One year was enough. Now I’ll never know another day without you, Nugget 🐾

I truly cannot fathom how it’s already been a year since I last held my boy. Looked into his eyes. Rubbed his ears. Kissed his head.
I’ve written and rewritten this caption half a dozen times. Which story do I tell?
Do I relive that day?
Do I try to summarize his life in so many words?
Do I share how looking back now, I realize he was in worse condition than I let myself accept at the time?
Do I take the spiritual route and drone on about why I really do believe he was my soul dog and share all the signs I think he’s sent me this past year?
I could easily write a novel.
Instead I’d like to share some simple words of wisdom to fellow dog parents. The things that make me not regret a single moment of my 9 years as his mama:
1. ALWAYS throw the ball one more time
2. Do YOUR best. It’s enough.
3. Shamelessly spoil them. It’s what they’re here for.
Give your pup a cookie and a smooch in memory of Nugget today (my little angels have been getting plenty of both).

10 years ago today I brought my little Nugget home. I was fresh out of college, jobless, still living at home, oh and I didn’t tell my family. 😅

Bloomin’ with the besties 🌸
One of my all-time favorite pictures of Nugget has always been the one in the last slide — doing some major cheesin’ in front of a backdrop of cherry blossoms.
When I received his ashes, I was surprised to find that his urn had cherry blossoms carved into it, and of course I immediately thought of this picture. I took it as a sign, and now think about my Bubs every time I see cherry blossoms.
I just recently discovered a new park that’s become my favorite quiet spot to walk to pups to. And naturally, when the park trees were finally bloomed the other day, a photoshoot ensued.
And for the first time they were actually cooperative models ☺️

The most perfect first Corgmas a couple pups could ever dream of 🎁🎄🥹
And of course there was bitter sweetness in another “first” as well. Our first without Nugget.
So we extra-stuffed the stockings. Gave out too many cookies. Made messes of all the new toys. Wore matching pajamas…
And had so much fun that we ALL slept for 13 hours 😅
Because nothing brings me more joy than smothering my babies with love every chance I get.
We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas overflowing with love! ♥️✨

One year of Strudel 🥹Nug was a tough act to follow, but boy did he come barreling into our life and hearts in the most special way. He’s always up for a snuggle sesh. Not once has he snarled his teeth. And everyone and everything is an instant friend. A pyscho who climbs and yaps like a demanding monkey? Yes. But also our actual angel who has made life so much fuller.Happy 1st Gotcha Day, Strudey Doo! 🐾
I always knew rescue was important. I’d see all the cliche hashtags… #AdoptDontShop #RescuedIsMyFavoriteBreed #WhoRescuedWhoBut Pumpkin opened my eyes to a spectacularly special kind of love that only a rescue can. NOTHING could have prepared me for the immense love and pride and protective instinct I have for our girl. Or how drastically her physical appearance changed. Or how much she came out of her shell in a matter of months just because we showed her nothing but the love and patience she’d been missing out on her whole life. Or how often I have to suppress the anger that bubbles up when I start to wonder about her life before us, and who would let our sweet baby fall into this condition. While we don’t know EXACTLY where she came from, we can assume enough based on what we do know. Severely neglected breeding mama. Take your best guess. But I digress…I just didn’t want to let #NationalRescueDogDay pass without showing off our lil mama. And urge anyone who’s able to open their home and hearts to a rescue of their own. It’s the most special and rewarding adventure I’ve ever experienced. And I now know that I was seriously missing out before.
I’M POSITIVELY BEAMING WITH PRIDE! Watching Pumpkin overcome her anxieties, actually pick up on training, and learn to be a real dog has been THE most rewarding experience. We’re just shy of 3 months with her, and she still surprises me every single dang day. I’ll admit we haven’t really been trying to take her for walks. The first time we tried (just to gauge how she would behave) she was TERRIFIED and wouldn’t move. There wasn’t really a second time… I carried her around the block once as my version of exposure therapy. On a whim today, I tried again. I’ve really felt like we’ve been bonding more the past couple of weeks. That, paired with Strudel now being good with walking, seems to have been the secret sauce. It wasn’t long, and it definitely wasn’t perfect (although it may look that way in this video), but our girl was walking. Outside. On a leash. 🤯🥹😭I just HAD to memorialize this moment permanently on the feed, and of course share with all the Pumpkin stans. I am one stinkin’ proud mama 🙌
