From Racehorses to Show Horses We take horses off the racetrack and retrain them to be good riding horses in a second career as show horses.

Join us on this journey with each of them, and on the road to taking some of them to the Thoroughbred Makeover!

Locust Hill 8/25/24-lots of progress!

Grace was the surprise with a Champion! Fairy was consistent as always and came home with a Reserve Champion 😁

Starting to really look like show horses! ❤️

I love seeing horses evolve even just in their bodies. Both of these mares were scrawny and tight off the track and just babies at 3yr olds.

Grace is a little older than Fairy and turned 4 in February. She’s not very tall at 15.3H but is making up for it in her girth size! Some might call her a bit chunky but I think she’s looking amazing as she broadens and fills out. She absolutely loves to eat!

Fairy just turned 4 in June and is significantly bigger with more bone mass and height at 16.1h. She’s taken longer than Grace to fill out but I still think she’s growing. But I think she’s finally starting to look beautiful as she’s developing her topline and filling out.

Pictures of both the day they first arrived and today.

Fairy and Grace completed their 5th show at Locust Hill and continue to grow and learn. The jumps were beautifully decorated and neither horse got to school ahead of showing in the show ring.

Grace was overwhelmed at first but finally focused and got down to business. She continued to get quieter and more consistent as she figured things out and relaxed. She earned her first blue in her last jumping class! She also hacked much better than the last show. I think she’s carried a lot of bad memories from the track but she’s slowly letting go of them. The judge complimented how well she jumped. 😁

Fairy marched in ready to compete and cantered around like she’d been doing this forever. She even got all of her lead changes! We decided to move her up to 3’ to help her with her jump and rhythm and she was fantastic! She’s a big young horse to put her body together, but she tries so hard to do what she’s supposed to. She was reserve champion in both of her divisions.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is just the beginning, and am proud of how far they’ve come in such a short time! They are going to be exceptional ❤️

Grace and Fairy showed at Deep Run yesterday. They didn’t have much time to school in the rings and Fairy was quite full of herself! So I decided to move her over to the jumper ring and make her think a little more. She did great over a little bigger jump with constant turns to think about. Grace is becoming more consistent and even came home with her first reserve champion in the TB Hunters!

Fairy loves these girls and they just adore her too! ❤️❤️She’s incredibly quiet and easy to ride.

Grace and Fairy went to the beautiful VA Horse Center and did their first overnight for their third show! There was a ton of great learning that happened and I think they’ve come back a little more confident in themselves.

Grace had some flashbacks to her time at the track and didn’t love being in a stall she couldn’t see her friend from. But she tried very hard when out in the ring, loved watching all the horses work, and finally figured out how to get down the lines and breathe at the same time! She is going to be very cool.

To top it off, the great Olin Armstrong parked next to me in the under saddle class and complimented her on how well she jumped. Wow, to have him notice her was huge and felt so good. The rounds were far from perfect, but better each time. 😁 He thought she was a fantastic jumper.

Fairy walked out and about with exceptional maturity and presence and handled the chaos with impressive calmness. She did everything I asked, and was rhythmic and even throughout. She also handled the schooling rings well even though last show she was overwhelmed. Everyone admired her personality and ever so sweet disposition. She showed later in the day and it was hot, and I think she was super tired. She forgot how to do her changes but did everything else and clearly stood out to the judge. Out of a HUGE thoroughbred class, she earned a 6th place under saddle! She is such a special horse that will go and do it all one day. She’s so much fun to ride!

Both mares jumped all the jumps that were the most formidable and decorated we’ve seen so far, learned how to do an in and out when we schooling the jumper ring, and tried to figure out all that I asked.

I’m so proud of both of them. ❤️❤️

Fairy showing at Four Oaks Farm June 15. She’s already figuring out this job and moving straighter in between fences and becoming more relaxed. However, she wasn’t sure of the shadows from the light poles and sometimes thought they were jumps too along the rail😆.

Grace June 15 at Four Oaks Farm. She started to breathe a little during the rounds and lengthen her stride out! Still a ways to go but she’s so smart and willing. This was also her first time jumping 2’6”.

Fairy’s first show on June 9 at Brookhill Farm and her first time jumping 2’6”. I don’t think she even noticed the height change.
