How to give subcutaneous injection
.
Your vet may have given you the option to do subcutaneous (under the skin) injection at home. This option is usually given if regular long term treatment is necessary. If you need a reminder on how to do it, here’s the video for you 😺
.
*Disclaimer* Please DO NOT do this at home unless you’re instructed by your vet to do so!

Giving fluids subcutaneously, or under the skin is a procedure to hydrate pets without intravenous access. It is commonly done for pets with chronic kidney disease (amongst other things). For some, it has to be performed regularly.
.
However visiting the clinic so often can become stressful to pet and owner, and with greater restrictions now with going out, it is worth knowing how to do this at home yourself if needed!
.
We shared this in 2017 and now would be a good time to reshare :)

Young kittens may not be able to urinate and defaecate on their own. They’ll eventually learn to do so on their own at about 5 weeks of age. If under stimulated, they may get constipated. The kittens came to us constipated and we had to administer enema to them. We were so glad to see 💩 in the litter box today! We respect queens (mother cats) so much— it’s not easy to deal with so many of them!

Milestone reached! Kittens we are fostering have started eating solid food, so we will start to wean them off milk. As you can see they are learning to differentiate between food and fingers ☝️💥

It may seem strange but now may be the time for you to adopt a pet if you’ve been holding it off for a while. You’ll be home more. Animals are fantastic company and hanging out with them is therapeutic. By adopting, you’ll be reducing the work load of shelters—Shelters may be facing labour shortage due to the current situation.

If you’re keen, please check out the websites of our local animal shelters! @catwelfaresociety @spcasingapore @vfasin @sosdsingapore @asdsingapore @mcds_adoptions @hamstersociety.sg @houserabbitsocietysingapore @bunnywonderlandsg

P.S. Bernie, Ernie and Ruthie will be up for adoption too!
Tough one I agree. We are blessed to have Tony🙏🏽 @tony_n_tako
.
Here are a few tips. Remember not to be stingy with tasty treats! Some cats may prefer human food, such as cream cheese or meat pâté. Find your cat’s favourite food and use that next time when there’s a need to feed them medications. The last option would be to give it at the back of throat by hand or with a pill popper. However, it’ll be a less pleasant experience, especially if you have to do it daily.
.
Tony went back to bed after this. Acting is tiring😹
