Today marks 3 years since Russia attacked Ukraine and a new era of war began.

My family is from Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, and we have endured the Russian invasion of Ukraine since early 2014.

I mourn deeply for all my relatives, friends, colleagues, neighbours, and pets, who have been killed by Russia over these tragic years.

The war taught me that there is no tomorrow, only today, and that the people and animals in our lives are the most precious.

Fox mating season is here! 🌟

During January to early February, foxes are in their mating season, and their scents are incredibly enticing to dogs. 🦊🐕 This means your fur baby might be more likely to get distracted while outdoors and wander off.

To keep your dog safe use a lead or long line, especially during dusk and evening walks.

Remember, foxes only mate once a year, so let’s give them their space while keeping our pups safe. ❤️

Stay responsible and enjoy your walks! 🤗

Rest in Peace, Karen Pryor 🙏

Karen Pryor was an extraordinary American author who revolutionized the way we understand and communicate with animals. A pioneer in behavioural psychology and marine mammal biology, Karen was the founder and passionate advocate of clicker training.

Her groundbreaking work and books laid the foundation for modern, science-based dog training methods and inspired countless trainers around the world, myself included.

Karen, your contributions to the dog training industry will never be forgotten. You’ve left an incredible legacy, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Rest in peace, and thank you for everything you’ve done for us and for the animals we love. 🐾💔

Not every dog is a social butterfly – and that’s okay! 🐶🐾

Did you know that most dogs are "dog selective" to some degree? This means they may:
✨ Dislike overly boisterous puppies
✨ Prefer gentle, relaxed playmates
✨ Have just a few specific dog friends in the park or neighbourhood

This is completely normal! Just like us, dogs have preferences about who they feel comfortable around.

Remember that your dog is not obligated to be friends with every other dog and play with them. Respecting your dog's boundaries and preferences helps them feel safe and secure. Focus on finding quality over quantity when it comes to their social interactions. A few good friends are better than forcing friendships that make your dog uncomfortable. 💕🐕

Comment if your dog loves making friends or prefers to enjoy peaceful solo walks! 🐾💕

Keep your dog cozy ❄️🐾

Irish weather is giving us all the chills these days with temperatures dipping below 5°C! 🥶 When the weather is like this, keep your dog’s walks short and sweet.

✨ Dress for the weather:
If your dog is a small breed, a puppy, short-haired, underweight, or feeling sick/weak, pop on a doggy jumper or coat to keep them warm.

✨ Stay entertained indoors:
Engage their minds with fun indoor games or brainwork activities. A little mental stimulation goes a long way!

✨ Playdate fun:
Invite your dog's friend for a playdate. They’ll love the social time without freezing paws.

Let’s keep our furry friends happy, warm, and safe! 💕🐶

💌 Drop me a message if you’d like an example of a fun game to try with your dog!

Building holiday bonds🎄

The holiday season is the perfect time to strengthen the bond with your dog. Whether it’s through festive walks, quiet moments by the fire, or practicing a fun new skill, every moment counts! ❤️

✨ Pro tip: use this time to reinforce basic cues like “stay” or "find it" in a relaxed environment - it’s a great way to combine bonding with training!

💬 Please share what you have been up to with your dog in the comments, let's learn from each other! 🐾

New Year’s resolutions are often about tension and big changes, but I prefer to do things little by little every day. It doesn't matter what the date on the calendar is - the best time to start is now! Dog training is no different. Whether it's improving leash walking, mastering recall, or building better social skills, start today and dedicate just 15-20 minutes to self-education and practice each day. In a few months, you’ll be amazed at the progress. Small, consistent steps lead to big results 🎉💯
