha is less than 2 months old and needs vaccinations, worming and special food. And we need space!

If anyone would like to adopt the little one, please get in contact with us.
Or consider donating to help her costs.

Also if you can help spread the word to get our other dogs adopted, this would help a lot. We had our numbers down almost to our target but 8 new puppies in 2 weeks has really impacted our progress. We have had only a small few adoptions this year.

Seven wonderful puppies are looking for the best home🐾

One month ago they were found abandoned near the shelter. Our shelter is absolutely full so we are urgently looking for a forever home.

The puppies are treated for parasites, vaccinated, healthy and ready for adoption. They are really smart and playful. Some of them are shy, the others are more curios and brave so you can choose the character you prefer:)

A surprise we could have done without!
7 little puppies were left outside the shelter last week. They are very sweet, but 7 is a lot on top of all the animals we already have!
They are now safe at least, and we are looking already for homes for them. Hopefully they won't stay long at the shelter.

MIA IS RESERVED FOR ADOPTION!

A supporter of our shelter has been fostering this little dog, so we share with hope that we can help find a great forever home.

Mia was found on Serbian Christmas morning and since then she has been checked, dewormed, vaccinated, neutered, and has learned to live in a home. Mia is one year old and 9kg, a great small dog that will not grow more. She is very loving, fun and even a little cheeky (the terrier in her!) and will be a great addition to a home. She is fantastic with kids and other dogs. She would be best suited for a home with a fenced garden, but she is also used to living in an apartment. Mia has also had her rabies shot, she has her chip and even a clear titer test so she can travel from mid-June. She is based in Belgrade though happy to drive her nearby if there is serious interest. Please feel free to reach out or share if you know anyone who may be interested in adopting Mia.

Hi followers, it's Liz here. I just spent 4 days visiting the shelter. I was impressed that the dog numbers are down to 57, although we really need adoptions as we have a few new dogs.
With the help of volunteers Katie and Antigone, I was able to do some work with some of our nervous dogs and walk a few who just love it. I got to know the new dogs which is important. A big achievement was that we pulled down one small enclosure, less space for new dogs now and more enrichment space for existing dogs! And we built a little fence to protect the cemetery to pay our respect to animals who passed.
I was so appreciative of the work done there every week by dedicated volunteers, especially Antigone and the Svora volunteers, lead by Dasha. Without these helpers, Mirica and Natasa would not be able to care for the animals.
We have a lot of senior dogs now, we have lost some recently and the others have increasing health care needs.
We will share some dogs that really need adoption in the coming days, so please help us to share and find adoptions, donations, new volunteers and anything you can help with.

Look at this little pocket rocket!
Bella was bought from a breeder but put out on the street by her owners, obviously it's very unsafe for her outside so we have taken her in.
She is a two year old, 4kg maltese terrier, generally quite social, fine with our other dogs. She can be a persistent, she has some sass, but nothing unexpected or difficult for a dog from an unstable background. She is not sterilised or chipped yet but it will be done, she was vaccinated.
We are hoping to find a good home for her locally if possible. If someone abroad is interested there will be a four month wait before her veterinary paperwork is ready.
Bella is a dog, even if she is small, and has the same needs as any dog. She will only go to a family who will treat her with respect and not treat her like a toy.

🌈 Ada 🌈
Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful, unique Ada at the age of 17.
Ada was in the shelter most of her life and was such a unique soul. She carefully chose who she wanted to spend time with and only these people were privileged enough to get to stroke her sweet little face.
She had been ageing quickly in the past few years and moved inside to live with Mica, then Mirica. But she still pottered around and was a very good roommate to both people and dogs.
Eventually we had to let her go as it became too much for her, and we miss her a lot.

🌈 Tasilo 🌈

Sad news again this week, as Mirica and the shelter team lost another friend.

Tasilo passed away after a sudden illness, he was 17 years old. Tasilo was one of the oldest shelter dogs, so was with Mirica the longest. He lived inside with the senior crew and was a very shy dog, he didn't want to be too near or be petted, but he was an important member of the family.

We are very happy to have good news again.
Last week Penny and Milli were both adopted and went to their forever homes.

🐾 Why Our Cats Aren't All Ready to Travel?  🏡 🐈‍⬛️

While all our cats are sterilized and available for adoption within Serbia, embarking on a journey beyond our borders is a different tale altogether. To travel to the EU and other regions, regulations demand rabies vaccinations and titer tests—an arduous process that requires significant resources, time, and funds.

Unfortunately for some of our beloved cats, particularly those with health conditions like renal issues, receiving the rabies vaccine is not just difficult—it's impossible.

In the spotlight are Čičak, who will be ready to travel in June. Šildi, Daniela, Ciki, Boss, and Mala are all sweet cats waiting for the day when they, too, can embark on the next chapter of their lives.

The girl is looking for a home! A young six-month-old dog named Twixy, a Hungarian Vizsla mix, was found in a bag at the border with Bosnia and rescued.
All vaccinations have been completed, the dog is healthy but not yet sterilised.
Weight about 10 kg, so unlikely to grow past 20kg. Very playful, active, always happy and cheerful, friendly to people. She just started going outside to the toilet after my vaccination, but is still learning the system. The color is red, the eyes are amber, the nose is brown. She really needs a family!

🌈 Flekica 🌈
Some sad news from the shelter this week, we have lost our Flekica at the grand age of 17.
Flekica was one of our inside seniors - loved by most and feared by some. He was very much a favourite among volunteers, extremely cuddly and affectionate, however he was very clear about people he didn't welcome... fearsome even. We all loved his uniqueness.

Dear friends,
We are looking for help urgently for our Theo.
Theo went to a home just recently, in Berlin, but after a lot of effort his guardians have decided it's not the right home for him. We need to rehome him and we really don't want to see him return to our shelter and wait for his fate.
Theo has always been lovely with people in the shelter and was originally in a home, and also was great inside when he moved to his home. However, we think the inner city environment is too much for him as he is reacting and stressing when outside - which makes apartment living almost impossible.
So we are looking for a home, preferably with experience and definitely with a garden. Suburbs or countryside would be ideal. We think he needs a longer time to settle in without the need to go out in the street until he's ready.
Theo is 2 years old, 46cm tall and has be unproblematic with other dogs and cats. He also has been great with children.
If you can help us to share Theo so he can avoid returning to Serbia, we would really appreciate it!

Great news over the last week! Three of our beautiful dogs have left the shelter and gone to homes. Freya, Theo and Cheeki were waiting a long time and are all so delighted to be out of the shelter and starting amazing new lives.
Thank you to their adopters, fostered and all our shelter helpers who got the dogs ready and kept their spirits up over the years, and for adoption helpers for securing the homes and helping with arrangements.

As 2023 comes to a close, we prepared a small video of our major events and achievements. It's not easy to fit everything in 2 minutes! But it's nice to reflect and see how much happens in a year. This year will always be for us monumental because we tragically lost Mica. This left a hole in our hearts and in our shelter.
And for the animals, so much happened. It seems like so long ago we were battling to find homes for some dogs who we really struggled to cater for - Luna, Tiki, Sava, Billy and more. But we did it this year with your help. We also homed 2 of our 6 shar peis, and they are doing so well! This year Wanda had us chasing her through the mountains in Austria for days, now she is very settled and happy in her home.
And a few more of our dogs will have some good news to share very soon...
Finally, we want to thank so much everyone who helped along the way. Our little community is what gets us through.

Maza will leave in January for her forever home.
