One of the biggest things we hear from pet parents is they do not travel or leave home because they are scared to leave their dog. Whether it’s because of separation anxiety, or because they don’t trust anyone, we’ve heard it all, and have worked with plenty of anxious pet parents who say we’ve changed their lives. It’s good so spend time away for your dog, both for yourself and your pup. It’s a beautiful thing seeing them bond with their caretaker when you’re gone, and I promise you, my (Alexis, the CEO) whole heart is in our care. Addendum: no service job is unskilled if it’s done well!

All these reasons is why I would STILL choose a pet sitting business over someone I know well for pet care when I’m out of the house, especially while traveling. I did pet sitting for years without a business backing, and I’m very lucky nothing serious happened, but there were also instances where I could’ve covered the costs of something if I had coverage (hello, circa 2014 when a mastiff puppy tore up a beanbag and feather pillows in the 15 minutes it took for me to go to the grocery store).

Tell me, what’s stopping you from using a business with insurance??

Do you want to know the number one reason Phoenix pet parents choose us for their pet care? Bad pet sitting experiences from friends, family, and Rover.

Sure, you can get lucky and have a trustworthy acquaintance who cares for your pets like you would. But the amount of times I’ve heard from people who say they didn’t hear from their pet sitter, they weren’t there for 24 hours, they came home to a messy house and an obvious mismanagement of pet food and routine…oh boy, it’s scary.

I don’t like to use scare-tactics to promote our services, and I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t think I am; these are just true stories we hear all the time. Or even when they have trustworthy care, something happens medically or a dog chews through a couch, and the pet parent has to pay for it. When you hire us, know you’re hiring someone whose livelihood is taking care of pets first and foremost. I couldn’t live with myself if we didn’t put them first and have protocols in place to prove we are taking care of them the way you would. And know that if something DOES happen on our watch, we have insurance to cover it. That alone is worth the little bit of extra money you may spend on a professional pet sitter.

Wonder what’s included in our new Dog Training service?

When .with.emma.at.h.h and I first started working on how we would differentiate ourselves from other training services, providing easy and supportive tools was the most important to us! Over the years, I’ve done pet sitting for plenty of dogs who had a trainer/were in training, and oftentimes the client received just a 3-page packet with LOTS of instructions, big paragraphs that made it hard to digest and seemed overwhelming, and didn’t have any positive encouragement for them as pet parents. When you go through dog training with your dog, YOU are getting trained, too. In Emma’s and my opinion, your trainer should be just as palatable and positive with you as they are your dog.

So, along with .with.emma.at.h.h personal experience and 7 weekly 1 hour sessions with her directly, we provide our dog training clients with a mini binder that includes: a sign for your door that alerts anyone entering to please be patient and listen to directions (we know how hard it is to tell friends and family to follow everything you’ve been teaching your dog), sections for the consultation and every week of training with encouragements each week, pages for your personal training dictionary (perfect for choosing words and sticking with them, and for others to mimic the same), cues that Emma will be learning, weekly customizable homework sheets Emma puts together herself, and pages for notes! We are also in the process of adding a password-protected page for our dog training clients with videos of Emma demonstrating the technique she wants you to work on with your dog in case you forget exactly how she told you in the session!!

🥁drumroll!🥁 introducing the newest addition to the Hand and Hound HQ…..Darcy!

That’s right, folks, those who have known me for years know I’ve only had cats in my adult life (I’ll always be a crazy cat lady). Years caring for other’s dogs and knowing exactly how much work and money goes into having them, I wanted everything to align before I got my first dog.

We got lucky when we stumbled across Darcy on Reddit from a couple who found her roaming Grand Ave. With them, she was cuddly with their cats and good with their other dogs, two big things we needed to be there to adopt. We jumped on it.

Darcy has been with us for about a month, and she is such a sweet girl. BUT we are documenting this journey with her because she is a rescue and has had some issues arise; resource guarding, not liking strangers, barking, lunging after our cats, etc. and even having been in the pet industry for 15 years, it’s overwhelming! Immediately, we began working with our own trainer, Emma (.with.emma.at.h.h), to give Darcy and us the best relationship possible from the get-go. She is making great strides and we are so proud of her!

Everyone say hi to Darcy and this starts a new journey for us as dog parents! Be prepared for all the aesthetic dog products 😂

P.S. yes, she is named after Pride and Prejudice. Any other Austenites out there??
